Hello Everyone,

Let's try something that is strictly an experiment churning around in my head. Now I'll be honest, I'm not sure how to structure this thread, so please be gentle with your criticisms (because you know the first thing I'll do is challenge the person to show us how it SHOULD -- be done with their very own thread!) But kind, well-meaning feedback to enhance the fun and efficiency is always welcome! :)

This is an ode to @presidente's Dating Profile Thread, which had me thinking about all the past dating threads that have been tried in the past.

One thing the Singles Forum became famous for in the past was "Shipping Threads", where people suggested various combinations of singles here who might make good couples.

You can see an example of this here:

https://christianchat.com/christian-singles-forum/the-new-ship-it-thread.204184/

The main problems with this was: 1. You have to know enough about people to suggest a "shipping" without anyone getting offended; 2. Married/taken people and young teens were accidentally shipped; 3. People that weren't mentioned (because no one knew them well enough to ship them with someone) felt left out; and 4. People who didn't want to participate at all were usually the one shipped with the most matches!

This is just a small glimpse into why trying these kinds of threads is so challenging.

Is it possible for us to come up with a better way to meet, learn about each other, and possibly make friends? Let's give it a try!

First of all, let's establish this as just a friendship thread so that singles won't feel like they're under a microscope and our married friends can still participate.

The goal of this thread is to start learning about each other! Depending on the answers (and whether or not it gets derailed,) I might go on to write sequel threads that build upon everything we learn about one other in each thread. So rather than posting a long, intimidating profile of yourself, if you would like to participate in this thread, just answer the following questions.

And, the questions are optional -- you can omit anything that doesn't apply to you, and are welcome to post additional information about yourself if you would like. (I'm filling all these out with my own answers, but you can copy and paste the questions or just go ahead and leave your answers. :)

1. Hi! I would like to be called:

Seoul :)

2. I am hoping to meet some new friends to: (you can put in whatever interests you have, whether going to lunch, pet play dates, go for a walk, play games, etc.)

Go to coffee with. :)

3. I am a:

Girl. :)

(I'm including this because many people have their profiles hidden so it can be hard to tell if someone is male or female.)

4. Some of the things I like are:

(My answer) flowers, museums, burgers, theme parks, travel

5. If we went to coffee, I would order: (Feel free to mix this up and make this question your own. For example: "If we met up for board games, I would like to to play;" "If we met up to play video games, my current favorites are:"

(My answer:) some kind of sweet seasonal drink (but something more original than pumpkin spice!) and a pastry (probably fruit-filled.) :)

How about YOU?! :) Now it's your turn to answer! :)

This thread is purely an experiment and it could land dead in the water (so much for any shipping ,) but let's see what we can come up with!!! We don't know if we don't try!

And, this thread is about friendships and meeting people in groups, so our married friends are invited to play, too. :)

3. I am a:
Guy, but I identify as a feline.

4. Some of the things I like are:
Dark chocolate. A really good story, whether in book or video game. A purring cat on my lap. Pie.

5. If we went to coffee I would order:
Hot chocolate.

Forgive me, Lynx, but my scattered brain read this as: "I am a: Guy, but I identify as feminine."

Sorry, sorry!!!

Will I earn forgiveness if I say thank you for a great first post!?

I really hope people will overlook my goofy sense of humor.

When I read that Jacob likes both "animals" and "most meats," I was picturing him sitting down to a table at some all-American restaurant surrounded by plates and saying: "I just LOVE animals!! Steak... chicken... pork chops... bacon... cheeseburgers..."

Somehow, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make any friends here if I keep mixing up their posts.

Welcome Jacob and thank you for stopping by! :geek:

I like Jacob's answer .;):giggle:. However, in all honesty I cannot say I expect to ever meet people from here...
while we are walking this world. Having camaraderie and online friends is wonderful, and certainly preferable
to having enemies. Since I spend the majority of my time on CC in the BDF, the latter does seem somewhat
inevitable. I do read a lot of posts here in singles and elsewhere, but respond to a lot less than I read for a
number of reasons. If by some miracle I ever did meet someone from here, I would hope among other things
that we could spend time occasionally gong for leisurely strolls. I say leisurely because I cannot walk far or fast,
but being more physically active would hopefully help alleviate some of that. On my own I am not very motivated
to do things just because they are "good for me" or simply because they should get done, like dishes, for instance
.:whistle::LOL:.
I even wrote a poem about doing dishes a while back .. It is here (<= link) if anyone would like to read it .:)

1. Hi! I would like to be called:

"Seeking" is fine.

2. I am hoping to meet some new friends to:

Have conversations with about the deep things of God, this life, and the afterlife. If we have some sort of genuine connection in relation to these things, then we can hopefully become good friends. God is a very real part of my life, and I do have a genuine burden for souls, so those topics will inevitably come up in conversation at times.

3. I am a:

Man.

Wait.

Hold on.

Let me check...

Yep, I am a man.

4. Some of the things I like are:

Long talks, genuine people, the outdoors/nature, snow, fossils, animals, and an occasional glass of wine. Oh, and making people laugh...even though most people here do not seem to get or appreciate my sense of humor.

5) If we went to coffee I would order:

Something to go, and ask you if we could take a walk together and talk. I honestly do not care too much about places and things. When everything is said and done, all that will matter is our relationships with God and people, and I am quite the people person.

Where is the paper shredder?

lol.

1. Hi! I would like to be called:

Keith (though some of my closer friends call me Keithiepoo)

2. I am hoping to meet some new friends to:

Share interests with. These are many, so the subset of commonalities has some flexibility (see list below).

3. I am a:

A man.

4. Some of the things I like are:

• stargazing/astronomy
• art (classical, mostly; when I retire, I may wish to pick back up traditional art)
• science fiction TV/movies
• music: 80s new wave / movie scores / "space" / bellydance / Asian folk
• home audio systems
• collecting vinyl records
• old computers (computers in general)
• videography
• movies
• museums
• NYC sports teams…(though with all the woke garbage being shoved into our faces since 2020, I've had a hard time following my teams)
• following current events
• reading (history & political science; the occasional novel -- currently reading CS Lewis' "Out of the Silent Planet")
• studying and taking online courses (I've taken two Hillsdale College courses, and am now in my third)
• writing (working on a blog and a vlog)
• working out (but I have a weakness for carbs -- and it shows )
• spontaneous road trips
• exploring the locale
• having long, deep conversations

I may want to get back into martial arts (JKD, Systema). I loved walking up and down Manhattan when I lived in NYC, but... the city's become a joke, so no more of that.

5. If we went to coffee, I would order:

Hmmm... I like blended drinks with caramel.

I always enjoy shipping threads.
You know, I forgot to add "old sitcoms". This reminded me of Elaine's fictional boyfriend who was an importer / exporter.

And now I'm trying to picture the latest megablockbuster hit movie, "Godzilla XXXIV: Attack of The Keithiepoo!"

Is there any interesting story as to how your friends came up with that nickname? :D

Well... I mean... If I did identify as feminine, I hear I'd still be able to preach in the [redacted] denomination.

*Lynx bats his eyelashes at seoulsearch.

EDIT
This post has been edited to remove the name of a denomination. But I could probably get away with preaching there even if I identified as a polar bear.

Do you really see 34 Godzilla movies coming out?? Wowzee... I have much to live for!!
I follow a guy on YouTube who's actually tried to reviews all the old monster movies. I had no idea how many Godzilla movies there have been, so I was just hoping I'd picked a high enough number!
