that is traced through Joseph....

Is Joseph's Jesus real BIOLOGICAL dad?

it is about the spiritual seed, otherwise Mary would not have been a virgin because the genealogy is traced through JOSEPH not Mary.

does an adopted son make him less beloved or worthy of the promise?
no ananda.
that is NOT joseph's genealogy.
that is Mary's, and hence Christ's human genealogy.

we know Jesus was the Son of GOD, and he was also the Son of Man (through Mary).

but it is VERY MUCH about the physical seed as well, for if Jesus was not fully human, you have no acceptable substitutionary sacrifice for your sins.

it is written being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, because that is how they said IN-LAWS.

when a woman married, her progeny's genealogy was recorded under her husband's name with the phrase we've translated into english as AS WAS SUPPOSED.

Joseph is called the son of Heli, even though Heli was MARY'S FATHER.

this is most assuredly the geneaology of Jesus Christ the Son of Man through Mary, who was the daughter of Heli, ...who was the son of Nathan.... who was the son of David who was the son of Jesse.

this is critical because it absolutely records for all time the lineage to King David (and in fact all the way to Adam). if the Holy Spirit decided it was important to record the bloodline of the Son of Man, we need to know it.

Luke 3
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
23 Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, 27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon, 33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

this is Joseph's actual physical genealogy recorded in Matthew, and we need to know it as well. he also came through the Kingline, and as the adoptive step-father of Jesus, there is a 100% legal right to rule throne of David (the son of Jesse), even from Solomon's branch (in spite of the fact that God said there would not be another king from that branch, it STILL ends in Christ, via his adoptive father Joseph).

The Lord has and absolute LOCK-DOWN on the lineage and legality of Jesus Christ being the prophesied and rightful heir of the throne of David for all men to see through BOTH lines of the Kingline of Judah via David - David's son Solomon (Joseph; Matthew 1) and David's OTHER SON NATHAN through whom Mary and Jesus came; Luke 3.

here is The Lord's genealogy (legally ADOPTIVE) through JOSEPH who also was born in the kingline of Judah. this is Joseph's genealogy...notice the focus of this recording - it's about Abraham, and counts generations between markers in hebrew history.

again...notice this is Joseph's genealogy.

Matthew 1
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
1The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, 4 and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of David the king.

And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, 7 and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, 8and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, 9 and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10 and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.

12And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13 and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, 14 and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, 15and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

~

one reason this is important for us to know is that the jews who are still waiting for their messiah wrongly believe the messiah is to come physically through David VIA Solomon, when in fact the Messiah Jesus came physically through David via NATHAN.

okay?

I consider this thread one of those things which God works together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

I agree, I think that when we see Him, His appearance will be rather startling to us. John saw Him thus:

And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with Me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands: and in the middle of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girdled across His breast with a golden girdle. And His head and His hair were white like while wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire; and His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been caused to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. And in His right hand He held seven stars; and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shinning in its strength. And when I saw Him, I feel as His feet as a dear man.

Yep, I don't think we will worry too much about the color of His skin.

In Christ,

two other noteable things concerning the genealogies:

1) one of the great joys of having a Reformed Covenant view of the scriptures is that it is Christo-centric:

so when God speaks of joining the two sticks of Israel and Judah we see what He means - IN CHRIST are two made one.

after the idolatry of Solomon, the two houses (kingdoms) were divided...it is JESUS who comes together through both lines as King of kings that makes the two ONE.

israel-centro hermenuetics, on the other hand, does NOT always see Christ as central to everything in scripture, rather, looks to the children of israel for the fulfillment of these things...so we end up with a rather tragic and absurd picture in our minds of a literal future reunion by multitudes of supposed Ten Lost Tribes appearing out of nations and running to meet their long lost brothers from Judah and Benjamin, embracing and shaking hands and talking about the good days.....nothing to do with JESUS CHRIST fulfilling those prophecies.

2) concerning Jesus' human genealogy through Jesse, David, Nathan, Heli and Mary:

Mary's mother was 100% of the Aaronic PRIEST LINE.
Mary's father was 100% of the KINGLINE of Judah.

Mary 50% Aaronic priestline, 50% Judahite Kingline.

IN JESUS CHRIST WE SEE:

THE SON OF GOD
The Son of Man
100% PRIEST
100% KING

King of kings, and Lord (Priest) of lords.

amen.

Jesus is fully the Son of God.
OH REALLY? i did not know that,VW.
thank you for informing me of that little detail.

maybe this is where you make your remark about carnal head knowledge, or foolish genealogies.
perhaps as a chosen servant next time you're having one of your personal visits with The Lord getting "a word" for us, you should tell him some loathsome workers care about what He recorded about Emmanuel's incarnation....who knows...maybe He'll see it your way. maybe you'll come back with a "word" to ignore that part of scripture.

Meh, I figure this is about as offensive as I can think up. (In keeping with the theme of the board).

Is God (Jesus) a White man?
christianity is a white mans religion always was no one can dispute that its a fact. its little wounder the Jesus you most often see is blue eyed fair headed with white features and soft white skin go figure ha.
White men used thier white religion to dominate other cultures and races and destroy others belief systems and values in other words its a virus.

Christianity is not about white or black, man nor woman, old nor young. It is about a lost people, doomed to separation from God forever, being reconciled back to God in Jesus Christ.

You can speak bad about those who practice christianity, but if you are of the opinion that Jesus is concerned with the color of your skin, then you have not heard Him.

please don't.

I think that I have to.

ya. you do.
And no, I do not pity myself. I am very happy with what I have seen in my life from God. He has given me joy unspeakable. I regret my sins, with every fiber of my being, but they are forgiven and I have died with Jesus to them. I am now just living before Him each day, keeping nothing hidden from His sight, having an open heart before Him.

So no, I do not pity myself.

Jesus could have been black, dark, red or olive-skinned. In Europe they have the black Jesus or brown Jesus as well. I think his message matters more than his skin color.
