For years I've always wondered what people are speaking of specifically when they reply to a prayer request with "Praying"

When you ask them what they mean by that most everyone you ask gets upset that they are being asked about this as though they really have no idea what it means to pray biblically and they are just following the crowd so to speak saying what they see others say. Praying!

Here's some instructions and thoughts from what the Lord Jesus says in the Word of God concerning prayer:

John 16:23-27 - And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

Clearly we see Jesus saying we are to pray directly to the Father in the Name of Jesus and we are instructed believe "Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you" which is rarely what people are doing when they pray. Most are just hoping, not asking and believing.

Concerning whatsoever, we are ask in prayer according to God's Word, according to what He has promised and not according to carnal desires. We see in James 4:3 that some do not receive because that ask wrongly that they may receive according to their own lusts.

We should be bringing God's promises to Him in prayer, basing what we are asking for and believing for on His promises found in the Word of God.

Isaiah 43:26 - Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou may be justified.

We are to declare what God says in His Word if we want the Lord to agree with what we are praying. Praying based on anything other than what God has promised in His Word is an exercise in futility because they is not prayer in agreement with what the Lord says. What God promises is His Will, as in it's what He wants and His children are called to walk after the leading of the Holy Spirit meaning we are to live in agreement with Him and not in agreement with this dark world's ways of being and doing right

Mark 11:23-26 - For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Here we see Jesus telling us to speak to our mountain (problem we cannot move ourselves) which is in agreement with Isaiah 43:26 for us to declare that we may be justified. Declare what? What the Lord has promised in His Word. Declare God's will.

In Mark 11:23-26 we are instructed by the Lord to not only speak to the problem, but to also told by the Lord that if we doubt not in our heart and believe those things which we are saying - God's promises, God's will - then we shall have whatsoever we say.

Then notice how Jesus gives us HIS personal promises saying because of what He just said in Mark 11:23, Jesus tells us "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." This is Jesus acting on Mark 11:23 Himself and it's His Personal promise that is we BELIEVE what He is telling us, we shall have what we are praying. (and let's forget the modern word of faith junk because James 4:3 disqualifies asking to satisfy our own desires - this is about praying according to the will of the Lord based on what He has promised)

Many if not most have not noticed Jesus is giving His personal guarantee that we will have what we are praying for IF we believe when we pray.

Notice that we are to believe when we pray, not when we see the manifestation of what we are asking for. WHEN WE PRAY! Remember that the the just shall live by faith (Hebrews 10:38,Habakkuk 2:4), and we are to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), and let's not forget we are to follow Abraham's model of faith that he got from walking with the Lord in that we are to like God, call things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17)

In other words we are to say what God says and expect the Lord to watch over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12) because He is not a liar. (Hebrews 6:18)

John 15:7 - If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Christians are to abide in the Lord and allow His Word to abide in us and if we are doing this then we will receive what we pray for because we would be living according to the leading of the Holy Spirit Who never disagrees with God's Word so we would not be asking for things that are not His will.

There of course is much more to unpack concerning the topic of prayer and it's saddening to see so many mindless praying not having e3ven studied the topic to make an attempt to pray according to what the Lord says in His Word.

Another saddening thing about this topic is there's no need for catholics or calvinists to even bother praying because both groups have been indoctrinated by the religion that they follow to not believe what the Lord tells us in His Word.

The catholics believe they are supposed to pray to Mary and dead saints in their efforts to get others to pray for them which they do because they don't even know the Father not having become born again believers. Remember Jesus tell us to pray directly to the Father in the Name of Jesus so the catholics aren't willing to do what Jesus instructs His people to do.

And the calvinists because God has already decided long before He ever created mankind everything that will happen and will cause everything that happens to happen and they claim the Lord decided who will be saved and who will be dammed all in advance which is not even close to being biblical. Calvinists assume man was not created in God's Image because they don't believe man has free will, so calvinists won't be interested in this thread or catholics either.

On the other hand maybe those following these religious groups will consider what the Lord says in His Word!

