It isn't a requirement, and this is why a person can receive Christ while on the side of Mt. Everest, perhaps even moments before they die. And it is the same for the person in the middle of the desert. The Lord grants His Grace, Mercy, and Compassion upon anyone He so chooses, and He can exercise this Grace where ever we are. This Grace is given independently of drinking grape juice.
Your goal is not to partake in communion, but it is to receive the Spiritual Circumcision of Christ. Once you have this Curse removed from your thinking process, Spiritual things become more clear and obvious, such as the Eunuch stating, "Look! There is some water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
