New Job Opportunity

Technically, this thread should probably should be started in either the Misc or Prayer Requests forums, but decided to include it here because the Christian Singles forum is where I most often post (and am better acquainted with everyone here).

Basically, I have a potential job opportunity at work in which last week I applied for a new position within the company but wanted to get some input before moving ahead (I am yet to hear from the recruiter or hiring manager).

Been feeling some frustration at work the past several months. First, was passed over for promotion for a job in which I was better qualified (than the colleague that got it). Second, annual performance assessment was above the median but not in line with my value.

After not getting the promotion, I prayed and 2 Corinthians 9:8 came into my head:

'And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work'

My interpretation is that God had other ideas and that the promotion was not the right move at the right time. So perhaps the job in which I applied was better in line with 'having all that you need'. The new job in which I applied is similar to my current position but also a bit different, so it will be a good learning and development opportunity, keeping in mind I have not even gotten the interview yet.

So just wanted to get everyone's input regarding this issue.

? You're dissatisfied with things in your current position and applying for a new one. What is there to give input on?

I got passed over for a promotion once but then a couple years later got promoted to an even higher position. I will pray that this all works out for you and for the glory of God.

I think there will be times when you apply for new things and dont get them but something else comes along that you wouldnt have got had you been placed in the other other position.

So just think of it as a blessing in any case and if it SEEMS like you are stuck and not going anywhere its still learning for you anyway, even if the only thing you learn is patience!

Have a look at Mattew 6:33. „But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.“

And Jesus says that whoever gives God and his cause first place will experience in a quite miraculous way that he does not come up short in his life, and not only that, but that he experiences a richness that cannot be outweighed by all the goods, all the successes and experiences that we often consider so important. And this has consequences. Those who put God's cause first are freed from having to take the first place themselves and from always revolving around themselves. After all, the great temptation of our lives is that we put ourselves first and spend a lifetime struggling to make sure that we don't fall short and that we get our money's worth, and we often realize too late that this is precisely how we miss out on life. I am sure this is what God wants to show you. The Lord bless you.

All I know is, every time I have been passed over in favor of somebody who was less qualified, less experienced or had less seniority, I have found out a couple months later that it was a position I REALLY did not want, that would have made a lot of stress in my life. I always wound up being grateful I had not gotten what i thought was my rightful promotion.

Maybe you dodged a bullet.

You feel like you are undervalued in your current position and you don't want to stay there anymore but a lil worried to Leave ...worried of the unknown after leaving your current position... like losing your job and lose also the new position(if they don't choose you) and many other things...


Maybe,you didn't get the promotion you were hoping because the new one has something better to offer for you...? Like what you have said "it offers better learning and development opportunities" hmmmm...well you won't know if you won't take the next big step...and that next step is giving up your current position and apply for the new position.


If you think about it and prayed about it then go for it... Don't get stuck there... If you think you can do better,you can perform better, you can learn more outside your current position then go out... It is really a lonely place to get stuck in a place where you feel like you are not valued...it is really sad to get stuck in a workplace where you are not happy anymore ... 🙁

You just have to trust God. The most important thing is finding a job you like, don't worry so much about the pay. Also, how do you know God wants you to get a better job? Maybe start working on a new business venture, with your current job?!?!

I haven't had a full time job in over two years, so don't get me started on miss opportunities. I thank God for where God has brought me thus far. Definitely see missed opportunities, but that's when I take my eyes off of God, and want to do my own thing. I have to keep trusting God, and not look in the rear view mirror.

Well, the good news is kinda had a job interview last week, and another job interview this week. Both jobs are full time and thank God for them. I see it as God's timing and direction. Maybe I get a new job, or maybe I don't. Maybe God has something far better for me waiting, if I can just wait for God.

I heard this in one of the videos, we need to have faith like children. When we were younger, our parents provided for everything, we didn't know how, they just did. Our God is much more powerful, than our parents. God can handle it, we just need to trust.

Can you wait for God? That's the bottom line.

I really like Steve Harvey's inspirational videos, they hit home for me.

