Ham saw his father naked, why Noah cursed Canaan (Son of Ham) instead of Ham?

It doesn't say Ham uncovered his father; Noah was already naked. When Ham saw it he left and told his brothers. The loving thing to do would have been to cover his father like his brothers did; instead he became a talebearer

Thou shalt not go up and down [as] a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I [am] the LORD. Leviticus 19:16
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. Proverbs 11:13
Okay, but why then did Noah curse Canaan?

Hm. I always thought it meant Ham had sex with Noah while he was passed out.
I'll admit, I've always had a hard time making it through Leviticus, but, Magenta brings actual scripture and context that makes more sense. Thank you. Now my question is, is it the same Canaan as the Land of Canaan?

Thank you. Sorry, but this is where my understanding gets fuzzy. So, Joshua conquered Canaan to eradicate the Canaanites. Then, what? When did it become Palestine or Philistine or what not? Was that before or after it was Israel?

It was named Palestine after Israel, but the Philistines lived there befoe Israel arrived. You can easily look up when Palestine got its name (5th century BC I think).

It had nothing To do with Noah being naked. He likelty was not naked/ It was something else that sounds similar.

Lev 18:8 The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

GENESIS 9:20-25
20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:

21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

No person is guilty of the sin of another person and will not bear their iniquity whether father or son.

So why would Canaan be cursed.

Gen 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

But the curse is only to be a servant to the offspring of his brethren and does not apply to wickedness being transferred to them by their father.

Also it was only Canaan and not the other sons for why weren't they cursed too.

Canaan's offspring is the Canaanites that inhabited Israel and the region before the Hebrews took over.

We are cursed by Adam and Eve's sin by having to labor more harshly to supply our food, but we are also cursed with dealing with insects, animals, violent humans, weather, and natural disasters being both dangerous and annoying.

But their sin does not fall upon us but when they ate of the tree it gave them a choice so all their offspring is born with a choice so they are born not knowing God so they will do wrong before they do right and follow God.

But in either instance the offspring is not guilty of their father's sin and have the right to salvation as anyone else.

King David lusted after a man's wife and put her husband in battle so he would die to have his wife.

Which they had a child Solomon which Solomon was not cursed but was blessed by God to be the wisest king in Israel.

It was David and Israel who were cursed with punishment but that was temporary.

In any case like Canaan and the offspring of Adam and Eve the curse would be physical but never to curse them from salvation.

Noah was naked for he was uncovered in his tent and the other 2 sons took a garment and put it on their father.

Your explanation doesn’t account for the curse on Canaan. You have chosen the safe but illogical path.

The Bible does say that no one will be have to pay for their ancestors' sins. Everyone will pay for their own sin. So I'm thinking that Ham's sin of disrespect of his Father's nakedness will somehow be even more amplified in Canaan and that is why Noah cursed what Canaan will do. Which turned out to true - he really was worse than his ancestor.

OR, it was his wife's nakedness that they covered.

Why not just read it as it is instead of all this wild, crazy stuff that is mere speculation?
Because reading it as it is without "all of this wild, crazy stuff" doesn't provide any reason at all why Noah cursed Canaan instead of Ham. You have to make sense of the whole passage, or your interpretation is inadequate and probably wrong.

Noah got drunk. Ham got uppity and wanted to be the head of the household, so he helped himself to Noah's wife, who became pregnant. Canaan was born from that indiscretion. By cursing Canaan, Noah made clear to all that he was not Noah's son.

It's not that big a stretch. Reuben did the same thing with Jacob's wife, only it wasn't couched in such obscure language.

First, I want to clarify that God only tells us what He wants us to know and, therefore, there's a reason we do not know exactly what went on back in the days of Noah.

Having said that, I lean toward the understanding that the sons of God in Gen 6 refers to fallen angels and I believe satan attacked humankind through the woman because God promised in Gen 3:15 that the seed of the woman shall bruise the head of satan. In Gen 6:9 where God says Noah was perfect ... this does not mean Noah was without sin ... I believe it means that Noah's bloodline was genetically pure.

As far as angels being able to procreate with women, we read in Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

And, again, we know as much about angels leaving their own habitation as God allows us to know in His Word. He tells us enough to know that something went on in days of Noah and that something was devilish, evil, and caused God to bring judgment on mankind and wipe out all except Noah and his family.
.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites were talking to God the Father.
And God the Father has his own way to speak to them.

In the New Testament, the jews were talking to Jesus Christ.
And Jesus has his own way to speak to them too.

This is still what God desire today.
We should ask him about his words. And in his own way he will answer our questions.

That is why the answer to the question is still not reveal. It show we are asking man and not God.

What happened to Noah and his family, it is only God who can reveal why Noah Cursed Canaan instead of Ham.

I am reading it all as it is. The father's nakedness could be his own naked body, or it can refer to his wife's naked body. Do you disagree?

No I don't disagree; it could be that, but since it is such an obscure passage and we know so little why do anything other than say "It could be this or that, but since it's so unclear, I really don't know"?
