Gen 12:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And
in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
notice the two parts of God covenant
i will make you A Nation in and Give you Land
all the nations of the earth will be blessed
it is confirmed later
as for the land we see in Gen 15
On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:
“
To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— 19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
this is the land That God promised to give abraham. A land abraham never possessed, although he did live and was buried there, the land would not be given for at least 400 years because as God said, the sin of the A o rite was not yet complete as seen in the final confirmation to abraham of the same covenant he made in Gen 12. This found in Gen 15
And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and
you shall be a father of many nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called [
c]Abram, but your name shall be [
d]Abraham;
for I have made you a father of [e]many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful;
and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. 7 And I will establish My covenant
between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. 8 Also
I give to you and your descendants after you the land in[f] which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”
1. we know the land was only given to one, not all descendents, as God said in Gen 15 when he made a one way covenant with abraham concerning the land
Gen 15: 4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.”
imediately after God told abraham, I give you this land
we also know this from Gen 17. Via sarah
19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
so as we see there are a total of three things promised to abraha,
1. in you shall all the nations be blessed, this is the promise of Christ, and all who are saved be it Jew or Gentile, partakes of this aspect of Gods covenant with Abraham
2. land, given to abraham , and his descendants through Isaac and eventually Jacob,
3. many nations and many kings, examples are the nation given through Ishmael, amd edom through esau, abraham had many sons, we do not know how many kings and nations in total came from abraham