I hope all is well and that you've found yourself in a job situation that you find rewarding.

Good news.

I got a full time job as a manager. Never was a manager before.

Making tons of mistakes, but getting better. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. Blessing galore! Also, other job opportunities are coming up, but staying put, not unless God changes my mind. Everything is pretty much epic right now. How can I be this happy?!?!

The same is true for me too as I feel more at home in Singles (even though I'm married) and generally accepted for who I am. I love this site and especially love the Singles forum. It is my kind of place that's for sure.

I applied for the position over three weeks ago and never heard back, so took it for granted either the job had been filled or my application was not considered. However, on Thursday I decided to reach out to the recruiter, whom answered back the next day advising she had forwarded my resume to the hiring manager! Could not be more excited...

Next step is scheduling of the interview for some time next week.

That being said, I also have to be realistic about my chances. First, it is a work at home position, so potentially the recruiter received applications from all 50 states. She advised the position 'attracted a lot of interest'. Which I translate to mean a VERY high volume of applicants. So I consider it an honor that my resume was considered in that the position is related to my current role but also very different.

Second, the job is in a different time zone: I am MST (Arizona, which does not follow Daylight Savings, so basically is PST) and the company is in EST. Have no idea how this will work out in terms of onboarding and eventual work schedule...

Right now spending the weekend preparing for the interview. Rehearsing answers to anticipated interview questions and preparing several questions of my own. Of course, I will not be in a position to make an informed decision until going on the interview itself.

Well, good news to report. Got the interview scheduled for Thursday afternoon. We'll see how it goes. All I can do at this point in moving ahead is to continue to prepare- anticipate the correct interview questions and have answers ready. Currently reading a good book about job interview strategy in addition to doing a lot of online research.

Basically, it is an honor that the recruiter values my skills and experience enough to forward my resume to the hiring manager. As for the interview itself, I see it as 'filling in the blanks' or 'connecting the dots' in terms of formulating the correct answers to interview questions and making the right impression with the manager.

To be honest, I am not feeling any nerves whatsoever but rather a sense of calm in approaching the interview. Just want to act naturally and let the answers to questions flow and not come across rehearsed (or as if reading from a script of canned answers obtained via Google).

I am also feeling elated and excited. As a matter of fact, the below video sums up my feelings best- pump your first and 'Yeah!':

I don't know exactly what's gonna happen now, but know something is good about to happen. Prayed a bunch and believe God gave me some insight on what to do next. It's time to think big, and stop being small minded.

Now I see jobs as what they are, rather than why I want them. Does that make sense?

I remember my job interview took about 2 hours (seemed like to me) as my now employer was doing all the talking. He likes to talk. I just had to sit there and listen. what a relief. lol

Sorry to hear about what happened. Letting you go after one month is harsh, particularly for a management position. The department in which I work hired a new manager late last year, so only a month is not enough time for a new manager to get two feet on the ground. It took our new manager roughly 3 to 4 months to begin to get up to speed and thought she did especially well since everyone is working remotely and has not been in the same room with any of her employees.

That said, in your situation I caution patience because from everything I have read there is expected to be a high volume of resignations once the pandemic begins to subside. So who knows what type of unique and exciting opportunities that might open up. Hang in there- you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I want to give everyone an update regarding my situation. Specifically, I interviewed exactly one month ago and...
sadly have heard nothing (I have not even been contacted by the recruiter). As a result, I am safe to assume the manager hired another candidate.

That said, nothing ventured; nothing gained. Onward and upwards from this point.

As for interview, keep in mind this was my first job interview in 14 years, so it would be sufficient to suggest my interview skills are rusty. On one hand, I did not exactly ace the interview but did not bomb it either. Did OK answering most questions but swung and missed on a couple (in hindsight I could have provided better answers).

I see it as a beginning or a stepping stone to other interviews I might have in the coming future.

Side note: I do not fault the recruiter for not contacting me. With so many people out of work as a result of the health crisis, I am sure recruiters are flooded with applications and it is not possible to get back to everyone.
