I think it's another symptom of a corrupt world. Not the homosexuality itself (that's a sin like any other), but the way people disregard it and want others to ignore it completely.

What do you want to say about earthquakes and tsunamis?
 
That maybe we should pour more energy and money into helping the victims of those rather than rant at people for falling in love with someone of the same gender.

I don't know, I thought the queers liked the attention? They're always going on marches and stuff.

But on a serious note, you have a point. Ranting at folk doesn't often bear fruit. However, serious debate and discussion about homosexuality does have its place, in my opinion. And it's quite possible to both give aid to the needy and still participate in these discussions.

I agree with you guys. We're a bit too homo-crazy. Although some churches are into gay clergy now and are preaching this nonsense about being gay not really being a sin. Perhaps everyone else is just trying to counteract it? lol

My church leans a bit older. We don't really talk about gays. All we ever talk about is evolution and eeeeevil scientists lol

i disagree with a person being born gay. God calls homosexuality an abomination and all children are created by him in the womb. would he create something that was an abomination to him? i dont think so.

Im sure black people liked the attention too.... they were always going on marches as well. Honestly can't think of any good reasons why though.

All this talk of hate isn't going to want them to learn more about Jesus Christ. It isn't going to make them feel his love and want to understand, want to change.
You don't tell an addict, hey, I hate you, you're going to hell, nothing you do will change it, but change what you're doing anyway. No, we don't because we tell them about forgiveness. So why don't we do that for homosexuals?
It's not our place to condemn.

You shouldn't just say 'queers' like that. That's borderline hate speech, and no matter how you feel, that's not okay.

If you think that people aren't born gay, but turn into gay during their life (or even more ridiculous: tell themselve they're gay), you are misleading yourself and need some lessons biology. Falling in love or find someone sexually attractive simply has to do with pheromones: little chemical factors in your head. You cannot control them.

Not totally accurate.

Attraction can be based on a multitude of factors.

While I do think some people are born gay, or at least have obvious 'differences' from near birth, I don't think every homosexual is that way because they can't help it or something. There is really no denying that sexual confusion can lead to homosexuality and that sexual confusion can be caused by a number of things.

I thing you must be substituting your incorrect interpretation for my actual intent. I honestly have little idea where you're getting your 'borderline hate speech' idea from. Heck, I barely even know what that means, but for the record, there was not one iota of hate from end.

I think physical sexual confusion can make it complex. Like when a child is born with both genitalia, how do they know what they choose is homosexuality?

'Queer' is generally considered offensive to the homosexual community, which makes it hate speech. If you don't mean it in a hateful way, don't say it. Btw, I realize I might sound rude through text, but I'm not trying to be, promise it. I'm just sayin'.


And for everyone with their 'born that way' explanation, we're all born a lot of 'ways' that aren't okay.
If you're saying homosexuals are born attracted to the same sex, that would insinuate that pedophiles are born attracted to children. Which isn't okay, right?
So, that reasoning is invalid, unless you want to argue that it's okay to be a pedophile...

Well, I'm afraid I completely disagree with that whole approach to language. I believe the meaning of language is governed predominantly by the intention of the speaker. Just because someone, or a group of persons may happen to find X word offensive, does not ipso facto make its usage 'hate speech' (consider the logical consequences of such a position - almost all communication would be rendered 'hate speech' since someone will always be offended by our choice of words).

I know you're not trying to be rude, and neither am I when I say I don't feel I should have to defend myself any further. We may just have to agree to disagree on this one.

While I understand your point of view I have to disagree with you. There's a saying, "It's not what you say, it's what people hear." While the speaker does have some power when it comes to words, he has to recognize that if his intended message comes across as something else to the listeners it may be time for a change in approach. And I do agree with Honey, "queer" is not a friendly word when referring to homosexuals and there really is no good reason to use it no matter your intent. There are people who find it offensive so why use it?

Honestly, I've never encountered anyone in my day to day life who finds it offensive. I don't know, maybe it's another cultural divide between our two countries (as seems to be the case with the 'N' word to refer to coloured folk; again, no one I know in real life is offended or shocked by it, but I've learned I can't go near it on the internet when Americans are about).
 
It would seem to me that offensiveness is not enough to constitute hate speech. It might ruffle feathers, but I just don't see the justifying line. Ephesians 4:29 would be important to keep in mind.
 
Not all offensive things are hate speech. But every time I've heard someone use 'queer', they've meant in a hateful, demeaning way, so it's what I associate it with. I guess it's different in other countries...

hate speech Legal Definition:

Speech not protected by the First Amendment, because it is intended to foster hatred against individuals or groups based on race, religion, gender, sexual preference, place of national origin, or other improper classification.

now as to weather someone takes it offensively or not is up to each person.
