If you have to ask for forgiveness once you’re saved, Jesus died in vain.

Let it sink in, marinade, and toss that baby on the grill! Oh sorry... we aren’t cooking, that’s for sinners (Hell 😅😆). I better stop, lol. I can hear the elongated shocked “wows.”

In all seriousness, and forgive me for the perceivable crudeness in that joke, what we have to understand is that Jesus died once and for all. He paid the penalty for sin and granted us the remission of our sins. We are forgiven. How else do the lost become saved today?

By the same shed blood of Jesus 2000 years ago. It still applies, to pay the penalty for their sin and grant forgiveness. Likewise, our sins (believers) too are washed in the blood of Christ. Scripture says that “without the shedding of blood there is no remission.” So it’s Jesus’ blood or it’s nothing. We are forgiven or we aren’t. We are. Thanks to the blood of the Lamb. Praise God. 🙌

Good post and yes I agree.

I have a question for you. So people say that you must also confess sins in order to receive forgiveness. People usually cite 1 John 1:9 to substantiate that. While confession to God is definitely important, how it is possible to remember every single sin? What happens if you didn't confess a sin you committed unknowingly? Or is this just talking about out confession as being a sinner in general?

For believers confessing and repenting of sin is necessary to maintain fellowship with our Savior. We do not want to quench or grieve to Holy Spirit by sinning and not seeking forgiveness for that sin.

The blood of Christ is superior to the blood of animals because it does not just cover sin but it cleanses sin away. Sin that God has said He will remember no more.

You need to repent and seek forgiveness for that "joke".

Out of reverence, respect, and love for God, my Lord and Savior, I ask daily for forgiveness for my sins. When I sin, and know it, I cannot go on as if nothing happened. Yes, my sins have been forgiven (past, present, and future), but I still feel it proper to acknowledge my sins and ask for forgiveness....basically, that I am sorry.
Jesus did not die in vain, by no means.
Question for you: when you sin, do you go along as if it is okay, and no action needed? Please do not take this as a hostile question...am just trying to learn something here.
Thank you, and God bless.

If you say sorry to your spouse because you did something wrong it doesn't mean your marriage was in vain.
The original covenant continues.

Adultery!

The Disciples told the Gentiles that sexual immorality was [forbidden] once they accepted Christ as Lord and Savior.

What does Adultery do?
Creates Victims.

So, if a spouse commits Adultery, that is a [SIN] to God, a act to harm your spouse and children, and anyone else connected.

But if I am [saved] by accepting Christ, then I commit Adultery, it's too hell with God, the spouse, the children-family-friends because I am "Forgiven." Those destroyed lives don't deserve my Forgiveness of them because I am SAVED! Heck, they don't even need me to be remorseful. They should ask me for Forgiveness. I am SAVED!

I don't buy it!

When I sin , I cannot help but come before God and confess my wrong doing , we are to respect our heavenly Father...
I know if I did not confess , I lose my peace , I want to be walking upright before my Father , guilt gets to the best of us , and nothing grows from sweeping it under the carpet and pretending all is well , it eats away at you eventually...

When I confess , I feel the Living water has washed over me , I do not want to hide anything from God , He is my Father , and I thank my Lord Jesus that I can come boldly to the throne of Grace Amen...

Who said anything about adultery?

I was giving example of (1) the specific sin and (2) cause/effect of the sin.

And adding all the damage up trying to imagine how could you not Repent? Those are your actions.

But this thread idealism I am getting from the Author, makes me think he believes this is still covered under the Blood.

This has nothing to do with you personally, I read your post, it gave me the idea about if you commit Adultery, destroy lives, believe you're still good with God is pushing the envelop on this is owed to us.

I wasn't thinking of anything as serious as adultery.

The OP suggested "If you have to ask for forgiveness once you’re saved, Jesus died in vain. "

I was just framing the idea of relationship with God in a picture of marriage.
We don't say our marriage is in vain because we ask for forgiveness for having done something wrong to the person we married years ago. It's the right thing to do in the marriage relationship.

To everyone who has responded thus far: @49 @Runningman @Lucy-Pevensie @Rosemaryx

Please notice that I didn’t say sin confession was bad, only that we aren’t seeking forgiveness once saved (because we are forgiven through the blood of the Lamb and Jesus will not die again on the cross as it says in Hebrews). Once and for all, for all sin. He is the propitiation for the sins of the world, as it says in 1 John 2.

Sin confession for the sake of transparency before God is healthy and good! It is not, however, the means to judicial forgiveness before God. I too say sorry to the Lord, because I know that in truth we are to use our members for righteousness unto God and not sin unto death. “Shall we sin so that grace abounds? Nay!”

We can go to the Lord with our sin and ask Him to get to the root of it, expose it to us, and deliver us from it so that we may continue to walk in love.

The point being that we do not seek forgiveness on an eternal level through some type of confession beyond the confession of our faith in Jesus Christ. Forgiveness cannot happen, the remission of sin, without the shedding of blood. This is why Jesus died and rose again (to eventually put the blood on the mercy seat in the heavenly tabernacle).

I find that the book of Hebrews is foundational in teaching the total forgiveness of sin, as we look at Jesus as our High Priest and what His sacrifice accomplished.

@Runningman Do we find anywhere in the NT that in order to be forgiven we must confess our sins? You mentioned 1 John 1:9 but if you just continue to 1 John 2:1-2, you’ll see exactly what I am saying.

We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and He is the propitiation for our sins (and even the world’s sin once a person places their faith in Christ). So which is it, sin confession or Christ the advocate, who is the propitiation for our sins? Not to mention in 1 John 1:7 it says walking in the light, having fellowship with each other, the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from all sin. All sin.

How does one seek forgiveness from what is cleansed in the light? There are too many surrounding contradictions to “sin confession for forgiveness” in the context of the verse being used. Even from the start of 1 John 1, in verse 3 it sounds like the Gospel is being preached.

3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Every time I’ve read this, I don’t see sin confession for forgiveness for the believer. I see the Gospel being preached. “Do you say you do not have sin?” The truth is not in you, the word is not in you. It is showing people the means to forgiveness is through Jesus who cleanses us of all unrighteousness. We acknowledge we are indeed sinners (we have sin) and He is the savior who cleanses us of all unrighteousness.

I used to ask for forgiveness

Now I Thank God for forgiving me because apart from that I would be looking at hell for my sins

Then ask for strength.

I think he was referring to those who think asking forgiveness is required or the covenant is broken and a certificate divorce is given
I could be wrong though

What is sad is you hold adultry up high and do not place in the same category of all sin

That adulterer is deserving of death
yet so is the one who tells a white lie. The one who steels a cookee the one who knows to do right but decides to not do it

Stop judging the adulterer and get on your ones and confess your own sin which makes you just as worthy as he us

I don't think you have to confess every sin by deed. When you read the Psalm where david confesses before God he don't go into detail. I don't think we need to either. I think just confessing the nature of your sin whether you can name specific incidences or not. Is enough. God knows each and every sin. He is wise and knows what you're talking about. If we sat down and began to confess every single individual sin we would never get back up.
