With respect, I disagree with you. There are several scriptures that say, and also indicate that the Spirit was received at water baptism.

I don't remember any scriptures that tell us of anyone receiving the Spirit that had NOT been baptized... I could be wrong, but I don't remember any instances of that....
Correction made to my Post #1060

Water baptized but NOT Holy Spirit Baptized.

To attack or deny the Baptism of the Holy Spirit comes from unbelief and/or the spirit of error.
It's easy to say someone has a spirit of error, a religious spirit or a Leviathan spirit. Pretty convenient.

On the contrary, it is not easy to say this when you love God and your neighbor.
For how can we say we love God who we cannot see and hate our brother who we can see...........

We are all born in sin and even after our New Birth we only see thru a glass dimly (the scriptures).

Only One is PERFECT and when HE, the PERFECT Comes, and we are 'Face to Face' with HIM, then that which is childish will no longer be needed.

Today, dear brother RA, faith hope and love still remains and the greatest of these is love = Therefore.......

Therefore, brother RA the Spirit says this to you: Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification, exhortation, and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but the one who prophesies edifies the church. Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but rather that you would prophesy; and greater is the one who prophesies than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edification.

This is how I see it. Of course, none of this can be "proven".
1. There are people that have been born-again (saved) with water baptism.
2. There are people that have been baptized that were not Saved.
3. There are those that have never spoken in "tongues" that are Saved.
4. There are those that have spoken in "tongues" that were not Saved.

Therefore, the acts of water-baptism and speaking in tongues are NOT indicators of salvation.
They do NOT demonstrate anything.
If you believe that Jesus Christ died to pay the price of your sins, AND you repent those sins,
THEN JUST SAY IT! I'll be more convinced by your word.

IMO water-baptism was a precursor to Holy Spirit baptism. That was demonstrated by John and Jesus.
Water baptism had been practiced for many years prior to Jesus, just like animal sacrifice. Apostles carried on that ritual as a tradition but never cast it as required. I think many times when baptism is mentioned it actually refers to Holy Spirit and not Water.
As for "tongues": the purpose, and use, was so the Gospel could be communicated to someone unfamiliar with the giver's language.
It was also to edify the Apostles to spread the gospel throughout many cultures. It is a gift to be used, not for "Show".
Like the other "gifts of the spirit", it is much rarer than we are led to believe (and more useful).

I believe my own music ability to be akin to a "gift of the spirit". I struggled (and still do) to use it for its intended purpose to Praise God and to draw others closer, instead of for my own, carnal benefit.

Peace be to you all.

What chapter and verse is this? please.

You probably shouldn't call me brother.

You have a excellent and true understanding in your Post except for the "tongues purpose".

Just adjust your sights on 1 Cor ch14 and you will be spot on Brother.

Begins in 1 Cor 14:1 and continues thru the entire chapter.

Where did you find the birth/time/season of Isaiah???
Luke 1:26 shows that the messenger came to Mary in the 6th month. (not her 6th month of pregnancy)
The other was Isaac (not Isaiah) but Gen 21 doesn't identify the time of the messenger. You would have to go to the book of Jubilees (the 3rd most found book in Qumran) to see that Isaac, like Jesus, was born around the 3rd month.

No such thing as Apocrypha. It's either scripture or it's not. Test all things. Don't take the so-called scholars' word for it. They have an agenda.

O

I was water-baptized by Pentecostals in 1975. They were perplexed when I didn't speak in tongues. I felt like I was a disappointment.
In 2000, while at a retreat, and alone in my room, a tongue of fire flew into my chest, I shook a lot, and tongues burst out of my mouth.
That's the facts, Jack!

So I read the chapter.
It sounds like Paul is telling people NOT to speak in tongues in church unless it is interpreted.

9 So you too, unless you produce intelligible speech by the tongue, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will just be talking to the air.

I have to play actual chords and notes on my instrument for any musical benefit to anyone.

Amen to you for your benefit and Testimony!
Don't do it in church, though, if you can help it.

ACTS 10

The gentiles had not been water baptized when they received the Holy Spirit.
Yes, that is correct, but it is my understanding that this was a "one-off" event, specifically to prove to the Jewish Christians that the Gentiles were as deserving as the Jewish ones were.... until then, many of the Jewish Christians did not accept that Gentiles were called, as well. This one-time event was to vividly demonstrate that they were.. The Jewish Christians didn't even want the Gentiles to be allowed to be baptized, so God filled them with the Spirit to PROVE to the Jewish Christians that they were accepted...
"Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?”
it never happened again... at least to my knowledge.

To try to set this as some kind of proof that anyone can receive the Spirit without baptism would be akin to saying that every time someone is baptized, a dove will come down and light on them, showing that the Spirit has entered... it happened once, as a visual demonstration...

1 Cor ch14 covers all we need to know of tongues beginning with the fact that tongues is not a known human language.

i love how the Holy Spirit corrects the misuse of chapter 13 which ends with "now these three remain....", by immediately correcting that error in the very next sentence, 1 Cor 14:1, which is a continuation of the same subject matter at hand.

"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God. Indeed, no one understands him;
he utters mysteries in the Spirit. "

How Beautiful is that unto God!!!

Which is why the LORD orchestrated this exactly the way HE did - God knowing the hearts of men and the wayward heart of religion.

Dwell on this, let it sink deep into your heart and mind: Every doctrinal error of man was foreknown by the LORD and is addressed/corrected in His word.
