Mr. Scofield uses scissors and glue:

2 Thess 2: remove/obscure the word NOW
Romans 11: remove/obscure the word NOW

new kids:

Acts 2:16
But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:

make it say, this is LIKE what Joel said, but not really cuz there's a 2000 year gap in it, cuz there's a LATTER RAIN.

For Satan to be bound, he must be thrown into the bottomless pit (still future) so he cannot deceive the nations anymore. He will try to deceive a second time when he is loosed. Judging by our current world condition, I hardly think Satan is in his "pit".

The Kingdom is within us... 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; (philip. 1) but it is not SET UP yet. It has begun, but is not complete.

I fully believe the millenium is a kingdom with a timeline, ON EARTH, because what would be the point of Christ's return in a visible sense,....???? The men that saw him go up were promised he would return in LIKE MANNER... visibly and with his army. Whatever happens after that.... we will see ;)
There is no point in arguing about this. It will never be sorted out until Jesus' return.

Judging by our world condition:

1) basic civil biblical laws are still in place in pretty much every nation
2) Premiere league footie has just started again (Yay!)
3 ) People are going about their business quite happily. Busininess as usual
4) A coupla isolated 'wars' goin on (can hardly call them wars, more like empirical manouverings)
5) Me and zone are drinking banana dacharies on the beach.

Ya I'd say Satan is in his pit and bound up.

It's getting worse though. There will come a time soon when all hell will break loose on a global scale. And I dont mean like a world war, I mean like...every nation deceived into doing satans work against the Church. (although a world war could lead up to it).

The Kingdom is within us... 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; (philip. 1) but it is not SET UP yet. It has begun, but is not complete.

But Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world!!!

1Pt 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

*This is a NT verse for the instruction of the present church and body of Christ and correlates with that which is recorded in (Job 1:7,2:2) where Satan is seen as going to and fro and walking up and down in the earth.

In (Rev 20:2) he is the dragon, that old serpent, the devil and Satan.

In (Lk 10:18) Jesus said that He beheld Satan fall as lightning from heaven, who was cast out unto the earth in (Rev 12:9). The verb 'beheld' is an imperfect tense that is unfolding with progressive results. These two verses give us a reference of a past completed act of Satan falling from heaven with a future application that progressively unfolds in the plan of God that effects time and place. There is no indication that Satan is presently bound in the bottomless pit, for that is future in (Rev 20:1-3), but rather has been been cast out and bound from his active exalted position in heaven... as an anointed cherub that covereth being set upon the holy mountain of God (Ez 28:14)... to the atmosphere above the earth (Eph 2:2) and later upon the earth (Rev 12:9).

*Satan is cast out of the atmosphere of heaven above the earth to the inhabitance of the earth in (Lk 10:18, Rev 12:9) and later is bound by a angel to the bottomless pit in (Rev 20:1-3). The angel came down from heaven (locative - Rev 20:1) to bind and chain the Devil that was upon the earth (locative), who had previously ruled from the air and atmosphere above it (Eph 2:2). Satan had to be cast upon the earth so that he could later be bound by the angel which is all future because the revelation and vision given to John in (Rev 20) was future and this was written some (95 years) after the ascension of Christ. There is an angelic conflict (Jude 1:9, Dan 10) that has and is taking place in the atmosphere and Satan has to be brought low and spoiled from his reigning position in the atmosphere in order to be bound and chained in the bottomless pit.

*When Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, He spoiled the principalities and powers, meaning that He stripped them off his body as He was ascending and made an example (open shew) of them as He triumphed over them and went right through their clutching grasp (Col 2:15).

To believe at present that Satan has been bound and chained to the bottomless pit (Rev 20:3), is to distort the scriptures by dislocating them from their arranged position. Those scriptures that provide the church with instructions concerning the present activity of the dragon, that old serpent, the devil and Satan would be obsolete and we would have no need to put on the whole armour of God that we might be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Eph 6:11). 'wiles of the devil' are those deceitful, cunning and crafty tricks of the devil.

Eph 6:10-18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

*If Satan (the Devil) is bound at present, having no authority of power here on the earth, then we, as members of God's church and body, have no need to be concerned or to practice putting on the whole armour of God. Why is the above passage present in the scriptures to instruct believers that make up the church after the ascension of Christ, if Satan is bound and chained in the bottomless pit already? Here are others passages that relate to Satan being active in the NT church...

Acts 5:3, 26:18, 1Cor 5:5, 7:5, 2Cor 2:11, 4:4, 11:14, 12:7, Eph 4:27, 1Thes 2:18, 1Tim 1:20

So whoever believes that Satan has already been bound, also believes that we are in the 1,000 reign of Christ on earth. Those that believe in this manner are out of joint with the order of events that take place concerning the revelation and vision that was given to John when on the Isle of Patmos (Rev 1:9).

So they dont make reference to him being bound so what?
Well, then what do they make a reference to in terms of their setting and time frame in contrast and comparison to (Jn 12:31 and Rev 20:3)? If you do not know, that I fine, but just say so. I am not trying to embarass you but only find out what you understand, that's all.

(John 12:31) Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

(Revelation 20:3) And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Satan is cast out and has been for a long time.

