Because, it sure causes me a whole lot of misery! :mad:

I would surely like to know what this script is trying to do - that constantly tries to drive CPU% and MEM% way up!

It sometimes starts sucking up computer resources so much that it causes my computer to hang - and I have to reboot.

Nearly every page I have to "beat it down and kill it" before I can do anything on that page - including, simply scroll the page.

What is the deal?!?!?!?!?

Do you operate with multiple browsers and/or tabs open? I do, sometimes three browsers at a time, with every one having many tabs open, especially the main one I use, which is Mozilla Firefox these days :) It may be that any tab that has something active on it, like a gif, or youtube (even paused), will cause this message to show up, as that page is indeed sucking up power. Closing such pages may help, though I often just click the "Wait" option :D If you are only using one browser with one page/tab open at a time, I don't know what to suggest.

I am just very aggravated at having to deal with it.

Yes, I use multiple windows and tabs.

Yes, pages with a lot of images and/or videos make it go completely crazy. You would think that the computer was going to "throw a fan" - like a car engine might "throw a rod"... :rolleyes:

I don't think that I would ever wish it upon anyone; however, in a weird kind of way (you will know what I mean), it is nice to know that I am not the only one having to deal with this... o_O

No but I'm familiar with lag in games.

If I were going to an area that graphically had too much dressing because of all the people there and all the extra coding of their customizations I would make sure that nothing else was open if I really wanted to go there.

So maybe something of the same? I'm quite surprised that simple text threads cause this for you.

Well ---- I am using an old laptop ---- and, an old version of the browser ---- and cannot do any better at the moment.

Except, of course, on my phone - which "runs circles" around the laptop in terms of speed and being able to see things (like videos - and some pictures - which I cannot see on the laptop).

The laptop is being 'overrun' by all of the 'activity' of the scripts that run on every page (some more than others it seems). A thread page with lots of pictures, GIFs, videos, etc. really wreaks havoc on it.

That particular script is "in my face" constantly.

It can take literally minutes to achieve the simplest of things.

I can sometimes shorten the delay by minimizing the window and then bringing it back up.

A great deal of the time I have to minimize the window - wait for the fan speed in the laptop to drop back down (indicating CPU usage drop - which occurs in 'levels') - and then open the window back up and try to continue...

It is a very patience-testing hassle.

Hmm...I don't use a phone for CC as I can type way faster than a clunky touch pad on a phone.

The only thing I notice is when people post smiley's in their phone's language it shows up as rectangles for me. Took me a LONG time to figure out what those squares were lol.

I know you can control + alt + delete and look for the internet and set priority to "highest" and that can sometimes change things.

A quick search came up with this.

  • Cluttered temporary Internet files
  • Malware infection
  • Unwanted browser add-ons or extensions
  • Weak WiFi signal
  • Multiple browser sessions
  • Multiple security products

For gaming it was called a cache but I think temp internet files is the same thing. That's cookies and stored data and it's possible that your cache is full or something leading to latency (lag).

Have you tried deleting all your cookies and stuff? I know how to do it in Internet explorer and even though I don't ever use it I do with one pay website (because it's the only one that works) and I had to clear the files in order to log in and not get errors. Note: I use I.E for nothing but logging into that one website once a month and I still had to clear temp files to get it to work. So if you use I.E maybe try another browser.

It is as if that script wants to take over the computer every time it runs. Whatever-all it is trying to do - it "hangs up" and "times out" - causing the message I placed in the OP. It "over-drives" the computer - and will hang the computer if you let it go long enough.

It could also be a hardware problem. I have no issues with forums but if I play any game with advanced graphics the PC gets so hot it burns my hand if I lay it there. This could be faulty thermal paste or just plain overheating. You "can" put a fan on the fan to help with that.

I get random errors when I used that gaming website. Like something somewhere is not compatible with the PC but it doesn't always happen.

Not sure how to work around the script doing that. I'll do some research.

Oh also @GaryA has CC ever shut your PC down if it gets overheated?

This is the reason I put up with it. (I just know someone is asking 'Why does he put up with it?' ;) )

As a rule - I only use the phone when I have to to watch a video or some such thing that I cannot do on the laptop.

Just call me old-fashioned -- I would rather use a keyboard and a 'normal' sized screen as much as I can get away with...

Yes - if your computer happens to be several years old, the thermal paste may have "broken down" / "dried out" and is not working well enough any more - in which case, it needs to be cleaned up and replaced with new "fresh" thermal paste.

I have been told by someone I know that is "up on the latest" hardware and software that most of the latest versions have a means of dealing with it.

I never let it get to the point of overheating. When the CPU fan speed "goes way up" [when it really should not], I start doing things to bring it back down.

The script that is running on your computer from this website is known as JavaScript. This website requires JavaScript for it to function normally, but what you showed doesn't look normal.

What you are describing sounds like a javscript memory leak to me. I don't know why you would be having that on this website though. Which web browser do you use if I may ask? Which add-ons/plug-ins/extensions do you use?

The script is most likely running in what is known as an "if statement, in, for, next loop" so in other words it is running in perpetuity until all of your computer's memory resources are maxed out.

The script is huge. Actually the webmaster should probably take a look at that link you posted.

Thank you for your post. It may give me some ideas for what to look for. When I find the time, I plan to analyze that script to find out what-all it is trying to do. (I am a programer. And, I do know what JavaScript is.)

I am using SeaMonkey in a Linux environment. The versions of both are 'old' compared to today.

The add-ons are few and basic. No plug-ins at all.

Yes - it would be nice if someone would look into it.

This is quite rare for a Linux OS environment; because, Linux is so much more "robust" (stable) than MS Windows. This kind of thing is "normal" for an MS Windows environment; however, when it happens in a Linux environment - something is seriously wrong somewhere.

Oh - BTW - one of the "side-effects" of this situation is that - I sometimes cannot get posts out as fast as at least most of the rest of you can - sometimes it can take a while for me to get a post out.

Heck - sometimes - just trying to read the posts of others in some threads is an 'ordeal'... :rolleyes:

I would look into it but I'm not tech savvy and have no idea of what you are dealing with. I use a lap top too but don't have a smart phone as I only have a basic TracFone. What's a CPU? I think that MEM% has to do with memory capacity but I could be wrong about that too. I do care though if that's any consolation.
