Lanolin,
You could be looking at a very real possibility. Have you ever read the book, THE APOCALYPSE OF ABRAHAM ? It speaks a lot of the attitude and mindset of Abram.

Most certainly.

It's not that I thought you were in egregious error, it's just that I wasn't sure why you were saying that I was telling people not to be "cutesy" in their profiles (I might have missed it but I didn't see a post of mine in which I said this to anyone, and at the time, didn't feel it was a big enough deal to make a fuss at you about.) I was also discouraged that you said a man might see my profile message as a possible sexual invitation.

To be honest, it made sad to wonder what a man was exposed to (and what conversations he'd had that DID go that way for him to think that) in order to interpret my words in that way. I guess I'm strange in that I had a whole different interpretation in my head when I wrote it.

And it made me wonder how many other times you might try to say that something I write is sexually suggestive?

But that's your opinion (and for anyone trying to jump to read my profile, I erased it due to Ghoti's feedback but openly posted what it had said in my post) and you certainly have a right to it. I'm not sure how to "neuter" some of the things I say because if I try, it will lose the meaning of what I'm trying to express.

I think I included the conversation here, but I may have missed a few posts. At any rate, it's in the Guy's Hairstyles thread in Singles.
The really important thing to keep in mind is that other people can't read our minds..... we have to put things down in writing, and clearly and fully enough to be understood, for them to know what we are trying to say.

You do have me thinking about this.

People, including myself, interpret what others say through the lens of their own experiences and what they gravitate towards.

This is why I sometimes leave some ambiguity in the way I word things.

The way in which they respond offers several clues as to what the person has been through and what they are attracted to because of it.

That which I just BOLDED in your quote is something we were strongly warned about in both school and in training. We were constantly reminded to keep in mind that a sentence such as you just wrote, really needed one more word to be truly accurate:
"The way in which they respond May offer several clues as to what the person has been through and what they are attracted to because of it."

It is far too easy for us to project our own presumptions and perceptions into their answers when attempting to analyze other people's responses and reactions. Gleaning accurate revelation requires that we compile a substantial (lengthy) background of similar statements, comments, reactions, body language, and even things they DON'T say or do.

You must be very smart, I’d never have thought of that.

I thought of relieving teachers what a hard job they might have when children dont listen to them, as they have less of a relationship with children than their regular teacher. thats why they need to have a connection, like visiting preachers.

i think its rude when people dont listen to someone God has appointed like the prophets. they were not listened to. they werent even the most eloquent of people. moses had to have aaron as his spokesperson.

many people dismissed Jesus because he came from Nazareth. they would say can anything good come out of Nazareth?
I dont think it was that he had a funny accent or anything. Jesus would say if people dont receive you to shake the dust off your feet and move on. he wouldnt stay and try to convince people with arguing if they werent listening to him.

There's a big difference between not listening to God's appointed messenger, and not listening to a regular person.

Right. I will keep in mind in the future that conversations with Kim can be deliberately tricky... Wait, I already knew that.

Ok, now I'm too curious not to ask.

Why, exactly, should she somehow change her beliefs or what she posts in order to cater to what you would choose to read?

I can't help but ask because I know you've nitpicked several of my threads as well, even tossing in that I was supposedly one of the few people on the site you like.

Thanks, I'm flattered, but what is it about you that makes you establish yourself as someone who is apparently so important and so valuable that it's somehow of utmost importance that you should like someone and want to read what they write? And if not, then they should automatically want to change to your liking? What makes you above most others? Especially within a relatively short time within the community... Though I'm fairly sure you're an old-timer.

I was just wondering why you feel that people should change themselves in order to meet your apparent standards? What makes them better?

I've had tons of people tell me they don't like me, what I say, or how I say it over the years... Lol. But any change that's taken place was just in a normal way in which people change over the years, not to mold myself to be more appealing to someone on an anonymous website.

Why would you expect other people to do this for you?

I honestly and truly would like to know.
Wow! Good for you...

Every time I see this thread I think of a Ginny Owens song...

This is your life, and yet somehow
They decide what you're about
You learn your lines and take your cues
But who are you listening to?

You change your clothes and how you speak
You place your hope in what they think
Before you know, there's no more you
Who are you listening to

Have you noticed how much you fear
All the voices you choose to hear?

Who are you listening to?
Who tells you what to do?
Who rules your thoughts at night?
Whose rules define your life?
Oh, you know it's up to you
So, who are you listening to?
Cool...

Its funny God gave Moses the ten commandments to give to the Israelites, wrote them on stone tablets, surely they were all listening when they were given out, but actually as soon as Moses was out of earshot they broke them. So maybe it was just in one ear and out the other.

someone could give the appearance of listening, look like they are paying attention but it could be they are hearing but not listening. You wonder how much really sinks in the first time.

I did hear of people praying that ears would open so the word can enter. I was friends with a deaf neighbour and had to write down everything, we communicated by letter, but even so half the time I realised he wasnt really reading or listening to what I was writing. This was rsther frustrating because I would say or write something I felt was really important and then he would reply going on about somethig completely different.

I think that happens a lot with people but then not only was he deaf, but he said he had autism too. Although I think its quite common amongst people nowadays to have autism, adhd or some other learning difficulty meaning they just cant process things or its much harder. I dont know why this is, but you just cant assume people will be as quick to catch on as you would like. and Im not really the intellectual type even though I do read a lot. I try to keep things simple and basic.

Well that's what Facebook is for. To reach out, find a LOT of friends... then prune the collection down until you are left with only the friends who are exactly like you.

are you talking about moses?
well, most of them were just thinking of their bellies and not really into the whole God thing. God might have saved them, but many of them missed Egypt.

I do notice though people are grumpy when they havent eaten.
Im sure not going to listen to someone if its past lunchtime and I havent eaten and they are droning on and on about stuff. This once happened with a few friends (yeas they are still my friends, well, we not that close though) when they wanted to sit and chat for hours and totally forgot that I hadnt eaten and was hungry and it was lunchtime, and they werent offering any food so I had to say Im going.

Its why Jesus fed five thousand people, they were not going to listen to him if they were starving.
