I can understand your frustration, but maybe it would be better to just make a routine reply. Repeat, "no. No dogs. Ever." Until they give up and stop talking.
Nothing further was said about it from me. I almost always respond only once when it comes to this topic and then I keep moving on with my life. Which is what happened. I answer how I answer.

The problem is that most people who don't understand a different point of view don't accept a routine answer, no matter how many times it's repeated. They keep trying, thinking they're doing the person a favor by pushing just a little bit more.

It's like the people who always find out I'm adopted and then ask, "Do you know your real parents?" And I say, "The parents I have ARE my real parents," to which they immediately reply, "But what about your ACTUAL parents?" And round and round it goes.

Or the people who tell us singles we absolutely have to be married to be be happy and fulfilled. If they can't see any other way to be in life, it just doesn't compute, and they truly believe they're being helpful with their insistence.

I definitely understand that people who want us to love something they love or see things the way they do, often do so out of their own happiness and wanting to share that with someone else. God bless them for wanting to help, because I know that in their hearts, they believe that's what they're doing. But they don't realize that the same thing that brings them joy might bring absolute misery to the other person instead.

One thing I've definitely learned from this conversation is how I'm going to answer such people in the future.

When someone says I need X or Y in my life when they don't really know me or why I might not have that to begin with, I'm going to tell them, "Well bless your heart. You definitely have the love and time to give, as you're working to hard to share it with me. So just as you're praying for me to have X, I'm going to pray that God introduces you to just the right convict that you can minister to, visit at the prison, and become lifelong friends with too, no matter what other people think."

Hey Everyone,

If you're a little bit on the "well-seasoned side", you might remember the old Meatloaf song (and its "Beauty and the Beast"-inspired video) that was blasting everywhere through the airwaves via 1993:

View attachment 267978

As one would guess, Meatloaf sings this chorus over and over again, "I Would Do Anything for Love -- But I Won't Do That."

My long-time friends on CC (unfortunately) know one of my most major personal weaknesses: Exposure.to.frogs.and.toads. While some people jump at the sight of spiders or wasps, for me, traumatic encounters with a "bumpy rock" jumping out of my Mom's flower garden, and a boy at camp chasing me around with a pair of bulging eyes peering over his hand was enough to turn these simple amphibians into my lifelong antagonists.

And so, I sometimes wake up to "friendly" morning texts from my "friends" such as this:

View attachment 267983

ARGH!!! THAT THING IS JUDGING ME!!

One of my friends even likes to tease me by saying, "But Seoul... What if that frog or toad is really a prince that's just waiting for you to kiss him?!"

OH NO!!!

I told her, " NO, NO, NO -- Not for all the fake riches from all the fake Nigerian princes in all the fake scam emails in the world!!!"

I Would Do Anything For Love -- But I WON'T Kiss a Frog (or Toad.)

What about you? Now it's your turn...

* Finish this sentence (if you dare!):

* "I Would Do Anything For Love, But I Won't___________________________________________________________________________________."

* Here are a few ideas (some "borrowed" from other threads):

* "I Would Do Anything For Love -- But I Won't Eat Vegemite."
* "I Would Do Anything For Love -- But I Won't Go Sky Diving."
* "I Would Do Anything for Love -- But I Won't Give Up My 2 1/2 Cats (one is missing its back paws, ok?!)"

All answers are welcome, serious or silly, but the original intent of the thread is obviously lighthearted fun. :D

I'm looking forward to hearing some very creative (and possibly polarizing) answers!

I would do anything for love but I won't convert from the denomination God used to Save my soul
I would do anything for love but I won't compromise on my beliefs and convictions.
I would do anything for love but I won't eat hot and spicy foods or raisins

All I know is, it works for me when I encounter a waitress who can't deal with the fact that I don't want a drink with my meal. Always waitresses. Waiters just nod and move on. Waitresses always ask a few times if I am sure I don't want a drink. I just keep repeating no I don't want to drink, yes I am sure, until they give up and move on anyway.

A glass of water from a waitress is a lot different than the subjects we've been talking about.

For something like that, it's easy to see why a routine answer -- repeated enough times -- would work. Besides, she's got other people to wait on and can't keep asking about someone's unique request all day. But she might be worried about being seen as not giving good service if she doesn't entertain it for at least a few rounds.

It's a lot different for deeper subjects and more complex dynamics. For instance, I like music, but I could take it or leave it, and there are a hundred other things I'd rather spend my time and money on -- but most music lovers wouldn't let it go if I gave that routine answer over and over.

They'd want to know why. But even a detailed answer wouldn't be enough.

And, God bless their well-meaning hearts, they would keep mentioning songs, always trying to convert me.

😄 Well Elly Mae, you probably liked it for the swamp critters.

Shatner stared in this. It was Much better IMHO.

I did like it for the critters!

What is that Shatner movie? It's not showing up for me. I've seen a lot of Shatner movies, so I may have seen it...whatever it is.

No snacks in the penalty box!!!

Well...

I guess if it's one of the Controversial Foods That Belong in the Lake of Fire, no one's going to argue.:p:cool:

(I'm only teasing about the Vegemite. :) I'd like to try it someday myself.)

Hmm. This puts me in a bit of a dilemma...

Now I'm debating on whether or not I should do something in my own thread to put myself in the Penalty Box just so I can try CarriePie's Vegemite!

I will generously share my Vegemite without you having to go to the Penalty Box! :D You might consider it a penalty enough lol.

I like meatloaf a lot...if I'm the one who made it. I wasn't as keen on my grandmother's or my mother's. They were good cooks. I just think I'm a better cook lol.

On a serious note, I'm just a better cook to my own taste buds. Not saying I'm a better cook than anyone else :p
My wife makes a good meatloaf. Uses oatmeal and tops with ketchup.

I've seen this movie

Not recommended for those who don't like frogs!

They should've had a big frog leg fry.
I saw it too years ago at Fort Polk, Louisiana while participating in a major war exercise during a rare few hours off. Later, when the games were over and the squad was together, they played another type of movie. I won't go into detail on what that movie was about. I will say however that there was not much of a plot. For both movies actually.

Sorry, I couldn't see anything in the time out penalty box.

Some of the YouTube channels don't go through; probably don't get financial credit unless you see it directly on YT. It's an old movie before he was Kirk. It's called Kingdom of the Spiders.
To see the other, you have to click the center of the black screen on the previous post.
