Jesus also said this: Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. (Luke 22:36)
Why did He say this if swords were not meant for self-defense? What you quoted was taken out of context, since that is a reference to either soldiers or murderers. Peter was not supposed to be defending Christ with his sword.

Hey there, I definitely get what you're saying about bullying and the reactions of those Christians on the other forum. It's sad to hear they thought the answer to bullying was to become bullies themselves. You bring up an interesting point about Jesus' approach to dealing with his persecutors and turning the other cheek. I thought about blackmail though I cannot think of an instance where Jesus used writing to confront his enemies except in the case of the woman caught in adultery where he wrote on the ground (its never said what he wrote?)

I wouldnt call scammers bullies, bullying is a lot more personal. Scammers are just opportunists and will rip of anyone, bullies are a lot more targeted as to whom they want gone.

Saul was not really a bully when he persecuted the Church but he thought he was doing the will of God and did not believe Jesus was the Messiah.

If a Christian is verbally or physically assaulted they are not to fight back with the same method but by the word of God.
If they fight back then they are acting like the people that attacked them so then how are they separated from the world, and a Christian.

When the world persecutes the Christians they should not fight back for however they fight back will come back on them.
This is the patience and faith of the saints to endure the persecution.
If they fight back then they are not better than the world that fights physically for what they believe.

when being persecuted/bullied you just stand your ground, you dont need to fight. God will protect you and vindicate you. When you open your mouth, He will give you utterance.

In the global scheme of things, there are world leaders that seem to be complete bullies, picking on those who are weaker or smaller. Why does might think it's always right, when God is the Almighty and cares for the weak and defenceless.

Let’s not pretend we are righteous as we criticize others generically. Name those world leaders you think are bullies. Provide evidence of their alleged crimes. Explain why you think their actions are unjustified.
Then explain the actions of their alleged “victims”. Give proper and fair-minded context.
Finally, explain how biblical history speaks to such concerns, and what spiritual aspects may be involved.

The world fights physically for their beliefs to preserve them and extend them.
The saints are not to fight physically for the kingdom of God..
Some people think that in the garden it was not alright to use the sword but they can use it in another situation.
But Jesus said all people that use the sword will perish with the sword.
That includes everyone so it does not matter the situation.

They went out looking innocent and no harm intention at the first.
Jesus tells his disciples to buy a sword primarily to fulfill the prophesy that He would be numbered among the transgressors(Luke 22:37, Isaiah 53:12), not to lead an armed revolt or for personal protection.
To be crucified as a criminal, Jesus needed to appear as the leader of a lawless band or armed rebellion.
Having disciples with swords made him look like a rebel to authorities leading the path to the cross.
The swords were for appearance only.
And no harm done for Jesus did not want them use the sword so He was still innocent.
It does matter what those that were against Him thought for there was no harm being done.
But they would want to believe things against Jesus which they were always looking for ways to accuse Him.
Later He tells Peter that he that uses the sword will perish with the sword to use no violence.