He is therefore bound from deceiving the nations.
Satan is cast out of heaven but, is not bound until the beginning of the 1000 years, he will not be able to deceive cause there will be no one here.
Jeremiah 4:23-25
(23) I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
(24) I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
(25) I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

Bottomless pit means a place of emptiness when Jesus returns His people will go to heaven for 1000 years while the wicked are destroyed and Satan and his angels are on earth in a place of emptiness darkness.
Revelation 16:18-20
(18) And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
(19) And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
(20) And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

and, since we see his job is to deceive the gentiles, what does that suggest?
You do not think that Satan is deceiving the nations and blinding the minds of those that believe not, even as we speak? If you don't, you are either incredibly blind or you have absolutely no discernment. Which one is it, blind or lack discernment? If you can't discern the tactics and strategies of the devil what good are you to the kingdom of God? Even the new babes in Christ have some discernment in this, but you just blow it off with terrible misunderstanding.

I have friends that have been serving God in Europe and Asia over the past (20) years preaching the gospel and building churches, and facing obstacles that they have had to overcome because the devil has many strongholds in the government and among the people and he did not want them there. These faithful men and women would not give in to this opposition and got wisdom from God and persevered through grace and truth and by faith trusted God and did not lean on the arm of the flesh. They had a calling from God and they never quit. The gospel is going forward even with that opposition. Are you going to call me a liar?

Don't you tell me that Satan does not have the power to deceive the nations through its government and people. Have you no idea of the weapons we have been given for this type of warfare, that includes the word which is the sword of the Spirit? Satan is the god of this world and its system and he does not like what God's people are doing when they invade his territory of kingdoms in this world with the glorious gospel. Stop being so deceived in your own conceit and get out of you ignorance and wake up out of your sleep.

We all love God and His word don't we? Rejoice and be glad and know that the battle is the Lord's

The Coming of the Kingdom
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, 21nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

Matthew 21:5
"Say to the Daughter of Zion, 'See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'"
Zone, I agree with you on this, sis... it is in the midst of us... one day ALL will see him as King... Visibly.
But consider for a moment what the response would have been like if they had preached, "The kingdom of God is 2,000 years away." The message would have been disappointing, and public response would also have been disappointing. Jesus may not have been popular, Jewish religious leaders might not have been jealous, and Jesus might not have been crucified. "The kingdom of God is far away" would have been neither news nor good.
In the Olivet prophecy, Jesus announced that the kingdom would come after certain signs and apocalyptic events. But some of Jesus’ teachings and parables explain that the kingdom does not come in a dramatic way. The seed grows quietly (Mark 4:26-29); the kingdom starts as small as a mustard seed (verses 30-32) and is hidden like yeast (Matthew 13:33). These parables suggest that the kingdom is a reality before it comes in a powerful and dramatic way. In addition to being a future reality, it has reality right now.
The kingdom is relevant not merely because it is our future reward, but also because it affects how we live and think in this age. We prepare for the future kingdom by living IN it now, in accordance with our King’s teachings. As we live in faith, we recognize God’s rule as a present reality in our own experience, and we continue to hope in faith for a future time when the kingdom will be filled to the full, when the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord.

If there was no future Kingdom, what would be the point of the 2nd Coming?

concerning satan BOUND:

here's THE ONLY THING we are told satan is RELEASED TO DO (nullifying any questions about long lists about other things):

the ONLY place the thousand years is mentioned, the big controversy. what do we know from the single short chapter Rev 20?

he is bound.
there's a period called a thousand years.
he is released to:

Revelation 20:8
and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.

that's it.
that's the whole story.

this means only one thing: for that period of time called a thousand years satan is not permitted to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle

that's all there is on his being bound for a thousand years.

there simply no possible way to move beyond understanding this chapter until we agree that there is one thing only mentioned with the binding of satan in Chapter 20.

there's a BATTLE.
it's at the end of the age.
God and Magog are mentioned.

this happens ONE TIME.

this either happens at the end of THIS AGE, before the Second Advent, or it happens at the end of a literal 1,000 years period AFTER the Second Advent.

there are only two choices.

~

question:

if there is a literal period of 1,000 years on this earth AFTER The Second Advent, isn't the precise minute of the last battle (Rev 20) and the entire reason for satan being bound NULL AND VOID, since if we know exactly how many years from the moment Jesus returns until the time satan is supposedly released after the literal 1,000, there's hardly any DECEPTION involved is there?

so, before proceeding, is it possible to ONLY deal with Rev 20 and what it actually says, for now?

thanks (Redstser:D)
maybe we'll get to the bottom of the bottomless pit....HEY!

bottomless? satan must be floating up banging his head on the locked and chained lid because it's bottomless...if he stopped flying for any time he'd fall into eternal nothingness wouldn't he?

oh...maybe it's FIGURATIVE.

The bottomless pit is also referred to as 'the deep'. In the beginning the Spirit of God was hovering over the deep. Perhaps there is a connection? Darkness, void, etc... I dunno...

Maybe we should do a study on the bottomless pit so we can understand what it really is and why the locusts get freed to torment men for 5 months; but Satan is bound in there now? It makes no sense. If Satan is Apollyon, then why is that not mentioned in Rev. 20?
Doesn't being bound mean 'he can't do anything'? like deceive? The BP stops him from being able to DECEIVE.. which he's doing a good job of right now.
The BP= prevention of deception. Lots of deception is going on right now. We all know that, no getting around it.

And Ananda, I never said anything about a 3rd coming?? Don't put words in my mouth. And ya'll shouldn't go around mocking those who believe Satan is NOT bound right now. Perhaps dig a little deeper as to what that really means.

Cheers

Revelation 20

1And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, ,that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season..

4And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

5But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

6Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

7And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
