it’s an interesting read but doesn’t fit Into the rest of scripture and contradicts it several times

The "Book of Enoch" is properly understood as 1 Enoch. There are a number of other writings that bear this name (2 Enoch, 3 Enoch) which were written centuries later (probably as counter-missionary works), but generally speaking when people refer to the Book of Enoch, it is with reference to 1 Enoch.

As literature of the time (1 Enoch), the NT authors were familiar with its contents, insomuch that it is cited by Jude with reference to Jesus (vv. 13-14),

“It was also about these people that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, 'Behold, the Lord has come with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.' These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.”

What’s interesting is that this citation that Jude alludes to is from 1 Enoch 1:1-10, which is a reference to the “eternal God” who “will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai,”

“The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling, And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai, [And appear from His camp] And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens. And all shall be smitten with fear And the Watchers shall quake, And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth. And the high mountains shall be shaken, And the high hills shall be made low, And shall melt like wax before the flame And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder, And all that is upon the earth shall perish, And there shall be a judgement upon all (men). But with the righteous He will make peace. And will protect the elect, And mercy shall be upon them. And they shall all belong to God, And they shall be prospered, And they shall all be blessed. And He will help them all, And light shall appear unto them, And He will make peace with them'. And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones to execute judgement upon all, and to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

Jude utilizes 1 Enoch 1:1-10 (about the eternal God) and applies it to the Lord Jesus. This does not mean 1 Enoch was considered "Scripture" anymore than those passages which Paul cites from pagan poets and philosophers (Acts 17:22-28) were considered "Scripture." The NT authors cited extrabiblical materials that were meaningful to their contemporary audiences.

1 Enoch is valuable for studying Second Temple Judaism, but 2 Enoch, 3 Enoch, etc. are considered counter-missionary works; written by Jews to combat the spread of Christianity.

Thanks so much for this post, it explains so much about Enoch.

I had felt sure that Enoch was scripture, there were thousands of years that man considered it scripture. It did not make sense to me that the Catholic Church could decide for us that it was not. Your information about the books explains it.

I learned of Enoch when I studied angels. In this study they carefully checked what Enoch said about them with accepted scripture to see if our scripture disagreed with Enoch about angels. Enoch adds much about angels that is not in scripture, but there is no disagreement about what they both say. Those who deny any trustworthy truth in Enoch simply do no understand angels, no other scripture explains them well.

Speaking of Moses, if the Israelites had stayed in Egypt at the end, then they would have had two Kings, an Egyptian king a secular king and a Lord God, so the Israelites had to leave Egypt and Moses couldn't enter the Promised Land for the same reason, for Israel at that time, there could only be one king, and that was God himself.

I think the book of Enoch is real, more believable than the colorful stories of angels rebelling against God.

Its as simple as reading the about page of the producer if this video, The 5th kind. If you read what they are about then you know that they are not about the gospel. They are about paranormal stuff.

Does Jude's mention of Enoch (the man) give it (the book) credibility?

Jude 1:14
“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,”

(This is an important verse because it shows that we return down to earth with Jesus at His Second Coming.)

I would take it one step further and say that this Paul Wallis video-guy is anti-God. He suggests that God (Yahweh) is not eternal but is merely a highly intelligent alien. He mocks the idea of eternal Heaven and Hell in some of His other videos.

I am not saying that we should not discuss this book of Enoch. I'm just asserting that Paul Wallis may not be a valuable resource.

I agree with you and should have read how I said what I said lol. I just found it interesting that people can put that much of a twist on a single book.

I have been studying Azazel lately which led me to portions of the Book of Enoch...

"According to the Book of Enoch, Azazel (here spelled ‘ăzā’zyēl) was one of the chief Grigori, a group of fallen angels who married women. Many believe that this same story (without any mention of Azazel) is told in the Book of Genesis 6:2–4"

Azazel - Wikipedia

I noticed that Azazel in the Bible seemed to be associated with conception and childbirth.

I was astonished to see the correlation in Enoch that Azazel played a role in the Sons of God producing Giants.

Did Samuel not write the Book of Ruth? Not defending Enoch, just saying we can not go by that logic.
Your logic makes no sense. Samuel is well addressed in 1-2 Sam Enoch is only found in the Book of Genesis 5:18 and we have very little of him. The Narrative of Ruth is the opening to what was Coming down from the Genealogy "There is a son born to Naomi.” And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. "

which is the starting of First Samuel. Context is important. Saying Samuel wrote the book of Ruth as somehow is in relation to the book of Enoch was written 100's years after Enoch by those who were not Eyewitnesses of Enoch

What I was saying is the Book of Enoch not being written by Enoch isn’t a book killer by itself. I was meaning we do not hold to the fact if the person the Book is about isn’t written by said person, it holds no merit.

the fact that is more gnostic than not does. it was not inspired.

No, I don't think it does. Both are quoting from a third source, the actual Enoch.

Much love!
