With the heart man believes unto righteousness, or being right or just. Justification is the work of the cross for all who believe.
With the mouth he confesses unto salvation
Confession of Jesus as lord is a different matter then believing. It is not lip service but genuine submitting to His lordship over our lives that saves us.
Why call me Lord Lord and not do what I say.

Just because the justification was Christ's work alone does not free you from the required giving yourself over to His Lordship in obedience from the heart for your salvation.

1cor 1.2
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people

A qualifier as to who the church really is.
It does not say that because you are part the “church” that you are sanctified. Rather it says those who are the Church are those who have been sanctified (set apart) in Christ Jesus “Called” to be His Holy People.

1 cor 6:11
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God and that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

That does not say because you are “Christian” now that you are sanctified.
Rather the opposite, it is a warning to those “Christians” who are not sanctified telling them they should not expect to inherit the kingdom of God.
If you are no longer sinful and wicked, Then you have been washed and you have been sanctified… Then these things are true of you.
He says do not be deceived, it is not some rose colored glasses God wears to give you a pass because you say the magic words or give some mental ascent to the truth of something.

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does
what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous - 1 John 3:7

True; IF...
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
(Led by the spirit of God into meeting all of these if’s)
15For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. 24For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Eph 1.5
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
(That is to say in creating man he predestined those who would believe in there hearts and confess with the mouths Jesus as Lord and be saved and those who did not to everlasting fire.)
that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses (trespass is the outward violation but iniquity is the source of sin, that is the realm of the salvation work of sanctification that you are commanded to work out with fear and trembling. AKA make you calling and election sure), according to the riches of His grace 8which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. 13In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed
( in the day a letter was sealed with wax or clay and was legally binding if the seal remained unbroken, that seal was placed on our hope, our belief ) in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14who is given as a pledge ( a down payment, part of any good contract showing the good faith intent of the one who made it. In other words, God will hold up His end if we continue in faith and do not break that seal ) of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

As far as God is concerned it is a done deal.
As far as we are concerned it is not.

Consider this...
That is correct: They were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He will certainly not spare you either. Take notice, therefore, of the kindness and severity of God: severity to those who fell, but kindness to you, if you continue in His kindness. (continued belief / active faith giving yourself to His Lordship) Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again - Romans 11:20-23

while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death (past tense) of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5-10
Two separate things.
There is no more condemnation for a believer because ..Romans 8 , 9¶But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

The gift it free.
if you reject it or neglect it or make full use of it that is up to you.

But if you are given a free gift and you fail to make use of it, have you really received it at all?

If you do not make use of it it is of no benefit to you.
Again', you are mixing up justification and sanctification. IOW, can a person who is born (again) be unborn? Or does God perform abortions?

No you are blending them into one, they are two different works.

One of Christ in the flesh and the cross, past tense have been saved in regards to justification and receiving the holy spirit as the seed of your spiritual conception.
One of Christ in the spirit and abiding in the vine, present tense being saved in regards to having Christ Jesus fully formed in you.
Or did you not know that is what goes on between conception and birth?
My children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you - Gal 4:19
After birth you begin to live in the light with Christ (in you) which is your hope of glory.
So You grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ Jesus and get filled up to all the fullness of God.
You drink up the milk of the word growing fat and healthy.
You start to recognize Gods voice.
Eventually you begin to understand a few words when He speaks.
Soon you are out of your diapers of sin and then you begin to live the rest of your mortal life for the glory of God
growing in strength into the fullness of the stature of Christ Jesus and become filled up to all the fullness of God.

Future tense salvation or the successful completion of salvation, you do not possess yet and that is dependent on your becoming born again into the likeness of Jesus, to Have Christ fully formed in you as the apostle said.
After such point you are born again and secure in that life.
receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your'souls. - 1 Peter 1:9

The question at hand in the original post is do you strive to make sure that is what is actually happening in you since your own fleshly heart of man is so deceitfully wicked (self deception)?
These are the instruction from the word of God how to be sure you are not deceiving yourself.

seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
You have everything that is necessary in order to become partakers of the divine nature and escape our sins.

