It is with genuine trepidation that I am starting this thread. I recently lost someone I cared about while trying to discuss this very thing. I honestly do not know what exactly to believe at this point and I am not, repeat, not asking to be told what to believe. I do not find in the Bible where everyonel is guaranteed healing and I do not see where God has some kind of quota on how much faith it takes to be healed. Obviosuly then, I am not in agreement with the WOF people. I don't care to be told that it is my fault if I am not healed (ps I am not waiting for a miracle of healing the convo I had involved someone that really needed healing) I have experienced a good number of what I guess I will call 'God interventions' and I certainly have the faith to ask God anything and we are encouraged to pour out our hearts to Him...love that verse in the Psalms

I cannot control this thread or demand people do not get all hot and bothered by what someone else says but for the love of God (literally I am not swearing), please try to be the person you demand others to be. I sure hope sincere and intelligent input might be achieved and of course scripture but also opinions and experience, understanding that experience is not proof of anything. It certainly is to the one who experiences it, but we cannot offer that as proof to those who have not.

Okay, so let's take the plunge if you are willing, hoping a few might be. I do have some things to say if the thread develops, so I pray that you can help me resolve some of what I currently am thinking about and even feeling. Thanks

One more thing though, I really dislike trite answers and people talking down to others so if that is your thing, I doubt I will respond but I am sure you will offend someone else enough to do it for me ;) Oh and videos mocking others or 'exposing' faith healers are also just plain dumb as I can view those myself any ole good time I want. I've probably not seen it all, but I have seen enough.

You are quite right regarding healing not being guaranteed.
The only thing God guarantees is physical death and ultimate justice,
which is the reason we sinners need salvation or healing from sin and its consequence.

Are you still a sinner? Reflect on what scripture teaches. There is a cure for that. We kind of guaranteed our own death and much of the population seems to be in a race to get there. You make God sound like he is just waiting to let us have it.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. II Cor. 5:21 among many scriptures that teach us about our new life in Christ. This thread is not about that though so kindly don't make it so just like you do not want others to mess up your threads.

It is on spiritual gifts..but mainly on prophecy, tongues and knowledge gifts ceasing.

Regards to 'people ' claiming healing..I have experienced some say they had a miracle healing..and the ailment they had returns. If it really were a biblically healing..it would be 100 percent. As I said.. if pain was there it would be a new problem.

That's because its God doing the healing..if it were miraculous.

There is also God 'dealing with the balances'..which is what I think God does most commonly today.. where someone may have a 50 50 chance of death..or losing a limb..and God influences the healing to have no death and the limb to heal.

Spiritual healing. .. yeah..that's going on all the time. Thru salvation and sanctification :)

Again you are referencing personal experience/bias so that does not qualify for the desire to understand as I said in my op. Case studies? Personal testimonies of those healed who relapsed and keeled over? But nothing. I didn't know God was in the business of balances, whatever that is. Your contributions are duly noted as well as your cessationist take on 3 of the spirtual gifts.

This thread was never about that so perhaps you might move on if that is all you have to contribute. I said in my op I was not going to deal with responses that are trite and in the case of whether or not we have continued spiritual gifts, your response is typical of the understanding of far too many on this planet. Guess I will just not bother again, not withstanding the subject is off topic and I don't think this forum needs another debate on tongues etc.

No don't do that. No one should do that.

Don't start the nonsense of deciding you don't like this or that response and put your little xs and faces all over the place. Find some maturity and understand this is not a debate thread so act like the adult I am sure you are and take it to a debate. This is not a debate and if you treat it that way, it shows you either did not read my op or you are just going to do the typical thing here and see how much you can derail what has been an otherwise productive and meaningful conversation at least to me.

I don't know who the he is that is here, but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Try to afford others the liberty to discuss without your personal bias being illustrated in the form of the usual x, thumbs down and all the other handy dandy expressions we have been provided with for those who have nothing to say but must needs comment anyway.

Read the op. You obviously have not done so. It is not about tongues or prophecy etc.

Nothing he wrote was trite.

I came across an interesting blog called 'Grace for Healing' while researching things about healing online. The author considers and writes about 4 different ways God heals today. Following is a graphic from that site.

I have come across this before and while the obvious miraculous healing (instant) is one acknowledgement, the entire spectrum of healing is attributed to God. If this thread does not go on a downward spiral because of the last few contributions, maybe those could be looked at and considered. I'm not going to belabor the points of my op but I'm just not going to entertain what really is not a part of what I was hoping to discuss either. If that is the way it goes, my interest will also go but thanks very much to everyone who gave some thought and answered honestly with the same.

