Why "The Bible" doesn't fulfil 1 Corinthians 13:10

I ask you to consider and discuss the truth of the following statement:

If the words that ended up in the bible are the "That which is perfect" which was needing to come...and they fulfilled that role the very moment they were spoken or written into existence... then there was ZERO need for some group of men 300 years later to say "Hey, I don't think that what God has provided is good enough. I think we need to create a book so people don't have to ASK God to teach them how to discern truth for themselves. They won't need to go to God. They can just go to our book! They won't need to ask God to lead them. They can rely solely on our book! They won't have to actually hear God and let the Holy Ghost lead them and guide them into all truth...they can just limit the scope of their answers to those things we've allowed into our book! Then the king (not God) that appointed us will be pleased." .

It seems that 1 Corinthians 13:10 is speaking about when Christ returns:

1 Corinthians 4:5 KJV
[5] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

But many people do get corrupted by meddling with mens books and instead of just using the Bible only.

I believe they quench the Spirit when they venture away from the scriptures and remain in a state of spiritual blindness.

Perfect = complete. It means when scripture became complete, it replaced tongues and prophecy which provided only part of the New Covenant truth. Paul says scripture completely equips us.

yes the Bible isn't a book about itself. it's a book about Christ, revealing God to man.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
(1 Corinthians 13:9-12)
this is about Christ. now we know & prophesy in part about Christ
when the completion of His redemptive work of salvation comes about we shall fully know about Christ even as Christ fully knows us. for now we see Christ dimly but then we will see Christ face to face.
the shadows of the law have passed away as the substance which is Christ has come. He is that which is perfect, which is complete.

Yes clearly ""until the LORD come"" points to the second comming of Jesus..

And just a little bit of context would reveal whaty kind of judging Paul was talking about..

(1 Corinthians 4:3-5) "But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. {4} For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. {5} Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God."

He was talking about men judging other men.. Nothing to do with establishing what scriptures would be in the Bible compliation..

Paul says scripture completely equips us.
he says Christ completely equips us

the scripture is all about the Person who completes and equips us. it's not the words themselves, but the One who is saying them, which gives them meaning - it is because they are His words that they are important, not because of the words themselves. just like it is not the stone that the temple was built of or the cloth & hides of the tabernacle, but the One whose presence dwelt in it that makes it holy.

as @Relic was saying in another thread yesterday, a person can memorize all the words of the scripture backwards and forwards, and know nothing, if they do not have the Spirit opening the word up to them. i disagreed with him about the simplification of saying 'all you need is love' -- but without love, knowledge, works, miracles, prophecy, teaching are of no use. without Christ choosing to reveal Himself to a person through the scriptures, the scriptures are only words. they do not complete us; Christ completes us. just as i tried to intimate to him in that thread, Christ is what is necessary - if i do not know Him i do not even know what love is, Who Love is. the Book reveals Him -- yet i need Him to reveal Himself to me in the Book, or the Book is worthless to me: i do not even know what the scripture is saying unless i have Him to teach me.

I don't accept the view that the Bible is "the perfect" (NASB). Paul spent most of three chapters talking about spiritual gifts, to one congregation. If this teaching were only relevant for less than fifty years, I don't think the Holy Spirit would have bothered including it.

I feel that if you think of Jesus as our God, and not our God being God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost you are not thinking of the true God at all, but one your mind creates. They are one.

With this wrong idea you cannot worship God as we are asked to do for these people can only worship a part of God. God the Father becomes that crazy guy who said not to mix fabrics and gave strange orders to people. They don't understand the orders God gave because they are 'bible only" people, and that bible truth is in the NT not the OT. refusing to learn history so they understand what the words used in the OT meant to them at that time helps with their changing the true God to Jesus as the true leading God.

The whole epistle to the Corinthians is one of correction not one of praise. Only three specific gifts were to end so all the rest continue. Tongues were a problem in Corinth and they are a huge problem in the church today.

They're only a problem for people who don't know how to administer them properly, or for people who battle their continued operation.

You're tilting at windmills. Dave didn't say that Jesus alone is God.

IMO it's when we see how this command testifies of Christ that we understand why God gave it, and what is the righteousness of it beyond the letter :)

You are right, it really wasn't Dave I was responding to. I was responding to the many posts putting Jesus ahead of God, leaving the other manifestations of God out. It takes not only knowing God as love but understanding how each element of God work together to achieve completeness.

Do you see how fallacious your thinking is? Who gave the Bible to mankind? And if God gave us the Bible, He meant to have it read, digested, and applied. He also meant to have the Gospel within that book. Without the Bible you would not have a Gospel. And without the Gospel there would be no saving faith, and without faith in Christ there would be no salvation (see Romans 10).

Getting back to 1 Corinthians 13:10, "THAT WHICH IS COMPLETE" can only apply to the Bible, and this ties is with verse 8, which mentions only three spiritual gifts related to divine relation -- prophecy, tongues, and supernatural knowledge. The Bible was completed and closed with the book of Revelation (prophecy) in 95 AD. So there is no further need for the gift of prophecy. And since the other two gifts are related, there is no further need for them either.

Today the gifts for the ministry of the Word are evangelists, pastors, and teachers. The apostles and prophets are already within the Bible.

In most cases those books have been written by people who have relied on the Bible. The answer is to compare what they are saying
to scripture. The Holy Spirit gives us discernment.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

There must be a need for the gift of prophecy since there are still people that think it is the scriptures that will give them eternal life.

The only problem with that is that the apostle John effectively closed off any further prophecies: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (Rev 22:18)

As to the Scriptures, Abraham told the Rich Man who was in Hades, that if his brothers did not give heed to Moses (the written Torah which is Scripture) they would not believe if one rose from the dead.

The Gospel is called the Word of God, and the Gospel is found in the Bible. And the Bible states that faith (saving faith) cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Rom 10:17). The preaching of the Gospel generates faith in Christ, and those who believe on Him receive the gift of eternal life.
