Interesting feedback :)

Then you have youtube videos such as these:

YouTube - JULIAN SMITH - 25 Things I Hate About Facebook

and a bit more 'serious' -
this one
YouTube - Facebook - CIA Profile Database

and THENNNNN you have mainstream media telling you how to 'secure privacy' on FB. :) do you actually believe them? (5 day old video)

YouTube - Facebook Privacy

Good post, silverwind. I think a lot of people missed the Palo Alto reference in The Social Network. It should be taken far more seriously.

Facebook is EVIL and Zuckerberg is probably the anti-christ. Its sounds ridiculous but here are some facts to support it:

- a film about Facebook rose to the top of the movie scene
- Zuckerberg is a young billionaire who admits to selling YOUR personal information to businesses so he can make money off it
- Once you join Facebok, you CANNOT un-join it.
- Facebook is in the process of developing its own real currency which they hope will be used worldwide.
- Facebok has been cited in 1 out of every 5 divorce cases in the US
- Over 500 million are now on FB and the number is growing quickly

How much longer before no one can buy or sell without having a facebook account?
I opened an account a few months ago when CC was down. It has its benefits, but I'm beginning to regret it.

Well, that's the thing. It should be taken far more seriously, especially the private information that is exposed, such as phone numbers, pictures, who you "hang" with,.. etc etc.. seems people don't care much about that anymore. Mind you, when you are born, you are already "in the system".
There is a way to delete the account on Facebook. It takes a bit of search through the "help" menu and you can delete it within 14 days. Might be something to consider..... hmmm

A link recently circulated about 'why you should close facebook'.
It would be interesting to hear some opinions from a Christian's perspective as to WHY so many people are addicted to facebook and is it truely a necessity in the world of technology and global connections?
How is it affecting YOU, are you benefiting from it, or has it had negative influence on your family life or friendships? Do you feel safe using it?

Does that mean you stopped using fb, selenah?

I have never met a teen who closed facebook, they usually just deleted us older folks ;) (my nieces and nephews are a good example of that)

Hi NoahsMom :)

I'm not criticizing anyone who uses it; Just wanna make people aware that there is no privacy whatsoever if you use it. I have an account, but I don't do much on it. I don't have 500 friends (or aquaintances) nor do I post things that tell everyone what I"m doing or where I am. Sometimes I shut it down for periods of time and when I come back I realize I missed an "invite" that was for all the relatives for a birthday party. No one uses the phone anymore, lol. ANyway, I would welcome the face to face connection but can't find it anymore.

I used to be on facebook several times a day when I first joined and thought it was really cool, but now I realize its just an outlet for moms with cute kids and popular 20 somethings who crave attention. I would close my account if it weren't for a couple of people on there that I really don't want to lose touch with.

Im really weird about who Im friends with, and sadly its how I stay in touch with some family members, like you voiced, ppl dont call, come by anymore etc. I have noticed ppl post WAY too much personal information on those things, addresses, work places, cell numbers....SCAREY. As with most anything now days, use CAUTION.

I just realized today that my full name appears to everybody on facebook. I changed my full name to 'Juno Myname' because I don't have any friends on there who don't know my first and last name.

I'm convinced that facebook is a much more sinister program than it is presented as. When it first became big I was suspicious of it and had a number of theories of what would happen as time progressed if it was indeed sinister. I have noticed that facebook no longer allows the users to advance themselves or their projects in any way but still sucks up all of your information. If it was legit it would not demand that "you should only message or friend this person if you actually know them". This shows facebook wants to map you and the creators get angry that you might have hundreds of bogus random friends that get in the way of their mapping. I laugh at people who say they are careful with who they let see their information because the facebook owners can't be limited and are way more dangerous than the average user reading info. I also doubt that Mark Zuckerberg is the actual owner and think it was rather created by the government or more likely the architects of a world government and Zuckerberg is more of a fictional character presented to take the edge off of it.

Unfortunately I find that everything is set up to make everyone join and use facebook. I would like to say that I am smart enough to withhold information but I think facebook outsmarts the users and achieves the functions of the coming totalitarian government very well.

This new deal about connecting your financial info to your Facebook account makes me believe this all the more, persecuted. Scary stuff indeed. Especially since Facebook accounts never really go away.

Big brother is watching that's for sure, and I'm sure that the powers that be have a lot more influence in this country than we can even imagine...

I believe you are right.
The question is, what should we as Christians do? Just go along with the flow?

I don't think so because we're supposed to refuse the mark of the beast when the rest of the world accepts it. Oh no, do you think a FB account might be the mark of the beast?!?
