I know that there Is the book by John that says

1 John 1:9
King James Version
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

+++

I think this scripture Is talking about coming to CHRIST and not talking about a person needs to continually ask to be forgiven after salvation.

Ok, so, just wondering here, why did Jesus teach this?

Matthew, Chapter 6:

9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11Give us this day our daily bread.

12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I guess He really didn't mean this, huh?

Well I am not a Calvinist and believe in free will. I believe the scriptures that speak on the warnings of falling away and apostasy. I believe it is possible for people to taste of forgiveness but can walk away.

We also have scriptures on lukewarm Christians.
Have you believed the gospel given to Paul by Christ ? 1 Corinthians 15:3,4.

As long as sin is present there will be need for repentence. Only when we are face to face with the Lord is there no need.

Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
22Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
16If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. 17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

In your view, how often can someone genuinely repent and still be repentance and not disingenuous?

I mean, if someone changes their mind and ways then a few days later misses the mark again, repents, has a few good days, misses the mark again then is that real repentance?
believe it or not, that is often the behavior of many Christians

and there are various reasons for it....one big one being BIG lack of proper teaching and ignoring any spiritual factors

so are these people saved? some are in agony with sin cycle and yes they are saved...not talking about those with a casual approach to Christianity

changing the mind is not really a biblical term. the actual description in scripture would be 'renewing them mind', meaning to agree with the word and acting that out. an interesting study for some might be to check out how habits are formed and the fact that a person can create better habits following that pattern

but Christians also have a big advantage with the indwelling Spirit of God and the ability to pray

Do you believe that it is possible to walk consistently according to the Spirit?
Jesus did. He never sinned which is why He was able to be the perfect sacrifice...the sinless Lamb of God, who died for our sins

Jesus alone was sinless while on this earth. He is our High Priest ... the final priest ...and He offered Himself up

11Now if perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on this basis the people received the law), why was there still need for another priest to appear—one in the order of Melchizedek and not in the order of Aaron? 12For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed as well.

13He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, a tribe as to which Moses said nothing about priests.

15And this point is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16one who has become a priest not by a law of succession, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17For it is testified:

“You are a priest forever

in the order of Melchizedek.”

18So the former commandment is set aside because it was weak and useless 19(for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

20And none of this happened without an oath. For others became priests without an oath, 21but Jesus became a priest with an oath by the One who said to Him:

“The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind:

‘You are a priest forever.’ ”

22Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

When we sin and that sin is not forgiven it kills.
the sin is forgiven. the relationship with God suffers as does the one who remains in sin

some people assert OSAS and others believe a person can loose salvation

it is good to keep tabs on ourselves and a clear conscience

Yes, entire sanctification is obtainable ...already proven in the life of Enoch, Daniel, Job ...In Bible
are you an advocate for sinless perfection? if so, where does the Bible teach this?

to be clear, I do not believe the Bible teaches this, let alone that a person born on this earth can reach sinlessness

where do we read that those men were sinless? I think you are extrapolating here. you just said ALL Christians are a work in progress...is it all then, or most?

I believe that it is healthy for the Christian who is a work-in-progress, to strive for perfection; and also to believe that the goal of entire sanctification is obtainable.
yes, you have said that you believe that, but why are you striving when Christ has you covered?

you are not saved by works and your salvation through Christ is not improved by your works

walking in the Spirit is something we are told to do, but teaching that seems to be lacking in many places, but you cannot improve on the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.

your personal goal is not biblical and you cannot show that from scripture because it is simply not there...as many in this thread are currently trying to show you, while you stubbornly continue on with your premise

The GLORY of GOD is displayed more in the life of the repented sinners than the life of righteous persons with no need for repentant

Blessed be to our Creator the Savior
sorry to bug you again, but do you know people who are so righteous they do not need a Savior?

they must be living on the moon

The word repentance is not defined by the word perfection. Whey do you bring this up, it is adding a completely new idea to scripture. Repentance has to do with wanting to be perfect, not achieving perfection. That is only done through the gift Christ gives us.
ummmm

don't you understand that for sanctification to be perfect on this earth they would indeed have to be perfect?

that's why he brings it up and he correct to do so

repentance is not wanting to be perfect. not even close. it is desiring to turn from sin and turn towards Christ who ALONE is perfect

the gift of God through our Lord Jesus Christ is salvation....not perfection. we are only perfect IN Christ...that is our position IN Him...we are never perfect outside of Him.

I don't why people just do not seem to grasp this simple concept

If someone did reach sinless perfection ,then God would have to share his throne

There is only one safe place.

John illustrated it by putting his head on Jesus breast.

even Jesus does not share that throne

I mean what is up with this perfection nonsense? talk about deception

folks just cooly and calmly insisting you can be perfect...just strive...just work you little butt off....just believe and you will get there

sounds like the penitent Catholic priest flogging himself in medieval times

end of mini rant

That is not an answer to the question. If you have not obeyed the gospel given to Paul by Christ, you are still lost.
