Or a nefarious enough person could upload any picture, tag it as someone else not even related to the picture, making said results false. I could upload a picture of Bieber, tag it as being Steven Tyler and yeah. I know this example is so outrageous that it would be noticed by all, but for the lesser known peeps, well it wouldn't be.
But it takes a digital "fingerprint" of the pixels of every picture so just changing the tags or url won't fool it. This is what I don't like about it.

But someone knowing this could still label or whatever as something it's not.

Then you'd end up with two photos with different pixel reports. Which one you gonna believe?

You'd have to change the actual photo to change the pixels and you have no idea which pixels the software ID'ed. It could be pixels 1,253,208 thru 2,435,623 on a 8MB photo, with each pixel's color and xy coordinates cataloged into their system. Its basically a partial copy of the photo itself, like the digital code for part of a song.

Ok...

Let's say a real person named Joe Smith uploads his real picture. That site finds it and stores it in their system.

Let's say a real person named Ben Jones sees Joe Smith's picture somewhere, and uploads it with a fake name.
That site finds the picture Ben uploaded and stores it in their system.

Let's say another person, Alice Hopps comes across Ben Jones online. Ben sends her the fake picture of Joe. Alice runs it through the site and two pictures come up.

How does she know which one is the real one if the site pulls up two of the same?

I just watched the video on the site.

All it says it does is, scan the image you upload, then it pulls up links to places on the web that photo appears. Well if that photo appears in more than one or two places, how do you know which is the real one?

Someone knowing this could simply upload a fake picture to multiple places on the web and wah lah. Tineye is rendered ineffective by the nefarious person, because the user searching tineye won't know which of the multiple photos is real

Or what if a real person uploads their real photo to different websites. Someone searching tineye, might see the multiple results and conclude it's a fake person, when in reality it's a real person who just uploaded the same picture to multiple sites.

I dunno why anyone would upload a fake picture. Anyone want to clarify why a person would upload a fake picture? I mean lets say you put a fake picture on your profile what would that accomplish? If you meet someone off a website face to face how could they explain the sudden change in appearance? I just don't see the upside or reasoning behind doing it.

The problem is, you're not thinking like a crazy person.

I have to admit that I'm liking the Criminal Minds aspect of this, stilly. :) I've used governmental facial recognition databases, but never one that's available to the public.

Though...it does leave me with a question... If someone runs a photo of someone through TinEye, does it then become part of TinEye's database? If so, I don't think I like the idea of that anymore than I liked the idea of the online photoshop program wanting to make my personal family pics public. I would hate it if I made someone more vulnerable online that we already are by doing that. :( I run bad guys all the time, but endangering innocents is something else..

Ryon, I agree with you. If your intention for being here is to make christian friends, it's pretty silly to do that. But, stilly's an admin and I would imagine he's seen a lot of people taken advantage of online by such things even on a christian site. Not all who claim to be christians truly are....

Re: Think Someone's a Fake on CC? TinEye Them! I did. I did.

I did it ! I did find a couple falsey avatar folk on here. I did ! I did ! The accused are below:

Now, I see your avatar image there in this thread, Still~watered, an image I admit I was mighty suspicious of stolen avatar identity from the moment I saw it. So, being fair to others, I wanted to ALERT them of potential slipperiness of id crime by you, so to speak. I mean, iD theft, man almighty, that is a Capital One offense !! LOL . Anyway, being serious here and the green watchdog kind of God guy I am, I just wanted folks to know the truth, IF it was out there, regarding this 'identity' subject. I honestly JUST didn't think you could be that pretty of a guy, Still, that's all. I mean, maybe when you dress all up for Friday night or something, but I still just didn't see it, Still . So I tin-eyed your avatar and found.... WHERE'S MY GREEN GRIN ! :) your not who you say you was. (hey, isn't that a song? Wish you could see me now, yeah, I'm not who I was? )

Anyhoo, so, change your avatar please or at least let us know who you really are, and, OH, Julianna, I tin-eyed you too, for shame, for shame, as, girl, I just thought you to be much prettier than that guy banging the drums. The red is good, the fur is fine, as, for you, it's not a case of cosmetics, a.k.a. prettiness. It is much more like impostership. As, for me, Still~watered just looked like different than that I pictured, but, YOU, you look like that dude from the Muppets don't you think. Are you Animal's twin? Because, if you are, that would clear everything up completely . :)

Anyway, that all said, I tin-eyed you, yes, like Still, and, YIKES!! it was Animal. So, either your using your twin's avatar or you are a total imposter. Which are you?? Yes, I thunk that so.... I thought to myself, hmmm, what did that one guy on christianchat say, name was, Sau, Paul, Pau, Saul !! So, I thought, what to do, what to do, what... and in the middle of all that thinking I looked up Saul's thread and this Saul guy says to do that Tineye.com site on suspected avatar identity theft. WHAM!, I tin-eyed you both's avatars and sure enough, I was RIGHT !!! :)
JUST playing with ya both, ya know, being green, God bless ya both !!!! :)

The thing this doesn't protect against is the person who uploads a pic of themselves from their "good-looking years" even though they don't look like that anymore. :p

One thing this is good for is professional photographers who want to find out who is illegally using their copyrighted pics on the web.

Zero, no prob, if that person you really like is liking your 10-year younger picture, you just go to your favorite plastic surgeon and show them a picture of 'Then.' :)

Aha, Julianna, I see it all so clearly now, and ,to think, all this time that Animal dude is a poser. You think, Juliana, that Animal mayor rally be Zero in red fur clothing.