Jesus' words in Matthew 17:20-21
Faith the size of a mustard seed moved the mountain of my unbelief. .:)

Prayer is the constant, one on one communication He desires we maintain with Him to the point our whole lives come in line with Him, He modeled this as He only did and said what He saw the Father do and say.
When you roll over at night and have a hymn playing in your head, your mind is stayed on Him.

He modeled this as He only did and said what He saw the Father do and say

That's a major point concerning what prayer should be is doing and saying what we hear the Lord do and say.

I hear a lot of people "praying" but they have no basis for what they are praying other than wishful thinking.

We should go to God's Word and stand on His promises and when we pray we should pray what God has already promised in His Word since the answer is already in His Word.

When someone posts in the prayer section that they would like others to pray for them and others come along as say "praying"

It's pretty meaningless really because "praying" isn't going to the Father in Jesus' Name based on something the Lord has promised in His Word that would cover whatever situation the person needs prayer for.

Wouldn't it make sense to do what Jesus did and say and do what the Father does in prayer?

Matthew18-19-20s.png

Matthew 18 v 19-20 I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.

As I see from Father and Son as Won (One) for us all to choose to believe God or not in Son as risen for us all.
I see there is Prayer, and Preyer. I see there is Belief to God Father personally in risen Son. There are fakes as well
So pray to Father and ask to be made wise as a serpent, to see, instantly, and remain harmless as a a dove and deliver Father's love in Son for us all to all, boldly, not madly. Where the salvation is at, is in risen Son, not in the dead one, that got done once for us all first, to be reconciled 2 Cor 5:17-20 first. Before any new life would or could be given to anyone. God took away sin, that is done by Son for us all John 1:29, as we by God are all reconciled Eph 1:6.7 to believe God and be sealed by God to see this truth over a lifetime of mistakes made Eph 1:13, wanting to know truth over error, thank you
God does not give up on us. Has not since day 1 in the first Adam's fall. God has not changed in love to us all y'all, thank you

The problem with your post is that Jesus prayed and taught us to pray for God's will to be done,
not for folks to feel guilty for not having enough faith to make God do our will like He is our genie.

I receive much better results when speaking/reminding of His promises, the first time He gave me the words as I stepped out in faith. He responded with the miraculous.
He have a great understanding, friend.

New person. Liberal amounts of judgment and criticism thrown around. Abundant Scripture to back up their view, and suspicious absence of Scripture that tempers or contradicts their view.

Gee... what a novel approach! I've never seen this kind of opening before.

If someone really "does not have enough faith" then that would be their fault would it not?
They have no developed their faith so that's on them seeing the Lord "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue" 2 Peter 1:3

God does not give up on us

2 Timothy 2:12 - If we deny Him, He also will deny us

Remember, we reap what we sow according to God's Word.

So the lesson should be to not quit and if we screw up we should repent immediately and get back on course walking with the Lord once again and grow spiritually so we quit getting off track into sin and living after the flesh following our own carnal desires instead of living to please the Lord desiring what He wants.

Making excuses for not knowing God's Word and not walking with the Lord isn't going to work out very well at all.

I hope you continue growing spiritually and get past making excuses

Proverbs 1:20-33 - Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

He have a great understanding, friend.

He certainly does have great understanding and the Lord is trying to share them with His people, but some keep balking

1 Corinthians 2:9-16 - But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Wow, God is not a vending machine

When the Lord makes promises, does He not honor them?

That would be unbelief which is making the decision to not accept God's promises.

Did you not know and understand that God's promises ARE His will, and praying what He has promised is praying according to His will???

Thanks. You just confirmed my observations.

You should get acquainted with God's promises and start walking in them

stand in trust to Father for us all to straighten out us all

Do you really think that it's God's fault that so many Christians are living far far below what the Lord has for His people?

Apparently you do because you are saying God needs to straighten us all out.

How about Christians start submitting themselves unto the Lord, learning of His Word, choosing to walk in agreement with Him and quit being carnally minded following fables of men that can only generate false teachings?

When are Christians going to learn we are to be co laborers with the Lord working together with Him? 1 Corinthians 3:9
