I am in agreement with tribesman, in that repentance is a product of regenerated people.

Perish = death = separation. When a regenerated person commits a sin, they separate themselves from their fellowship with God, because God will not fellowship sin. When they confess their sin and repent, and if God forgives them, they have just experienced a salvation=deliverance (here in time, not eternally, because they already have their eternal inheritance). from the consequences of that sin.

I fail to see that the apostles are specifically pointed out in John 6:40.

Scriptures uphold that there will be such a large number in heaven that they cannot be counted, as many as the stars in heaven, and the sand in the seashore. the scriptures that mention "the few", "the remnant", "the little flock", etc, are referencing those of God's children that have been revealed the truths of Jesus's doctrine, and are teaching, and preaching it.

You and I are in disagreement as to who God loves, and does not love. Heb 12:6, For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. You claim that he chastens everyone. You should read Psalms 73, paying special attention to verse 5 - They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they "plagued=divinely punished" like other men.

We are told we can be forgiven for every sin but blasphemy, even for sins we don't know about.

The Sacrificial System was a shadow of Christ. In Leviticus 5:17-18 they were offered forgiveness for sins they weren't aware of committing. Christ gives us forgiveness in a more perfect way. In Psalm 19:12 "Who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults."

Scripture also states we are to repent. The Lord is aware that we cannot be perfect, we can only repent and give our will to be perfect to the Lord. Can we be forgiven if we will not repent?

Can we be forgiven if we do not will to be perfect, if we don't repent?

“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”

repentance is necessary but it needs to be understood First . Repentance isn’t to determine to “ never sin again” repentance is in regards to what you have already done . And it begins in the heart and mind

God made man for good and he saw what man had become doing evil to each other , so this brought repentance to his heart and mind. Repentance is something internal that then leads to actions if it is genuine .

We really need to figure out why so many are not recognized by the Lord. Could it be related to repentance and the ability of the Lord to hear us?

We know that the Lord can have no fellowship with the darkness of sin, and it is only through repentance and Christ that we can emerge from that darkness. We can only have fellowship with the Lord, the Lord can only hear us, when Christ has cleansed us of our sin. We are told to do that we must repent and turn to Christ in faith. Then we live through Christ, not through our fleshly sin. Christ is holy and pure, Christ cannot be with sin.
