Do protestants have a reasonable non-Roman-Catholic explanation for John 20:22-23?

This is well demonstrated on how you disprove the Catholic Church.
I didnt bring up vestal virgins. Your desperation is showing. Try thinking for yourself.

Arn't christians are body of Christ and Jesus is the head?
So you are the index toe and the one who put up Vestal Virgins is the little toe. You still have responsibility.
For if you were not agreed with him, you should voice out. Silence is approval.

That's why you see I am very busy here.

None of the Catholics would worship a Pope too.
Oh, but they do. Just watch the videos of crowds hailing him whenever he makes an appearance. Whether or not Catholics are taught to do so is beside the point; they do, and the popes don't actively and immediately discourage it.

Hmm, no comment about Pontifex Maximus from the resident Roman?

Here’s more from the link:

The pontifex maximus (Latin for 'supreme pontiff')[1][2][3] was the chief high priest of the College of Pontiffs (Collegium Pontificum) in ancient Rome. This was the most important position in the ancient Roman religion

and a little bit further…

The title of pontifex maximus was adopted by the Catholic Church for the pope as its chief bishop and appears on buildings, monuments and coins

The Romans created a Christian church patterned after their familiar polytheistic religious system. It’s all there in history if anyone has an interest in seeing it.

They kiss his feet .
You watched too much movies and TV dramas on middle ages. This is no longer practiced today.

In a contrary, it is Pope who kisses the foot of lay-people.

This is a sign of respect and not because the crowd see Pope as divine being.

Back then , the crowd hailed not because the Beatles were GODS

That’s an utterly ridiculous comparison.

It explains why we need intercessors.
Private prayer doesn’t need a choir. We don’t need intermediaries. Intercessors are not the same thing, and Scripture mocks those who seek the dead on behalf of the living.

I see you are just chanting, not debating.
