This shows you even back than, people read into the verse what they wanted to. This also happens much more today. I'm sure all of have had Christians read into a story or verse what they wanted it to.

The story Jesus told of the rich man hiring workers at different times of the day and paying each of them the same wage. I had a friend in church who owned a business. He took this story to mean, once you're hired and agree to a wage, that is all you get. No pay raises, no bonuses. If you were hired for $10 an hour and worked for the company for 30 years, your pay should stay the same, $10 an hour. He raised his pay because he owned the company. The story only applied to workers, according to him.

It’s not up to personal interpretation
Meditating on Scriptures is what all the religious men and women do. Just because I am a lay person, it doesn't mean I can't do the same. It is in plain language. Thanks for your concern, though. It's good to not go wild with the Scriptures as some people do. This just dawned on me some years ago. I thought I would share it here to see what everyone else thinks. I'm not surprised that some don't believe it's true.

In John 21.22, Jesus says that John would remain alive until He returns. So, where is John now? Where has he been? Did Jesus keep anyone else alive? John is the oldest living person if it's just him, at over 2000 years old. So, where is he? Wouldn't he be in the news? Wouldn't he be out preaching and healing people and working wonders and miracles?

I think he is either one of two things: 1. being held captive somewhere. or 2. in hiding somewhere. Those are the only explanations I can come up with for not knowing his whereabouts.
Isn't Methuselah suppose to be immortal? I think that's what I read.

Except nowhere is it said that John will not, or would not, die. You
read that in and then act as if that is what Jesus said, when He did
not, and/or meant, the latter of which is pure speculation on your part.

John will die, but not until Jesus comes again.

Did you really want to know what others think? I don't doubt you believe it, but it doesn't have the ring of truth to me. Just because something pops into your head, and it seems to be some kind of new revelation, that doesn't make it true. Has this ever been taught historically? Can you point to any other sources who have taught this?

Did not look closely at he verse following the one you quoted? It seems to say plainly the opposite to what you are inferring.

John 21:22-23 (KJV)
[22] Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
[23] Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

He was Noah’s grandfather, and he wasn’t listed on the Ark’s passenger list.
True. Only eight were saved: Noah and his wife, their three sons, and their sons' wives.

On that very day Noah entered the ark, along with his sons Shem, Ham,
and Japheth, and his wife, and the three wives of his sons— Genesis 7:13

Some of whom were disobedient in the days of Noah, while the long-suffering of God waited,
while the ark was preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:20

Sure, I care about what others think about this. It's okay if you don't trust me because I'm not your pastor. No, I've never heard it before. I just figured it logically that John is still out there somewhere. There was this street sign on this bus route I used to take when I volunteered at a library called Saint Johns Drive. It just got me thinking while I was riding on the bus one day.

It's not a matter of trusting or not trusting you; it's about whether what you're saying can stand up to scrutiny. Have you considered Mark 10:39? Jesus, talking to James and John, says: "So Jesus said to them, 'You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;' "

Sounds like Jesus is foretelling John's death.

Well it's His words, not mine that are being stood up to scrutiny. I'm just the one here that realized what it means in the present day, that John has yet to die.

That's fine, I've seen it a million times. Someone gets an idea in their head and they think they're the only one privileged enough to see it, even when there's a mountain of evidence against them. I won't waste any more time trying to talk you out of your delusions.

Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”

Imagine that christians bothered to read scripture.
"Jesus did not say that he would not die".
"Jesus did not say that he would not die".
"Jesus did not say that he would not die".

No need to insult me. You have the right to disagree, but calling me delusional isn't right. It makes sense. Jesus said John wouldn't die until He returns. So, he's still alive now. It's nothing revolutionary, just something that you've got to pick up on if your smart.
