If you are referring to James, that was written to saved brothers who did not meet their brothers need when they were able.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
The chapter is telling believers to apply their fair to common challenges like helping a brother going through a tough season of life.
There is a LOT of work to do as a Christian. After all the book starts out with that concept.
It doesn't change half way through to turn into an evangelistic book like John.
We have to interpret dead faith as the sort of faith that is unprofitable as believers who are saved by the grace of God without the deeds of the law.
Unbelievers need to John 3:16.
Believers need to James chapters 1-5 + every other book of the Bible.

John 15 verse 16 ~ You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit— fruit that will remain— so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.

John 3
The gift of salvation/ Everlasting Life is just that, it is everlasting. Those trusting James epistle's commands for believers need to repent (change their minds).
All those works won't save anyone.
The requirement is to believe/ faith in Jesus Christ without our works of righteousness.
That's saving faith.
Dead faith is the useless faith that the saved are often guilty of.
There are times we can and should help our brothers and sisters, but we don't. That's dead faith.

when you say "dead faith", to me, its means people who are unsaved, an atheist in other words. if that's what you mean, only once is the answer. OSAS! ( Once Saved Always Saved ). people can only be saved once.
From the way the OP worded his survey, it sounds as if he misunderstands James 2.

Those who reject osas and salvation through faith in Christ, they use a couple verses from James 2 as their works based proof texts.
I can't recall any other passages with "dead faith" mentioned.

If a person claims faith but has never once acted upon their claimed belief other than words spoken or typed....they don't have any faith.
It's really simple....not complicated.
There is no plural in "fruit of the Spirit".
It's singular....meaning only ONE fruit even if it's described in many ways of gentleness, forgiveness, kindness, long-suffering and etc.
You either have it or you don't.
Now this is also related to capacity.
There are those who are thimble sized and those 55 gallon barrel sized.
And this capacity is similar to muscleS. You can gain capabilities by exercising what you have. But atrophy sets in rather quickly.

See it deeper, ask Father in prayer in your own closet, between Father and you in risen Son for you to be able now to enter the throne of grace, thanks to Son's don e work first. Done once for us all Hebrews 10:10
All that is left is to believe Son is risen for you too, thank you Father

So many get this wrong unfortunately, but this is exactly what James was clearly teaching in his letters to THE Brethren.
I checked out post number 5 and the poll and see that HealthAndHappiness didn't reveal to us how many times those of dead faith can choose to accept Jesus and be saved. HealthAndHappiness isn't very confident.

They are saved, salvation is an event, completed once in real time, Jesus THE Christ says so.