Well, Paul did not claim to be perfect (Phil. 3:12), and so neither should we
although we are forgiven because of faith in the righteousness/atonement of Christ--
and YOU need to be kind as much as anyone.

On dealing with the balances..this is where you see someone who is a believer..or has believers pray for them..and they have an ailment that needs healing.

The situation might be where they have only a small chance of surviving..or like I say could lose a limb.

God works in the process..and changes the odds toward healing and recovery.

This is the way the organization i work with mostly runs as a faith based mental health support org.

Healing is a finished work of Jesus Christ for the Believer ----Your Already Healed Folks

True Christians You should not be praying for healing ---they should Praise and Thank God for the Healing that is already available to the Believer -----and Receive it -----

You need to receive what is already done by and through Christ's Faith which embodies the Believer through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit ---

Healing does not happen by our Faith Folks -----there is only one Faith and the one faith comes from Christ and is inbirthrd when you Read the Scripture ----the more your in the Scripture ---the deeper and more effective His faith in us becomes -----

God's Grace made available Spiritual and Physical healing and the Faith of Christ which embodies the believer receives it ----

Jesus Took all Sickness and Disease with Him on the Cross ------

AI Overview

The statement "healing is a finished work" is a theological concept within Christianity, asserting that Jesus's atonement on the cross, culminating in His declaration "It is finished!" (John 19:30), purchased healing from sickness and disease for all believers.

This view holds that healing was a provision for believers in the new covenant, not a future promise, and it is received through Christ's faith.

Key Aspects of This Belief:
  • Prophetic Foundation:
The belief is rooted in prophecies like Isaiah 53:5, which states, "...and by His stripes we are healed," indicating physical healing was part of Jesus's suffering and sacrifice.

  • Atonement for Sickness:
The finished work of the cross is understood to include not only the atonement for sin but also the provision for physical and emotional healing.

  • Faith as the Channel:
Believers access this provision through Christ's faith, which activates the power of God.

  • A Present Reality:
Unlike the Old Covenant, where healing was often future-oriented, under the New Covenant, it is a present-day reality available to those who believe.

  • Victory Over Sickness:
This perspective sees healing as an outcome of Christ's victory over death and all forms of affliction, including sickness.
Scriptural Support:
  • Isaiah 53:5:
"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows... and by His stripes we are healed."

  • John 19:30:
Jesus's final words on the cross, "It is finished!" (John 19:30), are seen as a confirmation that the entire work of redemption, including healing, was completed.

  • 1 Peter 2:24:
"He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness! By His wounds, you have been healed!
More scriptures here I added

Isaiah 53:4
Christian Standard Bible
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted

Matthew 8:17
New American Standard Bible
This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR ILLNESSES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

Well, Paul did not claim to be perfect (Phil. 3:12), and so neither should we
although we are forgiven because of faith in the righteousness/atonement of Christ--
and YOU need to be kind as much as anyone.

Some things never change.

Praying for someone else to be healed requires Intersessional prayers -----

But know this Folks ===there is Protocol for ANY Answered Prayer ---- given to you in Scripture -----Many things can Block your Prayers ---like Doubt ---unforgiveness --fear based prayers ------and many more things all listed in Scripture ----and Satan blocked Daniel's Prayer in Daniel 10:13 ----

So make sure you have mastered all the things that can block your Prayer so you can be sure you prayer is answered -----

AI
An "intersessional prayer for healing" refers to a prayer for the health and recovery of others, where a person prays on behalf of someone else, a practice known as intercession. Such prayers ask for divine intervention to mend physical, emotional, or spiritual ailments, often seeking God's mercy, strength, and comfort for the ailing person and their caregivers.

Very familiar with this line of approach and glad you brought it up. Do you include medical intervention in this regard? I'm asking because I know people who will approach the entire idea of healing with exactly the above and then say that if you receive medical answers then that would be how God is healing you. Sadly, I have known at least one person who died in bed in the hospital believing it would be a sin to receive medical help because would not honor that and they would not be healed.

What to you mean by the term 'TRUE CHRISTIANS'? If a person does not agree the way another thinks they should, does that mean that the Christian in disscent is not a TRUE Christian? Not sure what AI has to do with anything?

See, the thing is that I do believe that God can and sometimes does, intervene and directly heal a person but that does not seem to be the norm not withstanding that He is more than able. Jesus had to die for our sin but He healed all who came to Him BEFORE His death and we also have healing in the OT.

In no way shape or form do I wish to argue but I will ask the hard questions; I ask them of myself all the time. And I raise an eyebrow at the use of the term REAL Christians.

Satan blocked Daniel's Prayer in Daniel 10:13 ----

Yet Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for us. It seem that protocol #1 would be faith and not a forumula

Let me ask. Are you by any chance an Apostolic believer or a part of the NAR? Why are you going to AI? honestly wondering about that

Thanks for your input.

