No I totally get that. It's like having faith that God will not abandon us, but at the same time having that constant doubt is more comfortable. Since that is what we tend to have...

So many use the parable of the prodigal son to establish their relationship to God!
Yes he was still a son but HE CHOSE TO squander his inheritance. Had he died while in the pig pen,his father would have had no knowledge of Him.
The son who was away had to realise he was in with the pigs !
He therefore humbled himself and desired to only be a servant in His father's house .
We have to examine ourselves daily to ascertain if we are continuing in the Fathers will, not just assume we are bc of the fact Jesus purchased Salvation or the price for mankind to be redeemed to God!
Jesus said" It is finished"( SALVATIONS PRICE)
We however are not finished.......

I don't think doubt and fear is a good thing. Neither is being falsely assured.
I think as scripture say we should test ourselves to see if we are in the faith, but I think this is not a matter of whether you have lost your salvation or not but more of are you acting in accordance to what you say you believe, and do you believe what the scriptures say is the truth, or has some other type of believing crept in. A kind of self examination to keep yourself from straying if you will. Often times I have to check my world view because lines of thinking found its way into my belief system, and I had to re-evaluate those ideas. I had to bring them into submission to the Gospel and even renounce certain ideas. I had to repent (often).
The Arch principals that govern my life are spelled out by the Bible. Many times I have to remind myself.
So be secure, be believing.

This thread has stopped me in my tracks. So thought provoking. I would like to answer all of you well, but that may not eventuate.
I need to reconsider.
Still there is a good chance I will bounce back and resume my manic posting.
Thanks for your respectful replies. I probably dont deserve that.

Remain on your toes MFR, don't mistake the offer or promise, for the conclusion. Where your convictions stand on your death bed, is where the conclusion lies, Whisper quoted only the offer. God has promised eternal salvation to those who repent and bow down to Christ Jesus as Lord & Saviour, i.e. forgiveness is conditional. If forgiveness is contingent upon one, first, hearing the Word, then understanding what was preached (depending on the evangel who explained the good news), and then accepting the Gospel of Christ, then one's procurement of their salvation is only as solidified as far as their understanding and convictions go. 'some seeds fell by the shallow ground, took root for a moment (accepted it at the time), then fell away'. Can one say 'yes' to Christ today, then tomorrow deny him and remain saved, ...how does that work?
This is why we never let our guard down, we study often to resist falling away, which the devil will not relent.
Don't mistake the promise for the status, God promises to protect you and to not let you be stolen from his hands, but that just means that he's on our side working for us, it does not mean that we can sleight or defy him and that he won't let us go. It means if we try, he will protect us, and that we can rely on him in times of our trouble, persecution and doubt, ...but not our rejection, regardless of where we stood in the past.
It is a true shame that there are churches out there that teach people hungry for the word of God, fallacies. Particularly that Jesus didn't really mean it when He taught in all His sermons that we are saved. That Salvation is an irrevocable gift of God. That no one shall take us from His, Jesus, hand.

Salvation is Forever!

After we are born again, we never become unborn. When we commit a sin we lose our fellowship with god until we repent, because God will not fellowship with sin, but we never lose the security of our eternal inheritance. Christ paid for every sin that we will commit.
For those who seek Christ here, to learn of the Gospel, for new Christians, please take note. The bold in the above quote is not true!
Your repentance and redemption in Christ eradicated that barrier, separation, between you and God. You were reborn, made new, a new creation in Christ. Nothing, nothing, can separate you again.
Jesus was the propitiation, He atoned for the sins of the whole world on the cross. You do not ever lose fellowship with God. Not ever!
Sadly, FGC follows the doctrines of the Primitive Baptist church and they adhere to the TULIP formula.

Primitive Baptist, member of any of the conservative, independent Baptist church congregations in the United States that oppose centralized administrative associations and organized mission societies.

thanks DB7. this was a great post I think among many on here. packed with meaning. I had to read it 3 times. Even then...……..
But I have to look up the meaning of "convictions" as I am quite weak on Biblical vocabulary. I often think about my deathbed. its a good meditation. because we have absolutely no more time to waste. Will I have a pure loving heart? Will Jesus live fully in me? By the grace of God, I hope so on my deathbed and of course before then would be better.

Yes MFR, time is of the essence and there are no second chances (The Rich man & Lazarus). Your aspirations are great, but if I may, don't be too harsh on yourself or strive prematurely for perfection, for don't forget, even the Apostle Paul had not attained perfection by the time he wrote many of his epistles (if at all, ...does anyone?).

Philippians 3:10-14
3:10. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11. and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. 12. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

And yes, I agree, the deathbed is worthy of constant meditation, for that is the goal of our journey, i.e. what God's verdict of us will be upon death.

Ecclesiastes 7:2-4
7:2. It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart. 3. Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart. 4. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.

Thank you for the kind words MFR, good luck to both of us persevering till the end, and growing in wisdom & knowledge along the way...!

So many "belivers/seekers" are like this:
Matthew 13
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Whilst either forgetting, or willfully neglecting to do this within themselves:
Matthew 18
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

Philippians 2
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Isaiah 28
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

Isaiah 28
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (see Matt.18 above)

In this way? One shall "gain the eyesight" of seeing people like this:

Isaiah 28
20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in

Or? The failing of Matt.18, and Phillipians 2 (above)

1 John 4
Beloved, believe not every spirit
, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

1 Corinthians 6
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

How do you "judge" these spirits/angels that are not of God?

GUILTY!

This lets God's Holy Spirit know where you are at.
But, more so, let's you know where you are at.
God already knows where you are.
Jez wants you to know too!
