Some of Leonard Cohen's songs seemed to have their decent spiritual moments, even though they'd definitely qualify as secular music, and he wasn't even a Christian. A case in point. These lyrics would require only relatively small modifications to pass as solidly Christian:

Leonard Cohen was a Jew and that shows through some of his songs. I can't listen to him as I find him depressing .

Some people who call themselves "Christians" act more like modern-day Pharisees, routinely condemning anything & anyone that doesn't live up to their super-strict interpretation of Scripture. I should know, having been raised by such people for many years in my childhood. They forced so much hate and fear of hellish fire down my throat, that by the age of 18 I abandoned the church, and didn't go back until ten years later, having made many serious personal mistakes in that time. And even after that, it took me at least another year to really love and trust God again; my Mom was a true God-send when it came to that. But then she suddenly passed away from a very sudden lung-cancer attack in 2015, and I probably spent 2 whole years back in a nightmarish state. I hated God, I hated my Mom, I hated the world, I hated the doctors that cared for her...but most of all, I hated myself. The past six years have been a true challenge for me, and its very hard to believe that next year will mark the 10th anniversary of my Mom going to Heaven.

I've listened to a lot of music over this most recent period, a lot of it that my now-deceased elders probably would have wanted me sent to hell for it...but to be honest, I've reached the point where I really don't care. I enjoyed a lot of CCM artists in my youth, like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith; they remain a couple of my favorites in the genre. But I also recently purchased a 3-CD anniversary album by Petra, and since 2010 I've been a fan of the gospel rock band Skillet. Aside from that, some of my other faves include Michael Jackson, Rascal Flatts, Huey Lewis, Paula Abdul, and various movie scores (especially the work of "movie maestro" John Williams).

i will bet that every Christian in the world will favor a song that isn't Godly. think of this: we all don't know the lyrics to all the tunes, so we groove to possibly 1 of our favorite songs unknowingly that is not proper with God. but then if you discover that the words aren't Godly, you should stop listening.

I'm very attentive when it comes to lyrics, so when I come across something that feels wrong I usually tend to avoid it. I'm not perfect by any means, but I still keep trying anyway. I just think people need to ease up on what's supposedly "Godly" and "worldly", because Jesus didn't mark a very strict line in the sand over it. The Bible does say to honor God with spiritual songs in your heart, but not every song is going to say "praise God all the time, or else you'll go to hell". I grew up surrounded by that attitude, and it actually drove me away from God. There's a speaker and comedian I like named Brad Stine, who once said "God gave you a mind, so use it and think about your methods regarding how you treat people." The implication of course, is that the same approach doesn't work for all os us. God's love and rules are absolute, but applying them equally across the board can be a very big mistake.

i'l confess: about a month ago, i listened to acdc's "it's a long way to the top if you want to rock & roll". i like the tune & i shouldn't because they are on the devil's side.

I know this thread is about secular music, so this post will be slightly off topic, but...

If you like those singers, have you ever tried George Rowe?

Yeah his songs take until the chorus to get to the point. Just give it a minute.

Hey, I wanna keep this short and sweet. What are your personal thoughts 💭 on secular music🤔🤔??
SOME "secular music" is blasphemous, immoral, and hateful. And Some "secular music" is positive, peaceful, and uplifting. The same goes for "Church Music". Nowadays I'd generally rather sit in a Bluegrass concert, than a good many Church "Worship" sessions where the same religious cliches are repeated endlessly to a loud Soft Rock accompaniment.

But HEY!!! "It is Well with my Soul will bring me to tears.
