I threw out a single sock, my favourite, after a couple of years. When I moved house, I found the other sock under the washing machine. Now I know where they like to hide. I put all my socks in a washbag. They can't undo the zip so they cannot escape. It works, unless I forget to close the zip. So far, I've not lost a sock.
A WASHBAG!!!!!
WHY didn't I ever think of that??????? Sounds so much simpler than what I have (attempted) been doing all these years...... matching them BEFORE washing then safety pin them together. Somehow the safety pin comes undone in the wash and then they STILL end up mismatched (assuming I matched them right to begin with ) or missing.
When my kiddos were tiny tots we went with the character socks in hopes that it would help keep them from pulling their socks off at random times ( car rides, shopping, etc) but wouldn't you know it, they kept pulling them off anyway. SO, I started playing matchmaker with the single socks. Left foot would host Batman, right foot would host Robin... it worked.
Now I find "sets" in the store that are INTENTIONALLY mismatched and EXPENSIVE............... $5 for 2 MAYBE 3 pairs of socks that INTENTIONALLY have a design on the left foot with a different design for the right. It HAD to be a parent who marketed this.
That happens EVERY TIME I finally toss a sock! It mysteriously reappears!
I tell you what, as my kiddos outgrew those character socks or wore them till they were full of holes I started tossing them out. When we moved a few years ago I was SURE they had ALL been discarded. So why is it that it's been 3 1/2 years since we moved, my kiddos are now tweens, or nearly a tween, nobody has been able to wear them in years and yet random tiny tot size character socks are showing up in my house?????? The mates to sad, lonely socks that I KNOW were worn to shreads and tossed out long ago????? And not only that, but these random missing socks that are suddenly appearing are in like new condition
.
WHERE are they coming from????
I'm telling you... get all socks of one color for each family member and you'll never have the problem again.
this is a genius idea!!!!
There for a while I thought I could eliminate the missing sock problem by buying one mega sized pack of socks for my boys.
Since hubs wears white socks, sis wears girly girl designs, and I opt for ankle cut length or shorter I thought SURELY buying the boys a bunch of black socks would solve all (their) sock delimas...... IT WORKED!!!!! Until one had a growth spurt and his little feet were suddenly to big to share socks with his bro........
Now were back to character socks
to know which pair belongs to who.
