I'll probably cook something but not 7 courses worth. And some of it may come from premade box mixes or seasoning packets.

Let's see I'll probably pick up a loaf of good fresh baked bread at the store as a side for people who like bread (unless we've got severe gluten issues going on with someone), green leafy salad from one of those plastic containers if I'm feeling really fancy, the main is probably something in the greek / italian family ( I do pretty well with a simplified version of mousakka or an alfredo sauce with meat and veggies) and for a desert I could make ahead of time it could be dark chocolate truffles, oreo and cream cheese truffles, or this simplified no bake cheesecake recipe I have. Of course if it's winter time I could do baking instead or a big roast in the crock pot type of deal.

Ok I made me hungry, did I make anyone else hungry?

When I opened this new thread I was a little bit apprehensive that there was going to be another goldfish question. OK, lets see. Oh yeah, gonna call Domino's. Nah, just kidding. OK, I got it now. We are all going out to eat. No, I don't mean Burger King although that crossed my mind. :)

I'm not sure why anyone would want to put you on ignore.

You're on of the funniest, wisest, most common sense people here.
If it werent for you there would be alot less chatter and far less self reflection happening.
Your posts get alot of us thinking. ❤
I fully concur with your estimation. She is most definitely a class act.

. Though pizza is a great option too, in my opinion. 😋
That was my first impression as well. But then again, I'm the same guy who replaced the goldfish that went belly up with a piranha. Since this is an eating thread you should take what I say with a grain of salt.

I secretly despise you for all the relationship topics, but there is no stopping them.

When I find the kryptonite, it will be a game changer. (picture villain laughing)
I could tell you what her kryptonite is. It's very simple...

Uh...

*Lynx glances at seoulsearch glaring at him.

Er...

Nothing. Not a thing in the world. She has no weakness at all. Nope. Not a one.

*Lynx walks away whistling innocently.

I'm glad your laughing, because I mean no harm to you at all.

So, I'm intriguing?

Is it my smile?

I used to have a co-worker, that did tennis lessons on the side. I quoted a phrase I heard before which was, "if you can't do it, teach it".

Definitely don't think marriage is an ideal situation for me, but if people want to go that route, that is entirely their choice. power to the people.
Haha... This is the version I used to tell my kids about sports, life and musical theater:
"Those who can - Do...
Those who can't - Teach...
Those who can't Teach - Referee..." haha

Yeah, that's one I think. It rings true. Not the most flattery of sayings, but why does truth have to be nice all the time?!?! Jesus took a whip to the money changers.

Okay, while I have never experienced that scenario personally... I have had to pull off a couple/few family celebrations as a lone chef to pull something together...

Survival Rule of Thumb #1 Stick with the foundational fundamentals of KISS...
ie Mexican is always an easy fix where the appetizers and entree are always a winning combination...
Appetizers: Chips dip, taquitos, flautos, quesedias etc
Entrees: Tostadas, Tacos, Enchiladas
Often times - it's so good - it really doesn't matter if the pie was prepped the night before from a can and pie crust...
Next Day Breakfast - Migas

Hey Everyone,

Here's another scenario for people to ponder and tell us what they would do! At the same time, you're giving us little insights into your personality. :)

Here's the sit(uation):

* You have been seeing a special someone for some time now, and are going to meet his/her parents for the first time. You are meeting them for dinner, and have been asked to prepare/supply the meal. Naturally, you want to make a good first impression!

THE PRESSURE IS ON!!!

Do you:

A. Plan an elaborate 7-course meal, then cook everything from scratch by yourself, including a 5-layer cake for dessert.

B. Call your mama and ask HER to cook an elaborate 7-course meal from scratch for you, then pass it all off as your own.

C. Shell out a small fortune on GrubHub, set up an elaborate table setting with candles (so that people can't see the food -- or containers -- very clearly,) and try to pass THIS off as your own cooking.

D. Order 2 pizzas and call it a day (or evening.)

E. Openly confess that your idea of cooking is popping a cup of ramen noodles in the microwave, and then offer to buy her and her family dinner.

F. I know you all probably have other answers than the ones given, so don't be shy and let's hear them! :)
For me, I lived 2000 miles away from my parents so It was usually me getting invited to her parent's home for dinner. I realized early that it was always better to meet "the father" on equal grounds at a restaurant. I always paid for the dinner. I think it gave her parent's a feeling that I was responsible and
respectful...

for me its the letter D: I cannot cook, not in a financial position to feed a group of people, and being an introvert and have an aversion to social gatherings, this would be a very strange event for me. Pizzas are quick to devour, less time spent the better!

I had thought of answer G...goldfish sushi from the previous Seoul thread.

I have been ask to look after a fish AND prepare dinner at the same time this week. I dont know what the third challenge/test is going to be....its going from bad to worse for me.

I would so not be a candidate for any 'reality' type tv show.

My oldest brother once swallowed a goldfish to prove he would/could do it. Held it by its tail, tipped his head back, and dropped it down his gullet  I should ask him about that :giggle: He also used to tell us that tapioca was frogs' eyes LOL. "Us" being his youngest six or seven siblings ;)

Oh yeah, I never answered the question...

I'd probably cook a big pot of chili and serve it with a loaf of sourdough bread. Maybe some deviled eggs on the side. Peach cobbler for dessert. Nothing fancy, but it sure is delicious.

I like to cook sometimes when I am in the mood. But meeting his parents for the first time will not probably put me in the mood. Maybe some other time if I am more comfortable with them. So dinner at a favorite restaurant sounds better.

Correction: my oldest brother (and his wife, too) confirmed that swallowing a goldfish for the heck of it was the sort of thing my middle brother would do :D Although it was definitely my oldest brother who told us that tapioca was frogs' eyes :giggle: Thank you for giving me an excuse to phone my brother and his wife :D They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year (y)

I'm not a traditionalist, so it depends on what they are in the mood for. I find it more likely someone else will cook.

I can do a lot of simple prep work and follow instructions, so help out with some of that I suppose.

There are quite a few things I can make that are rather niche items (stove popcorn for instance) that at least one friend was impressed I knew how to make. It's better and really not that hard. You can also make tons for how much it costs :p

I reread the thread scenario...can my significant other not help me? If not, I'd probably phone whoever was the most proficient at the dish the parents wanted. Every person has something they excel at dish-wise, so it'd be a tough call.

If for some reason I "had" to cook not knowing preferences...I'd mostly likely do Spaghetti/salad/bread.

Or perhaps go buy a rotisserie chicken (like $7) and make some baked potatoes and some olive oil toasted broccoli. Just too many variables with this one ;)
