I didn't write scripture, this is why scripture is so important.

It's not what "I'm" saying, it what the scriptures clearly teach.

Acts 5:32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

This is for those who the Spirit convicts us of sin and listens John 16:8- changes directions

for those who listen to the Spirit who calls us out of rebellion to God Heb 3:7-8 changes direction

the Spirit enables us to obey God and His commandments John 14:15-18

and is given to those who obey Acts 5:32

People who oppose God's law but claim they are walking in His Spirit is flatly refuted.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

God Spirit works in harmony with Gods law because our salvation is from sin, not in sin. Jesus saves us from sin,. Mat 1:21
You are misinterpreting scripture. Both cannot be true.

We need to cooperate with His Spirit, He doesn't force Himself on us. Sadly, many do not hear His small still voice calling us out of rebellion to Him, this is what grieving the Holy Spirit is about, not obeying God's law the way He asks.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree.

Again...we are to cooperate. But how we cooperate makes all the difference in whether we walk in the power of the Spirit or our own strength. One is pleasing in God's sight. The other is not.

Quenching the Spirit is trying to do it on our own. In our flesh.

Do not Grieve the Spirit.
Do not quench the Spirit.
If we do the above. 1 John 1:9 name and site it to God. He forgives us for what we acknowledge to Him and He also cleanses us from all unrighteousness......unknown sin or unknown self righteous deeds. We are then back in fellowship and filled with the Spirit.
Walk in the Spirit.

I don't know if you read the scriptures or post you are replying to, but I agree we are not made righteous by the law- righteousness comes from Christ obeying Him and His commandments leads to righteousness, His righteousness Romans 6:16 Isa 48:18

Jesus never said "to the people to do as the Pharisees say but not as they do."

Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they were teaching to keep their own rules over the commandment of God and Jesus said when doing this, ones heart is far from Him and one worships in vain. He called the Pharisees blind in this teaching and both teacher and student who follow this end up in a ditch. Mat 15 Mark 7

Jesus taught our righteousness needs to exceed the Pharisees otherwise we not make it in heaven either Mat 5:20 and we are not to break the least of God's commandments or teach others to break as we too can follow the path of the Pharisees (in a ditch) when listening to this teaching or we can follow the narrow path Jesus leads us on John 14:15 Mat 5:19-30 Mat 19:17-19 Mat 15 Mark 7 Mat 7 which will lead us back to reconciliation.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Jesus did say as I said. Read Matthew 23.

In the end it all comes to this;

Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live,
Deu 30:20 and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

this means we have a choice to make!

Jesus our Savior and Lord said;

Mat 5:19 So then, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 19:17 “Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

Jhn 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Jhn 14:21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

1Jn 2:3 By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.

1Jn 3:22 and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.

And these verses from his disciple who knew him well;

1Jn 3:24 Whoever keeps His commandments remains in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep His commandments.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,

2Jn 1:6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the very commandment you have heard from the beginning, that you must walk in love.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was enraged at the woman, and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea.

Rev 14:12 Here is a call for the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandment of God and the faith of Jesus.

From scripture, it is abundantly clear that the Lord asks his followers, those believe in him meaning, those of us who love him and follow him to keep his commandments.

Blessings.
