But it takes a digital "fingerprint" of the pixels of every picture so just changing the tags or url won't fool it. This is what I don't like about it.

Then you'd end up with two photos with different pixel reports. Which one you gonna believe?
You'd have to change the actual photo to change the pixels and you have no idea which pixels the software ID'ed. It could be pixels 1,253,208 thru 2,435,623 on a 8MB photo, with each pixel's color and xy coordinates cataloged into their system. Its basically a partial copy of the photo itself, like the digital code for part of a song.

Let's say a real person named Joe Smith uploads his real picture. That site finds it and stores it in their system.
Let's say a real person named Ben Jones sees Joe Smith's picture somewhere, and uploads it with a fake name.
That site finds the picture Ben uploaded and stores it in their system.
Let's say another person, Alice Hopps comes across Ben Jones online. Ben sends her the fake picture of Joe. Alice runs it through the site and two pictures come up.
How does she know which one is the real one if the site pulls up two of the same?

I just watched the video on the site.
All it says it does is, scan the image you upload, then it pulls up links to places on the web that photo appears. Well if that photo appears in more than one or two places, how do you know which is the real one?
Someone knowing this could simply upload a fake picture to multiple places on the web and wah lah. Tineye is rendered ineffective by the nefarious person, because the user searching tineye won't know which of the multiple photos is real

Or what if a real person uploads their real photo to different websites. Someone searching tineye, might see the multiple results and conclude it's a fake person, when in reality it's a real person who just uploaded the same picture to multiple sites.

I dunno why anyone would upload a fake picture. Anyone want to clarify why a person would upload a fake picture? I mean lets say you put a fake picture on your profile what would that accomplish? If you meet someone off a website face to face how could they explain the sudden change in appearance? I just don't see the upside or reasoning behind doing it.

I have to admit that I'm liking the Criminal Minds aspect of this, stilly. I've used governmental facial recognition databases, but never one that's available to the public.
Though...it does leave me with a question... If someone runs a photo of someone through TinEye, does it then become part of TinEye's database? If so, I don't think I like the idea of that anymore than I liked the idea of the online photoshop program wanting to make my personal family pics public. I would hate it if I made someone more vulnerable online that we already are by doing that.
I run bad guys all the time, but endangering innocents is something else..

The thing this doesn't protect against is the person who uploads a pic of themselves from their "good-looking years" even though they don't look like that anymore.
