who are the ones that do not know what they are doing?
Acts chapter 3

[12] And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
[13] The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
[14] But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
[15] And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
[16] And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
[17] And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
[18] But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.

my question is, exactly who is He forgiving?
who are the ones that do not know what they are doing?
Jesus is not forgiving anyone; He is asking the Father to forgive them and in order for the Father to do that they have to ask and if they do Jesus has already said it is ok for them to be forgiven.

Hey, posthuman.

May I ask exactly what these people were forgiven of?

Was it simply their ignorance ("they know not what they do") in relation to Christ's crucifixion?

Was it that and something more?

Was it something altogether different?

I'm guessing that you're referring to the first option, but I just want to make sure that I understand what you believe.

Thanks for any clarification.
hmm i think ignorance is why he forgives them, not what they are forgiven of.
essentially what they are forgiven of is rejecting God - Who is manifest in the flesh in the person of Jesus.
they are rejecting Him so hard! trying to murder Him. just as the Antichrist will in the last days - tho he will do so knowing exactly what he is doing, and knowing his futility. his ultimate aim will be to destroy as many people as possible

because no one takes Jesus's life from Him; He lays it down and takes it up again. He is God incarnate, and is in complete control of exactly when, where, and how His crucifixion takes place. we shouldn't forget :)

i think that with regards to 'who' there are a couple of answers that fit:
  • Rome - at least the centurions who crucified Him, and then believed, saying, no one has ever died like this man; surely He was the Son of God
  • Israel - Israel in general, not in specific. certain Israelites ((as a few posts have pointed out)) knew from the signs he performed that He must be Messiah but rejected Him anyway, and sought to kill Him. others believed, and still others believed later. Israel as a nation however, could be who He is forgiving - because Israel as a nation did not know what they were doing, being blinded ((some scripture has already been pointed out; i would add Romans 10-11 to that mix :)))

the man Christ Jesus is the Almighty God, the LORD, the Ancient of Days hidden in humanity.
when He prayed it was for our benefit: He is our example.
without controversy, this is a great mystery: God was manifest in flesh

Seriously?

How in the world did you come up with this? You DO KNOW that one or more of the Disciples carry swords, right?

No, a sword is not a gun, but they didn't have guns at the time, and a sword was quite a deadly weapon........even able to cut off ears

Anyway, this is all moot.........because that has to be the worst interpretation of a Scripture I have ever read here on CC.
How come you don’t see that this verse says that Christians should not carry any guns? This is so odd.
In this verse we see God incarnate saying that He even forgives the people who are killing Him.
In another verse Jesus said that if He wanted to attack a group of people He could have called down armies of Angels but He didn’t.

But on another verse that you picked it says that apostles carry swords.
Does this mean that the Bible is contradictory ?
What say you?

I know that. God is God, He is the Son and He is the Holy Spirit. Jesus left the Father came to earth born of woman walked as a man yet without sin was put to death, raised from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of God. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost to guide us, teach us, Etc. All 3 different all one.
