But neither the pope nor the papacy qualify, since this man rules over the whole world for 3 1/2 years. The papacy rules over just the Catholics, and not very effectively either. Also the papacy has been around for about 1600 years, which automatically disqualifies it.
Is the mark of the beast going to be about the papacy changing the day of the Sabbath?

What scripture says people can't buy or sell without the mark on a Saturday? In Revelation 13 where the mark is first mentioned, there is nothing at all about Saturdays or Sundays or when it's ok to worship etc. Literally nothing. The mark is only something which gives people the right to be able to buy or sell things.

If keeping the forth commandment (sabbath) causes people to be persecuted, and causes them to choose between buying and selling or being obedient, would that be enough to convince that it is the mark of the beast? (sometimes all the signs and wonders will not convince people that are not willing to see)
