What do you say to people who say the earth is 4.6 billion years old?

I would ask why it has to be that old

Nothing much. Trying to convince people who are beyond reason is pointless.
If you want some suggestions, try these.

The moon is moving away from the earth albeit very slowly. If the earth was that old, the moon would have escaped earth's gravity by now.
Oil and gas were supposedly formed millions of years ago. With the constant earthquakes and natural escape, there should be far less oil and gas than there is now.

This link is interesting:

https://www.icr.org/article/does-radioisotope-dating-prove-an-old-earth/

It goes into why radioactive dating is unreliable.

Another link for the open minded (a rare breed) relates to the most accessible geological history on earth, the Grand Canyon. (I've been there, no superlatives can do it justice.)

I would tell them that the “evidence” for a very old earth is based on unprovable assumptions. For supporting evidence, I would point them to the many videos on the subject from Answers in Genesis.

You are not going to convince a non-believer of a young age earth, but a christian by showing them there were only 77 generations between Adam and Jesus.

No human was around 4.6 Billion Years ago.
But The Creator gave a written outline of his work to man.

I would point them to the flood.

If they do not believe in the global flood. They will never believe in a young earth.

If they do, we can explain the results of the flood make the earth appear older. And that it affects things like carbon dating.

These people need 4.6 billion years since they believe slime plus time equals life

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. ~NIV

But then again, some people put billions of years between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 to fill an imaginary gap between the two verses

I do not see why it matters anyways. So would probably just ask why it is supposedly 5 billion years old, and how that is proven. Then they say something about carbon13, and I ask how it can be so pinpointed to decades millions of years ago. They kind of shortcircuit after that, because they just parrot. I never believed in that accuracy as an atheist either. Then ask what does it matter how old the earh is, does not change anything for the human life. At this point, is just a thing to mock christians with, for them to feel good about themselves. Just ask them why it matters, and they have no reply or try to improvise some nonsense that is most often a big lie, easily picked apart.

Amen

God created earth for Mankind. So you would expect that when mankind was placed on the earth, it would be fully capable of supporting him.

God is capable. If he wanted to do it in a few days, Who are we to argue.

However. this is not a salvation issue. So I try not to argue anyway.

I'd say the only reliable way to measure the age of something is by observing the formation it.
Yes, but what about relative age dating. Rocks are laid horizontally. The top layer of rocks has to be younger then the bottom layer
of rocks, assuming they haven't been turned upside down by tectonic forces. And what about the fact of the different rock types that exist within that layer and how each one was formed. There may be sedimentary rocks below igneous rocks below metamorphic rocks each indicating a different geological period. Another difficult point to ignore are the fossils within those layers and how they disappeared within the next layer. Wouldn't it take millions of years to form all of this? And why and how did all the life forms disappear from one layer to the next?

I think it does matter if you want to find the truth. And there are many methods beyond Carbon dating that indicate the age of something. If God gave us the intellectual ability to use science to find out about the world around us, why do we disagree with the the field evidence?
