This is a fairly new thing.
Jobs are plentiful but there is a shortage of available talent to work them.

Food service industries especially. Plenty of people wanting to eat at a restaurant but very few willing to work in one.

And it's an issue I'm facing as soon I will have some jobs to offer. Reasonable wages as well. But I've been hearing the same thing over and over again.
No staff to hire. None that are hired will work. Everyone wants more pay because they can't afford to live otherwise.

So.
What do we do?

Some jobs (like food service) never did pay that much to begin with because people don't want to pay "outrageous" prices for food served to them. (Especially if it isn't great)

What do you think?
Everyone wants "more" even though there isn't "more".

And I'm not sure how to solve this.

I don't know that you [can] solve this. It seems that by Government raising wages so that even a burger flipper can buy a home, this forces small business owners like yourself out of business . . . thus, you become dependent upon the government. Government knows what it's doing to us. These are, at least theoretically, the most edumacated people we have, so we know full-well that they understand the consequences of forcing high wages to unskilled workers.

Seems to me that you would have to change the quality of food you offer, or, change the structure of the business . . . like converting to a buffet-style where there are fewer workers. Another option is to perform part of the work yourself, thus eliminating an entire paycheck from your payroll. This way you'd keep the $2000 plus per month.

Tough spot the government has put you in. I'm sorry to hear this.

The American government is pushing toward socializing the economy with the goal of making the United States communist. Socialism can't survive without a working class and the majority of people won't want to work if they can be a do-nothing beneficiary and pursue other life goals instead. So the end goal is to actually collapse the United States economy. It's unthinkable that the United States can be defeated with military power, but if you can convince them to destroy themselves through poor governmental decisions then destruction by peaceful means is just as effective. I give the USA maybe another 10-15 years before it's the wild west, again, in a more general sense.

I don't know if it's refreshing to hear that someone else realizes we're actually slaves to the government or if it's depressing that my view of reality is being confirmed by someone else. Either way, you're spot on.

This is why I constantly call for us all to be good and kind to each other. We cannot defeat the government, or even World Government, until we learn to respect one another. When we respect one another, we will defeat government. When we learn to love, evil will be defeated.

When I returned dto the US for a time, I was getting bored being retired in a condo, so, Iwent to work.
This was in 1995. Already the change was in effect. The employees there were being treated like beasts of burden.
We needed the manager to "buzz us into te bathroom>"
He would make people wait. One day I needed to go and he tried it on me. I informed him if he ever tried it again, I would simply go home to use my own.
Another of his favorite tricks was to make all the employees remain while he finished up tallying what was accomplished for the day.
He did this with me; I called him on my cell and informed him if he did not let us all leave immediately I was going to call the police and have him charged with illegal sequester. He never did this again.
It was my understanding that at certain companies, chain companies, they actually told elder to where adult diapers if they could not hold it. Not only is this a humiliating, unhuman, manner to treat our fellows, it is, was, illegal.
It was not the USA I had been living in previous to my first return to the US Sham on America.

People deserve a proper pay for proper work, and that was always the case in my America. Today people will not take a job that will not pay them to care for their families, therefore, there are definitely a lot of jobs availed but they do not pay as it is written, a worker is worthy of his wages.

If you are willng to pay a decent wage, someone will work for you, but if you are part of some kind of caste system lording it over mankind, you do not deserve good employees.

I get this fom Jesus and His Word, not from Karl Marx. I am not political, just wanting all to be fair.

I have not looked at the details.

Nope...
We went to the SBA for a line of credit for operational costs....not capitalization....it was a huge waste of time after the financial colonoscopy.

Outrageous costs all the way around. We have a unique and detailed Business Plan. We spent weeks on it. That should have been more than sufficient to detail why we wanted the money.

But we are getting a new bank to see if that will help.

What we are doing is not a unique concept. It's a common business that is in short supply in our area. We have created a lot of efficiencies where there are usually not any.

Several of those efficiencies is in the labor we use. And even still we are running into issue after issue with finding labor and credit.

Equipment is also a herculean task. New equipment is 30 weeks out from ordering with no guarantees. Used equipment is selling for ridiculous prices with no guarantees of it working or getting parts to make it work.

Just getting people to answer the phone or returning an email is proving to be difficult.

When I read the first post I thought to myself, "I can see where this is going to get political real fast. People are going to find it very easy to use this as a springboard for complaining about the government."

If you lived any closer I would probably put in an application. Going from your posts on the forum, it would probably be a blast working for you.

If you ever move down to Southwest Tennessee and set up shop, do let me know. I, for one, did not quit my job during the Great resignation. In fact I'm on lunch break right now.

There's nothing like learning what the original done well looks and tastes like.

Take chocolate chip cookies...
People are used to that cookie Subway puts out and if you are used to scratch cookies...that subway chocolate chip cookie tastes bad.

The work I got isn't exactly glamorous...it's work for low pay...but it's honest and fair. Might as well not be a jerk to the staff. They are going to be our most valuable resource.

are they offering accomodation as well?

If so, great, but if not, they'll find it hard to find workers. Accomodation is a HUGE expense. Plus with virus going round, do you want it spreading when you eat out. No, unless you totally deny there is that as well.

Hygiene is important.

I dont think lots of people want to eat at restaurants. Unless you live in a world where you eat out everyday, for most people its a treat or special occasion since its so expensive.

The problem with real versus commercially convenient food is, so many people have become so accustomed to the fake stuff that they think it is normal. Ever try to feed a bowl of homemade pudding to somebody who has grown up on the instant junk? They hate it! They think it's weird and gross and just totally wrong.

The other thing with restauarant work is the hours. You are giving up meal time with your OWN family to provide meals for someone else.

Its a lot of work to prep, cook, serve and then clean up. if you didnt have to go home again and do the same thing for your own family then it could work.

when worked in retail for 4 hour shift we were given only ten minutes break which is barely enough time to sit down and go to the loo

had to survive on pies (quick and easy to eat) or eat outside my shift because no way would the boss give you anymore time. But you do need sustanence cos you on your feet the entire time.

IMHO, you should pay a living wage or close your business and find someone who will pay you a living wage.
