Hey Everyone!

This thread was inspired by the following conversation going on in the "What Is Your Kryptonite?" thread:

Pie. My kryptonite is pie. To make it more in line with the theme of this thread, somebody who can bake a good pie would be my kryptonite.

*Seoulsearch wonders if she could get away with organizing a Match-Making Event Under the Guise of a Pie-Baking Contest...*

Pie being kryptonite makes a lot of sense to me. I'm a Pie who makes pie!
I enjoy making homemade meringue pie myself.
My favorite is coconut, but I've made all sorts of meringue pies.

Doggone it Carrie! I've already used the line about Saturday night too much. What are you trying to do, make me take out a permit for it?

Please @seoulsearch please invite many fine boys to the matchmaking I am coming ready🤭

Past conversations here have revealed that many singles -- often the men -- DO NOT like matchmaking in any way, shape, or form.

So... Is there a way to get around this??? I'm not saying we should outright try to trick men -- I'm just saying, maybe we ladies just need to think of the right incentives.

What If We Held a Match-Making Session and Tried to Pass It Off as a Pie-Baking Contest -- do you think that would work?? (And Would the Guys Catch On Before It Was Too Late?!)

Be sure to voice YOUR opinion both in the poll answers, AND here in the thread!!

The poll is multiple choice and just for fun, we'll be able to see everyone's answers. :D

Disclaimer: I am NOT in any way trying to insult men's intelligence, discernment, or right to stay as they are.

This thread and poll are meant for fun and entertainment purposes only, and not to start riots or flaming wars. Regular members of the Singles Forum will most likely understand the humor in this thread, but new members -- or those just wanting to play along -- are welcome to join in! :)

PLEASE NOTE: The poll only allows a certain number of answers and I did the best I could with the number of answers available.

This is where YOU come in -- cast your vote in the poll, then COME BACK and tell us everything I wasn't able to say just in the poll choices!! :D

Ladies, are you hearing this??!!

Our plan is working perfectly!

We already have our very first victim, er, I mean, honored male guest.

I'm reminded of a story. When I was growing up, I asked my grandmother on my mother's side to tell me how she and my grandfather got together. She told me about how he'd want to ride with her on the way to school. When I say ride, I mean on a horse lol. Then the school had a picnic auction. Back in those days these were very common. The girls would make a homemade picnic meal and bring them to school. The boys would bid on the picnic girls and they'd have a picnic with the girl they had "won" in the auction. Of course, my grandfather bid on my grandmother. They married young (in their teens) and remained married for over 50 years until my grandfather passed away. His favorite pie was raisin pie. She made a great potpie too.

On my father's side, according to my father, his parents met at a diner. My grandfather was back from the war and there was a diner he really liked to go to. My grandmother was a waitress there. I figure he probably went there to see her as much as he went there for the food, or even more to see her. That diner was still open when I was growing up. Their pies were incredible and were part of what inspired me to make great pies. Their meringues impressed me the most. Now, I'm impressed by my own meringue pies. It's gotten hard to find someone who can make a really good meringue pie. Country cooks are often good at being amazing cooks, but it seems like they are fading away.
I'm told that my great grandmother on my father's side was an amazing pie maker. I never got to me her, but maybe being a good pie maker runs in the family.

Food often brings people together in one way or another. Relationships, friendships, family...food is often present, even through the Bible. It all helps to make life sweeter. Sweet as pie!

Depends. Will there be actual pie to be eaten?

You can try all you want to make matches, but it never seems to work. In the meantime I will come for the pie and then go home.

If the pretense is so hollow that we don't actually GET any pie, I will not stick around long and I will never come back. And I'll leave a one star review.

REALLY?!!!

After ALL THAT EFFORT??!!

Well, I guess one star is better than no stars.

But, I am appalled at one having so little regard over this INGENIOUS idea -- and will now indulge myself with a minute of ugly crying.

That's only if there is no pie. If there is pie I'll give it a five star review. And I'll be back tomorrow.

Yes, yes, you will try to make a match for me tomorrow too. It will fail again and I'll eat more pie. :D

not after you posted that!!!!

I'm kind of hoping it will end up something like this:

And according to the answers we've already seen here, I don't even need a good villain monologue.

All I need are a few pecan pies as a distraction, and the men won't even notice -- or care -- what's really going on!:whistle::LOL:

Let's just have an actual pie contest. Single ladies bake pies, single men are the judges. And maybe we can auction off a baking lesson with each of the bakers to give those first dates a bit of help. Married people and families can have sone of the leftover pie so they don't feel left out.

Now we just need to think of an inverse ploy so the guys can do something stereotypically masculine that the ladies can use / consume. Maybe a grill off or something.

My favorite is apple, but I love all types of pies.

One time my mother had brought me more apples than I could keep up with, so I started using them to make apple pie, apple bread, apple this, and apple that.

I enjoy a variety of pies too. My favorite fruit pie is strawberry rhubarb, favorite meringue pie is coconut, favorite custard type of pie is old fashioned custard, favorite no-bake pie is peanut butter cream pie. But, I like many more than those. Pie shouldn't be so good!

The first lattice apple pie I made. It's not my best looking pie, but it was tasty...

Who cares about best looking? People who care what a pie looks like do not understand the whole reason pie exists. That's like caring if a refrigerator looks like it could go fast.
