As a parent to 5 children, there is a lot of laundry to do. Fortunately, my oldest does her own laundry now.

But, for the other 4...SOCKS!!

There are so many socks without partners anymore. I can buy a pack of socks for one of them and within 2 weeks there are missing ones.

So, I have started to pair socks together that originally didn't go together.
There might be a short white one that will get paired with a long white one or vice versa.

I will pair a black one with yellow stripes with a black one with some other color stripes.

I don't consider myself OCD, but for someone that is, I bet this could be highly annoying.

I get annoyed that they disappear and the kids can't get them where they belong.

I can only guess what it is like to parent five children. For your work and sacrifice you have my deep appreciation. I cant even keep my own white socks straight!

I can quite understand, Krumbeard. I told my boys, i barely use socks now.. so have to deal w/ my husband's.. But when the boys do not match theirs, it can be a headache seeing so many pairless! I dont say we're rich... but is it the abundance of some things? As i have many siblings, would sometimes darn mine which may even be hand-me-downs! I dont remember having so many socks to sort in my childhood=).

Was it Blain here who posted on lost socks and different pairs of unmatched socks way back?

Therein lies another mystery about socks. Recently I have had some "imposter" socks show up. Not just one pair, or should I say two socks, but several pairs of socks. No one seems to know where they came from.

A while ago I bought 24 pairs of comfortable black socks. They go with anything, on the job, at church or at home, and I don't have to match any more blankety-blank socks ever again!

Therein lies another mystery about socks. Recently I have had some "imposter" socks show up. Not just one pair, or should I say two socks, but several pairs of socks. No one seems to know where they came from.

I can suggest a reason. The kids were playing, all kicked off their shoes and socks, and when they put them back on they grabbed the wrong socks. Some other kids probably have your kids' socks.

It is strange indeed how that happens.

And having all the same socks would be nice. But...all those different sized feet!

Mom of eight? That's admirable! It amazes me how you can manage the chaos, I struggled with 2.

I threw out a single sock, my favourite, after a couple of years. When I moved house, I found the other sock under the washing machine. Now I know where they like to hide. I put all my socks in a washbag. They can't undo the zip so they cannot escape. It works, unless I forget to close the zip. So far, I've not lost a sock.

That happens EVERY TIME I finally toss a sock! It mysteriously reappears!

Well, I'm not nearly as patient as I dreamed I would be pre-kids but everyone helps out and my husband takes the reigns at bedtime so I can have a few moments of sanity. Lol

I always wanted a big family. There are hard days, for sure, but I wouldn't trade this chaotic-good life for anything. 😁

That has a solution. Get every person a different color. His are the white with red stripes at the top, that kid has all socks with green stripes at the top, etc.

Occasionally one sock might go missing, but every sock that kid owns has green stripes just like every other sock he has, so it won't even be missed.

Also does am I the only one who, when taking off clothes, doesnt automatically fold them neatly and puts them back in the drawer. Or puts them in a hamper. Cos I might wear them again the next day (if not too smelly) . Digging them out if a hamper just seems like going through a rubbish bin.

Or do you have rods or hooks to hang up your going to be wearing clothes. As opposed to your wardrobe clothes that are clean and laundered. And how many clothes must one person have until they get overwhelemd with sorting through them all.

Its the outerwear that I find it hard to sort though because when it does get put away its folded or hung up. I dont really fold smalls. My favourite part of laundry is hanging out things to dry. Its like decorating the line.

I hate cleaning bathroom though. I wish there was an easier way. Its scrubbing the ring round the bath Thta I dont like, and because my eyesight is bad I dont always see dirt.

There are 10 of us in my family. Me, husband, and 8 kids. So lots of laundry and everyone hates to match socks so that part often gets "forgotten" until someone is desperate for socks.

Wearing 2 different socks (at any one time) is the sign of a genius, I wouldn't discourage it, nor encourage it, just "press on regardless."
