I dont think kjv onlyists believe in magic?!
thats just an accusation thats a bit baseless. The thing with people who prefer KJV is that its scripture is inspired and they use it everyday, so all other bibles translations in comparison fall short.

KJV translators also had lots of mansucripts available to them at the time. Its mostly based on Tyndales translation. The team didnt have to resort to any latin because they he was translating from the ORIGINAL langauages, not from the latin. It as only some words that you cannot translate as one word into english, that are added or transliterated. These are in italics. Most editions have this.

If there is a better translation that most christians use, then name it, but for over four hundred years its been inspiring christians so I wouldnt knock it.
Comparisons regarding the age of the KJB Vs modern English editions are unfair. The NIV may yet prove to outlast the KJV.
Jerome's Latin Vulgate was the standard for more than a millennium. The KJB has another 600 years to go to prove it's worth on a scale of time. If you want to use time as a yardstick.

Scripture is inspired in many translations. Not only in the KJB.

KJV translators did indeed use the Latin Vulgate to fill in gaps.

KJV Only cultists consistently hijack these threads with their accusations and vilification of ALL translations other that the KJV. We are never left in peace to discuss the beauty of the Bible and textual criticism. They stop us from discussing other translations EVERY time.
They very much do behave as though they have a magic translation and frequently claim it is even more accurate than the Hebrew & Greek from which it was translated.

Aaaand yet another claim of "the NASB must be wrong because it doesn't agree with the KJV".

Don't you have something meaningful to do with your time... like learn about logical fallacies?
I never said the NASB is wrong because it doesn't AGREE with the KJV. The NASB is wrong because it says CONTINUE IN SIN. That is absolutely false. Do you agree?

love KJV use the NKJV and pre 1984 NIV
me too, primarily these, tho i also love Young's literal ((YLT)). it's much like an interlinear, because it is very much word-for-word.
i find the YLT very useful to look at and compare to 'standard' translations like KJV, NIV, ESV, NASB etc that make interpretive choices to render the scripture into English.
similar to how when you come to a passage that seems difficult to understand, you might look up the Greek or Hebrew and dig into what words are actually there, what words aren't, and what each individual word being used generally means. an interlinear or a computer tool is really useful for this, but often i find myself just reading on my phone without time or opportunity to get big books off the shelf or open up lots of links in a program or website, and YLT is a pretty common open-source translation that you can get for Bible phone apps.

I point out that there is no such thing as which bible is your favorite bible. I point out that God's word is PERFECT with no errors and people can trust every single word of it.

Hi Rosemary,
It happens that I love Shakespeare. Especially the poems. Elizabethan English is even more antiquated than KJ English
but I find it lovely. That is a leisure pursuit though. I would never want to have a detailed instruction manual for life or a world historical record written in Elizabethan English.

Very early on in my walk with the Lord I sought a Bible in plain English. I was gifted an NIV and it brought so much joy to my life. It helped me grow in intimacy with him over the years. I still treasure it despite the cries of CORRUPTION!! from a religious cult. The Holy Spirit has not rejected the NIV & I don't see that they have any right to do so. In more recent years I've been using an NASB with a CSB in parallel. But my 2 NIVs contain all my personal notes from over the years.

It sounds rather lazy. Like you can't be bothered to research anything & would rather be told what to think.

Why doesn't the translation of this verse set off alarms in the spirit of every Christian?

This is a false gospel, it leads people AWAY from the truth, it's no where close to being translated right. That which is born of God CAN NOT sin PERIOD, its' IMPOSSIBLE to sin.

The NASB is telling you that that which is born of God will continue to sin from time to time. How can a Christian recommend another Christian read a bible that leads them AWAY from the truth?

1 John 3:9
New American Standard Bible

9 No one who has been born of God practices sin, because His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin continually, because he has been born of God.

No, I don't agree, because that's not what it says. Here is the verbatim text of my NASB:

1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin because he is born of God.

Nobody tells me what to think, I read my bible, trust it and believe it.

Because every Christian is not as confused as you are.

Why did you drop continually? Are you rewriting the NASB to fix the error?

So you're in full support of promoting a bible that leads people away from the truth?
Why didn't you show me where is mislead on that verse.

You refuse to research and you don't trust the word of God enough to believe it can be true in all languages & dialects at all times.

You didn't come to a KJV Only position without human instruction. Whether by reading or by teaching.
The Holy Spirit doesn't lead anyone to such false, divisive doctrine.

I'm not following you in circles of confusion.
The NASB you are attacking doesn't lead people away from the truth.

You don't know anything about how I came to my beliefs. Nobody told me the KJV was the inerrant word of God, I have enough common sense to recognize the difference between truth and lies.

Was that question confusing to you? Just answer the simple question or admit you don't know.

Surely someone somewhere has told you to only stick with the KJV , but it defo has not come from the Holy Spirit...