Yet Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for us. It seem that protocol #1 would be faith and not a forumula

Protocol #1 is Christ's Faith ---it must be grounded and rooted in Him though ----willy nilly wavering Faith will not get your prayers answered ----

Protocol for answered Prayer is not a formula -----it is God' telling you how to have answered Prayer ----do some research yourself ----if you don't want to follow what God says then that is your right but don't be surprised if your prayers don't get answered -----cause there is a good number of things that God warns will block your prayers from being answered ---

A lot of unbelievers believe they can pray to God and get their prayers answered ---but God says different in Isaiah 59 ----sin turns God's Face away from sinners ----and for true Christians when we sin and do not openly confess it --it can block your prayers -----

Let me ask. Are you by any chance an Apostolic believer or a part of the NAR?

I will keep you Guessing :D

Why are you going to AI?

Why are you asking ---DON"T YOU LIKE AI ----- seems to spout out some good spiritual knowledge in my view -----

What to you mean by the term 'TRUE CHRISTIANS'?

OH MY ___if your asking that Question ----your in serious trouble my friend -----

Anyone can call themselves a Christian ----most are False Christians ---Read the book of Acts --Paul describes false and true Christians very well ---

True Christ-ians have received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and have the indwelling of the Holy--Spirit ----but not all who call themselves Christians are True Christians ----they are wolves in sheep clothing ----so be careful of some who call themselves Christians ---

Thanks for your input.

Your Welcome -----

Sometimes a sickness can rob you of your independence, but that independence can rob you from God.
A lesson I've learned after many years of asking and wondering.
I've been healed from stage 3 cancer not by hands layed but by direction from the Lord seeking medical intervention.
I submitted myself to the elders for prayer of healing but it came in the form of medical intervention.
I've been cancer free for 15 yrs but the cost of it was life changing. After 2 major surgeries and radiation and chemo my body suffered
Alot of truma. My kidney, liver and pancreas decided to decrease there function. Causing me to lose weight and muscle mass.
From 220lbs to 143lbs in just 2 months. I couldn't even turn over in bed on my own without struggling.
Chronic pancreatic pain which comes and goes severe stomach pains and fatigue haunt me to this day. My quality of life has taken a hit.
But what I've learned is just what I stated in the beginning.
I used to plan my days, my weekends and well never really gave God a minute of thought, sure I fellowshipped and such but on my terms and when I felt like it.
Long story short I saw in me a very prideful self centered un grateful person who needed to be humbled. Taking advantage of God's grace. I can say truthfully he loved me so much to humble me. Kept me from death and now when the bad days come upon me I rely on his strength to see me through.
Who knows how far I would of gone away from him or what I would become if I regained my independence.
Love always has a answer we just have to seek it. One of the best scriptures that helps me daily is Paul's wisdom

Hi again. Thank you; I appreciate your words to me. In question in this thread was what scripture actually says about physical healing. People are not agreed on it. (as can be seen reading the responses or doing a search or even people we know) I believe God is concerned with our physical health as well and just how we are in general.

Beloved, I pray you to prosper concerning all things and to be in good health, just as your soul prospers. III John 1:2 I think we have a responsibility to take care of ourselves but at the same time we live in a fallen world and physical death is coded into our dna. When we receive Christ we receive new life, in the spirit as our spirits are reunited with God who is Spirit. John, indicates or seems to indicate that prosper (and I am not meaning what is referred to as the 'properity gospel' because if there is one thing humans seem quite capable of, is taking a good thing and then taking it to places it was never meant to go. ie: God does not garantee we should all be rich etc) is connected to our souls and prospers in our new life in Christ (if I understand that right) Still, all things is all things but that does not identify God as Santa. It doesn't mean we are going to have some kind of perfect life on this earth with no worries; in fact, quite the opposite is often enough the norm for Chrisitans as press against the current world systems in place. Well now I am getting complicated a bit. That particular verse is referred to as being part of the biblical 'proof' that God wants to heal everyone by some circles.

Can you, will you go through what Jesus has done once for everyone? Now seen as risen, as reported is from the disciples, in the Bible.
Can you or are you a Job in the book of Job? What will you stand in? Belief or not?
I see, no matter what happens here on earth, to not deny God. Yes, we all go through troubles, as each person's trouble(s) are more acknowledgeable to self over anyone else's. Now Father and Son saw, sees we are all worthy of love. So he sent Son to save us all in his risen life for us. The death was first, a willing death to fulfill the Law and Prophets of himself to save us in love to all, as the response to God Father of risen Son, to me at least. No longer under the curse in my first born flesh, thanks to the risen Son given me to see humbly
