I can personally confirm that they have vegemite in New Zealand. I can also personally confirm that it tastes weird and should be avoided.

As for toast, I like it somewhere between correct and furious. If toast is being eaten as a side or snack, butter is enough of a topping. If it's supposed to keep you going for a while then put peanut butter on it, split a banana in half and roll the banana in the toast like a hot dog.

I was also looking for an image with cinnamon and sugar applied as delicately as the bread was toasted, and I had to settle for this image as the best available :confused:
but, rather, it should resemble a lightly 'sparkling' delicately done toast. :love:

I have heard of the legendary Vegemite, but have never had the chance to try it...

Once upon a time, Australia and New Zealand were at the top of my travel bucket list. But now due to motion sickness, claustrophobia, and the insane expense and hassle of traveling, I don't know if I'll ever get there -- but one of these days I'm going to have to track down this mystical condiment...

I know I could order some from Amazon, but I wish I could buy it in a shop that pretends to be at least halfway authentic -- like when I purchased what was supposed to be authentic British tea from a tea house in the USA ran by two British women. :)

If and when you get it, make sure you spread it thinly. Americans don't know how to do this. They lay it down with a trowel. An American comedian said that Vegemite looks and tastes like axle grease. I want to know how he knows what axle grease tastes like.......
 
If I have to eat dry toast, at least I put a glob of Grandma's fresh butter on it, and top it with chunk of her mayhaw jelly, or my cherry bourbon (no alcohol) jelly.

I've always wanted to try fresh butter, but alas, have never had the opportunity.

I went through the "low fat" craze of the 90's, so I don't think I ever tasted real butter unless at a restaurant or until I finally got out on my own.

The media had brainwashed people (around me, at least) into somehow thinking margarine was healthier (just like all those Snackwell's cookies that used twice the sugar instead of fat,) and so butter was considered a forbidden (fat-inducing) luxury.

As @NightTwister, would say, I'm guessing there must be a special place in Food Hell for margarine...

Well... There is a place for margarine. It's not as good as real butter - it's just vegetable oil - but it doesn't make my sinuses act up and keep me awake all night if I eat it at 7pm.

How exactly does one come to know what axel grease tastes like? Did you run out of everything else that might go on your toast and say to yourself...well, let me try some axel grease on this toast. It can't be any worse than Vegemite...

Again, I worked as a mechanic for awhile. Grease on your hands was always a struggle.

It was spread incredibly thin. A NZ'er did it for me. Still tastes like axle grease. It's just something you have to grow up with to gain that acquired taste. I certainly never will at my age.
