This made me LOL; but in SA the 25 and 26th is public holidays and the shops (except for the smaller grocery shops) are usually not open. So in SA it would be a "yes".
I normally try to make it a family day, spending time with the people I love
2 thirds of the New Testament is quotes from the OT. So how does that work exactly? If "scripture is clearly against it" we can only read and use a 1 third of the NT

. The first time we realized what Christmas is all about my wife and I just went out to buy all of these beautiful decorations... and we threw it in the trash...I also kept Christmas as a child (and even a grownup) that is why I can't argue about this. I just don't do it anymore after realizing what it is really all about.

I had an interesting journey the last few months. I am busy watching these testimonies of a group called Jews for Jesus. They also have these guys going out speaking to the Jews in Israel. What they do is they will start telling the Jews about this leader that is kept secret by the rabbis and they explain to the Jews all that Jesus did (make them read Isaiah 53 which is kept secret by the rabbis). Most of the reactions are "it must have been the most Jewish person that ever lived"... pause... Wait... What? How can Jesus be the most Jewish person that ever lived? I know he was a Jew but surely he couldn't have been Jewish? The Message is clear that Jesus is and was Jewish. Whether we like it or not.
The interesting part is always when the interviewer ask them who do you think it was? 9/10 does not even give Jesus a mention or a consideration. The Orthodox Jews run away at the mention of the name Yeshua. Interestingly it is as if the women are more open to hear about the Messiah. The men are stubborn man

As I was watching this the thought came to me "these Jews are so stubborn, and will keep on living a lie even if they hear the truth"... but God stopped me in my tracks and said "what about the Christians? You also have the truth, but are you following it?" I had to repent there and then and ask Abba Father for forgiveness because of my own blindness and stubbornness.
May we as a Christian family become more aware of God, His truth and His plan for our lives.

"An eye for an eye, and the whole world goes blind."I guess this is all meant to be light hearted ... but it’s feels a lot like an eye for an eye Thread. it’s like bullying the bullies, and I thought we were a bit more mature than that.
If people are convicted about something it is wrong for them to do it. We aren’t meant to belittle them. If they judge The freedoms of those not bound by those same convictions of course that is wrong in their part, but we have missed the mark too if we think that makes it right to mock them for their convictions. We are not meant to cause weaker ones to stumble, or those with sensitive consciences.
Sorry if you think I am being stuck up or over sensitive but on things like this especially aren’t we meant to be shinning out a “bearing with One another in love” beacon to the world?
I knew a lady at my church Who didn’t celebrate Christmas, she never made a scene about the tree in church or Santa being everywhere when she visited friends and family. But every year she was criticised and hounded to join in and people saying they were praying for her to come to her senses and stop
Being a legalist. People Deliberately boug and wrapped up presents and said you can’t open it until Christmas Day. It made her feel belittled and humiliated but she tried to be polite about it. She left eventually and I realised in effect how cruel and unloving and Legalist the whole church had been to her by refusing to love her and respect her convictions as being valid and important. Even if she had been mouthy and pushy it wouldn’t have been right to do what they did back. It’s not the way of love.
It’s a lesson I learned the hard way and so with that I will just ask we all take a second thought to treating other as they treat us instead of as we wish they would treat us. I am not saying anyone here is nasty, but it can sure slip
into us and them, when there should only ever be an us.

This thread is not making fun of people like the lady you knew at your church. This thread is making fun of the people who insist that everybody should do the same as the lady at your church. Basically we're making fun of the people who would be on that lady's side, but are as annoying as the people who picked on the lady for what she believed and practiced.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. So true believers keep all appointed feast days through Him, whether we worship on a Sabbath or a Sunday, whether we celebrate Christmas or only the official Old Testament feast days, or both, or neither, and whether our celebratory meal consists of pork, chicken or lamb, or strictly vegetables.2 thirds of the New Testament is quotes from the OT. I am not going to derail Lynx's thread in this direction because there are too many threads discussing these topics. I hear you, I will respectfully disagree and we can keep on discussing Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, Bigfoot and Yeti, Halloween and candy

That's akin to believing that if I pray to God for counsel, and then open the Bible on the page where Judas hung himself, that means God advised me to hang myself.
I only know about the Jehovah's Witnesses not celebrating birthdays (two are mentioned in the Bible, and each resulted in someone's death) because I worked at place in college where I had a friend who was JW.
At the time, I was bringing the Bible to work with me and reading on my breaks, so she and I would talk about the beliefs we were raised with and the differences between them. I asked her to bring in her Bible so I could glance through it, and attended a Kingdom Hall meeting with her (she didn't ask me -- I asked to go along -- she was not the pushy type at all.) I just wanted to see what it was all about.
I don't know if it's like the Lutheran church I was raised in, with varying divisions and differences of beliefs?
But she was my friend, and I was interested in why she believed what she did. For instance, when the topic of birthdays came up, she would mention when her birthday was but when people asked what she was doing for it, she would say nothing, and then explain why. We had another close friend who was an atheist.
Amazingly, we were all friends throughout our years there and I can't remember a single time when we got in arguments or ever degraded each other while talking about what we believed, even though it was wide and varied.
I really miss those days.
I'm sorry, I didn't say it to be mean or to offend your friend, I was just making the point that such approach to the events in the Bible is superstitious.

I was just trying to explain, I thought maybe someone (not you, but anyone reading,) might be thinking, "Now why would she know anything about the Jehovah's Witnesses!"
Isn't it crazy how we always feel we have to explain ourselves here in order to try to dodge a few bullets? I VERY much enjoy your insights and breakdowns of information.

Hi Sarah, it is definitely meant to be funny. Lynx has a great sense of humour so he is just playing.
For years, on my birthday, I would give my parents a "Congratulations on your first born" card. I laughed every single time, and yes, I am the first born.
Apparently, celebrating a birthday is a pagan practice of some sorts. Just about anything one can do in the course of a day is probably a pagan practice.
Popcorn was invented by Native Americans who by some accounts, whose practices, while containing spiritual aspects, were pagan in general Microwave popcorn is definitely pagan though.
