Sorry if I missed something, but could you perhaps mention what happened as a result of not giving that person the money? and why did the husband have a bad feeling? what was the person needing money for?

I do not know the details of what the person's exact need was. I do know that the woman who went through this now feels that the primary issue was not giving money to this person (the person managed without her help), but whether or not she would respect her husband's final ruling and not go behind his back, etc.

I know it's a tough call but it was not a life or death situation... and I agree with you completely, Pheonix--sometimes, helping a person isn't really helping them--it's enabling someone to do wrong, and that can be a sin as well.

In this particular case, I do know that my mentor is now as peace with having let her husband have the final say.

The thing is too, even if he was wrong--if it's not a life and death situation and if our husband isn't asking us to do wrong, he is accountable to God for his decision, whether right or wrong. If a husband prevents his wife from doing something that God asked her to do, God will hold him responsible.

But, we also have to remember that our example is Jesus--Jesus chose to be obedient and submissive to His Father--even to the point of death. God the Father asked Him to endure some very unpleasant things while on this earth, even though the Father loved the Son with a perfect love.

So... I sometimes think to myself that, of course, submitting to an authority, even a husband who is supposed to love us, won't always be easy. But, if Jesus is our example... look at what we have to live up to...

I have a view on authority that some have considered... unique. I was raised understanding that respect is earned, not given, And that trust is hard to earn, but easy to destroy. This being said, I discovered that with certain entities, trust and respect are accorded immediately. This being said, I have learned in my life that if you do not draw a line and say "I will not allow this to be crossed" people will simply trample you, and from that I have come to behave as such. If you treat me with respect, I will treat you with respect. I will give a measure of trust to all, but I will scrutinize you as a microbiologist would a newly discovered microbe. Should you give me reason to not trust you, you will be notified, and should you treat me disrespectfully without acceptable reason (and genuine apology) You will suffer my indignation. Basically I will treat anyone with respect until they have given me more than sufficient reason not to, at that point they will CLEARLY know that I have no respect for them or their behavior and if they would like to argue the point I will make it clear WHY.

I think the same....isn't God's authority supposed to be greater than the husband's? Even in marriage. Men and women make mistakes, even being godly men and women.
A wife has to submit to Jesus first, and if the husband is interferring with that, I think God would be pleased to see she submitted to Him even if the husband didn't want to. What do you think seoul?

I don't know I know that if I felt that God lead me to do something and my husband didn't agree I would try and convince him it was from God and my husband would pray about it and either agree or explain why he did not think it was a good idea or give an alternative to help the person. like instead of giving money, give food or clothes or time or some thing else they needed the money for.

My husband would never tell me I couldn't give people food, clothes or time if they are in need of it, because he knows I wouldn't listen . :)

Lol. I came to the conclusion that I'll know how a marriage will work till I'm there. Every marriage is different and every couple make it work in a different way. I suppose me and my future husband( if God send me one) will know how to make it right. With God as our guide, of course.

lol I asked my husband today how good I was at obey/submitting to his authority. He said I wasn't :)

then I asked him if it bothered him and he said no he knew what he was getting when he married me. lol :)

:) I think its best not to pretend you are something you are not and just learn grow into who God wants you to be.

Which doesn't mean you don't change but you should change to suit GOD not other people.

I pray everyone have people (friends, family not just a spouse) who can love them as God loves them: unconditionally, flaws, bad habits and all. :)

I like what your housband said about that. And you are right. We must admit who we are and not hide or pretend to be something else. It's important as a woman, to be a ble to submit but you need to be showing your true self before the marraige. That way he will know who you are and you him. You will know ech others expectations as well as what the other has to offer.

This thread was here near the top yet I see now no one's made a post for long time. That's odd, but I am here and the Lord leads. I read thru most the past posts, starting with Seoul's soulful thread content....

Of all the vote choices, God as authority is where it's at, His authirity is over me, and, Lord-willing, I ever do get married, my authority will be over my wife in a Godly way, full of love and care and nurture and blessing, like God wants and Jesus did on Earth.
----+----
And, here is my verse of choice for UNDERSTANDING 'submission.'

1 Peter 3:7 ~ Husbands, likewise, dwell with them (your wife) with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and, as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. (New King James Versión)

It kept showing in my page too, hmmm is the Lord trying to tell me something ? haha. He has been revealing me how beautiful His authority is, now I understand a little more about it. Thanks for this thread Seoul :) , I know it's old but it was helpful.

How well do you submit to authority, and do you feel this is impacting your readiness for a spouse? Do you feel God may be waiting for you to learn to submit before He sends you "the one", or do you feel this has nothing to do with the fact that you're single?
Hmm, well every case is different and to say that because someone doesn't know yet how to submit to authority is the reason they are still single can be erroneous. God wants us to learn, but he can teach us in different ways. Sometimes relationships start and the couple is not the perfect couple but they learn to grow closer to God together. What's important is that you both have the same vision spiritually, meaning you both want to mature spiritually and in that way you can at same time even help each other. However, sometimes God may also keep you single for the purpose of teaching you submission as you say or just to have a closer relationship with Him. There can be a lot of reasons but when we put our trust in God, we know that it has to be for the best.

----verry well said, needingadvice. TRUST God to take care of things, this goes for both, understanding scripture regarding marriage (Corinthians , etc.)and everything will play out then like a fine fiddle song, played by vKat, of course :D

I'm not very good at it at all unless it's something major (Like I respect police/ambulance workers). Stuff like applying for a permit to build a porch for a house you own though.....screeeew that, that's ridiculous. I disregard things like that.