Now for this very reason (what reason, oh yes divine nature, Christ in you) also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ

If these are yours...
Are you unfruitful?...

For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

Are you lacking, short-sighted, blind?
Have you forgotten the cross of Christ?

Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble, and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1

In your heart are you sure, do you want to be.
Peter tells us how we can be.

in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge.

So many seem to skip the first step.
But without moral excellence how will you see in order to get true knowledge?
How will you grasp knowledge without tainting it with the filth of your sin?
The truth is if you are still a slave to sin your knowledge can not be trusted.

One thing leads to another....

faith -> moral excellence -> knowledge -> self-control -> perseverance -> godliness -> brotherly kindness -> love.

Welcome to the narrow path.
Welcome to the way.

My sureness is not found in my heart but in the Promises of God.
The promises of God are conditional.
How many will be lost thinking they have what they do not, saying those very same words?
This is back to where we started.
I still hold that promises are unconditional and laws are conditional.
I am sure of my calling and election as it is not grounded in me or my good works, but in God's promises to His children, rooted in Christ's perfect obedience in my stead. You can build your foundation on the mistaken notion that promises of God are conditional as they were under the Old Covenant ('If you obey, then I will do') rather than on faith in Jesus Christ (in Whom all the promises are yea and Amen').
I'll leave you to preach and dictate to yourself as obviously you are set in your beliefs and I in mine. I'd rather spend my time more wisely. Good day.

Read the context and who he is speaking to and when . And abiding is just that. I'm not sure if you believe your saved in any sense beyond 'I'm trying to be' ? Any qualifier to " I am saved , ... is a problem .

This is back to where we started.
I still hold that promises are unconditional and laws are conditional.
Try reading this then.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.... Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature.

The promises are through something else.
We have everything we need to lay hold of them given to us.
The promises are not just a get out of hell free card.
The promises are connected to becoming, partakers of the divine nature ourselves.
So if through receiving the promises you are doing just that or perhaps not.
Thankfully you can test yourself to make sure you are in the faith.
Strive to make you calling and election sure, to be sure you have received the promises and what is supposed to come through them.
Peter say how to test yourself, if you fail this side of eternity you can start over, the other side is not where you want to find out.

But enough struggling with you. If you cant accept, don't see, or just don't want it that way then you just ahead and go your own way.

Really need to post pretty much the entire preceding verses to gain real context of what is being said. Plucking one verse is such a bad habit us Christians do. Because of that, it has turned this thread into another works debate.
He has given us everything we need to live how we should.
We need to believe that.
When we do, then go on from verse 10...

It is the Lordship of Jesus over our lives that results in salvation.
Jesus’ Lordship is over my life and presumably yours as well but it is His Saviour-ship that results in salvation.

One of my favorite passages to live by, teach and share with others.

3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

To me it is very clear that by following these instructions I will make sure that I do not backslide. Many do not follow these intructions and out of neglect slip back into sins they were once delivred from. Why? we ask. The answer is because they did not follow these instructions. Are they saved? Not if they stay in that condition. And if they repent from their FALLING and their backsliding how will they have confidence that they will not fall again? By following these instructions. It is that simple.

I don't get caught up in the philosophical arguments about OSAS I simply follow these instructions in order to know that I will never fall. If I don't follow these instructions I know that I can fall and probably would. So don't ignore these instructions and you will not fall away. Let the others argue about OSAS just make sure you are DOING what Peter said to do.

Notice the admonition to brotherly kindness and love. Some of those in these CC posting are not nice and are not kind and so I would guess that sin waits at their door crouching or may have already entered in and they are not mastering it and they are falling, have fallen or will fall. Unless they practice brotherly kindness they cannot be sure of not falling.
