Oddly enough I went into a cheese shop in Switzerland and they didn't have any "Swiss" cheese.
They found out nobody would eat it when they visit Switzerland, because tourists insist on eating only imported cheese. The cheese in Switzerland is domestic. Far inferior.

Somehow I missed this thread.
It depends on what the cheese is for.
Some examples that appeal to my personal taste preferences...
If it's on a Frito chili pie: sharp cheddar
Bagels: toasted Asiago bagel with cream cheese
Ham sandwich: Swiss
Philly cheesesteak bowls: Provolone
Grilled chicken sandwich: Provolone
For a snack: pepperjack, string cheese, etc.
Pizza, stromboli, etc.: mozzarella, also Parmesan
For dishes like chile relleno: queso blanco
Salad: crumbled feta
With crackers: brie
On burgers: Muenster (Muenster is a fave)

I have a good friend who's a great cook -- she made a big pot of mac'n'cheese, and it looked scrumptious -- until she started adding mass amounts of Velveeta cheese cubes. I just couldn't. I don't know why, but I just don't like the product an any other form other than pre-wrapped slices.
:LOL::LOL:

Sometimes I intentionally don't want others in the kitchen with me when I'm cooking for the simple fact that certain people see certain things go into it an are like  .
But if they didn't see it, they likely would've never known and would otherwise enjoy it (yes, I have this conversation in the kitchen and grocery store with my kids quite often  )

This is a really good point.

I've been surprised at how some ingredients I don't like or thought I would hate have blended well with certain things.

But sometimes this "Mom" trick backfires.

My Mom tried feeding my brother some kind of gravy with mushrooms, telling him it was just meat, but he still didn't like it.

And then there was the time she tried to fee us tongue, and also told us it was just meat.

But we saw the suspicious little bumps on it -- and that was enough for us to say "No Thanks!":LOL::p

Almost crying with laughter, being British i interpreted cheesiest as pathetically in ones face, long past its smell by date etc. Such misinterpretations truly rock!

Far less keen on straight cheese than when i was young but Boursin cream cheese with garlic and herbs is still irresistible to me. Can still eat this size pack by just finger dipping! :p

:LOL: it's okay. Made me want to go get some. We were given some back in the Thanksgiving/New Years time frame. It was surprisingly very good. Don't think too much of it made it onto crackers or anything  we were too impatient to wait for it to soften up enough to spread.

I'm not fluent in French (okay! okay! I know almost no French) and had to look that one up. I knew brie was going to be different, but didn't know what to change it to (too early, brains not awake, might need to get some :coffee: here!) and so I just google searched "C'est la brie" and figured it could/would correct for me.

Nope, I was wrong. What googling "C'est la brie" ACTUALLY brought up was

Oh well! C'est la VIE!

Ya know what...
after my last curious quest, I'm not even going to try and cherche this one :p
The original is a common saying, cherche la femme. The literal translation is, look for the woman. Colloquially it means in every mystery, you can probably solve it if you find where and how the woman was involved in it.
