“I’m all ears”
What? This is absurd.

“It’s raining cats and dogs”
What? This makes zero sense.

The first saying is fairly obvious. The "cats and dogs" is thought to come from the days when thatched roofs were the norm. It was not unusual for cats and sometimes dogs, to get into the roof area. If the rain was heavy, the animals would jump, or slide off the roof as it was too wet. So it would look like the animals were coming down with the rain.

It means to swing a "cat o' nine tails". a type of lash around the 15th/16th century. Often referred to as "a cat".
I'm into that period of time as part of church history.

Thank you so much for this information. Let's hope the cat-haters have this revealed to them, too. 🥳👍🤩🤣

Hi, no yanking intended!
I've just been reliably infirmed that this refers to a cat-o-nine-tails, a mediaeval whip. This made my day! 👍

Made my day is another one. If you really depended on me to set the keynote for your whole day, you'd be sorely disappointed. :p

This one is often paired with something akin to, "When hell freezes over" .:geek:
Oh I heard something about that. It hasn't happened yet, but apparently it is scheduled to happen when some sports group called The rangers win something called a pennant.

He's number then a box of rocks.

He's number than a boot full of novacaine.

Now he's bobbing for rocks in a boot full of novacaine.
