Hey Everyone,

Well, we'll see how this goes. My genius (perhaps slightly dyslexic) brain originally typed out, "Why is Pizza on Pineapple SO Controversial?"

Yeah, the thinking cap is a little backwards this morning.

We all know the infamous controversy about pineapple as a topping on pizza:

BUT, I've always wondered exactly WHY it's so reviled. Is it because:

* Pineapple is a fruit, and fruit should never be on pizza.

* Pineapple is sweet, and sweet shouldn't be mixed with a savory food.

But if this is true, what about things like sweet and sour? Why does one combination work and not the other?

* Is there something just inherently evil about pineapples? Is pineapple somehow a fruit of the devil?

* And (the reason I'm posting this in the Family sections.) if/when your family members disagree on toppings, how many different pizzas do you have to order so everyone is happy?

I have some family members who like a few "unconventional" pizza styles, such as yes, the infamous pineapple, along with BBQ chicken (my least favorite of the ones they've tried,) all-vegetable, and "white" pizza, usually involving spinach and sometimes artichokes. Sometimes when I go to visit, that might be all they've fixed or ordered, so I've learned to not be very picky-- or chances are, I won't get fed. (And don't we ALL show up when a free meal is involved?!)

Whether you think pineapple on pizza should be beloved or bemoaned, it's time to square off!! 🥊

Leave your thoughts, comments, and reasons as to why YOUR opinion is RIGHT (because that's what we do here on the forum ,) and tell us why the opposing side is COMPLETELY WRONG (obviously!)

Pineapple belongs on pizza if it accompanied by ham. Nothing spicy.

In any other combination, it is simply wrong.

Let the haters hate. 😎

I have not had pineapple on pizza in ages, but I think it goes well with ham. I think pineapple on pizza is likely more of regional specialty, maybe more popular in places like Hawaii. Most people elsewhere do not rush to order pineapple on pizza.

*Ahem* Canadian back bacon (LOL).

Hawaiian is my fave pizza choice at my neighbourhood pizza slice place.

But if I am ordering in, I would likely order a pizza with chicken on it, not pig...

My boss sometimes provides pizza lunch for us on special occasions (staff birthdays).

He orders a variety. The chicken one with a white sauce is really lovely!

LOL. I have no desire to eat artichokes, ever! And BBQ sauced-up meats are not for me really, either...

Oh, and while we are on it? Slimy spinach can stay off my pizza as well!!!

:LOL::ROFL::LOL:

I prefer a homemade pizza with peppers, red onions, black olives, mushrooms, and artichokes. It can be with or without hamburger meat, but I prefer without.

If I'm invited over for pizza, whatever they ordered will be fine. No anchovies though!

Ya had me right up to the artichokes! LOL

Anchovies really aren't that bad, though I doubt I have or ever would order them...

And now that you mention it? Fish on pizza just seems like an all-round bad idea!!!

I love pineapple on pizza, but my grandparents are Italian. Italians do not have pineapple on pizza and never cut noodles!

LOL!!

Forget pineapples vs. pizza... I see the REAL controversy here is HAM vs. CANADIAN BACK BACON.

What's even more hilarious is that this is between two Canadians. :D I mean, if it were between a Canadian and someone from the USA, I could see arguing about cross-cultural differences or terminology.

But Canadian vs. Canadian?

Don't bother ordering any gloves.

I'm pretty sure they're about to be taken off!

As far as I'm concerned, seafood doesn't belong ANYWHERE near pizza.

Pizza is supposed to be PIZZA, NOT an aquarium!!! Blech!! 🤢

I'm all in with pineapple on Pizza

It's neat to see so many cuisinally open-minded members join in on the discussion!

I have to be honest. I thought this thread would attract more pineapple haters than not...

But alas -- the thread is still young! :p

OOOHH, Italian grandparents, how cool!!

Were there any restaurants/brands here that got their approval?

(I'm not Italian but I don't like my noodles cut either.)

It depends on where you live. Seafood is a common topping in Asia. South Korea, for instance, doesn't use marinara sauce. Did you know pureed kimchi tastes just like spicy Italian marinara but has about 10 calories? Meanwhile, the Japanese top their seafood pizza with a drizzle of mayo, while the Italians like a large slice of tomato on top of each slice. In South America, it is common to have a taco pizza. don't say you hate it untell you try it.

Ah, this is an excellent point.

I can definitely understand how seafood would be seen as a normal topping in various regions/countries. I'm wondering if it's probably common on the coasts of the USA as well, where seafood is abundant.

I've had kimchi but not pureed. I don't particularly like it, but know the probiotics are healthy so I try to have it in small amounts on a regular basis.

I've never been a big fan of seafood except maybe shrimp and a few rare exceptions. I've just never liked the "fishy" taste -- but I'm all for other people enjoying however they like their food. :)

These kinds of food threads are just for fun and many of us like teasing/joking with each other about people's very different preferences. :D

Glad to have you here!
