why are some new threads held up for review?

I'm a member of different forums and NEVER have I've seen threads held up for approval. .usually you can report a thread and mods will remove them and the mods are all volunteers like you said and they have many but some related to a specific sub-forum.
I've seen those forums too. Notice I am here and not there. I like it here.

Trust me, waiting a little while is the lesser of two evils here.

Optimally there would be no need for such things, in a perfect world. But as Walgreens says, we are nowhere near perfect. I'm happy with waiting a bit instead of dealing with people starting a lot of junk just to make trouble.

And again, you will notice I am not hanging out on those forums where they do not have this kind of moderation. There is a reason for that. I definitely like it here better.

Yes, holding up new topics for review is a good practice for all the reasons that have been mentioned and i just wanted to say thank you to the admin for doing this "job" everyday with everything else that's going on his life.
