Its funny I read posts like #495 and Luke 18: 9-14 comes to mind.
Folks who trust in themselves that they are righteous, and despise others/look down on others are those who are self righteous. In contrast with those who in humility, are unwilling to raise their eyes toward heaven, and beat their chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

Guess which one walks away justified?

The pharisee is as certain as you are. The repugnance is unsightly

Thank God for you for reminding me how smug I don't want to be before him.

I certainly did not come to God trusting in myself that I am righteous, boasting in my works, but in humility, beating my chest saying, "God be merciful to me a sinner!" and I received Jesus Christ through faith. (Romans 4:5-6; Philippians 3:9) ✝️

Fear and bondage? Why would you be afraid if you were doing what you know you're supposed to do? It never cease to amaze me just how much people can actually ignore.
@mailmandan believes the CC is like a roller coaster ride.

And to think that they even have confession available !!

You coulda beat your chest in the CC.
There's faith available there too ya know.

But, yeah, they tend to teach about how we're not supposed to be sinful.

Some don't like this teaching.

One thing is for sure, we would not have come to Him unless called:

1Pet 2:9-10
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

I have no problem with the teaching that we are not supposed to live sinful lives. That certainly is what we are to strive for as Christians. (1 John 3:9-10) Unfortunately, I knew many Catholics who did not practice what they preached. Live like a party animal all week, then run to confession on Sunday.

Romans 8:30 - Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

We protestants, OTOH, are perfect.

We even join forums and teach that it's not really necessary to obey God.
You know...John 3:36 doesn't really mean what it means.

I think that if we're going to be wrong about God and what He expects....
it should be on the side of obedience.
With no doubt.

Are you a calvinist now?
You do realize those are calvinist verses?

Call just mans to invite.

God invites everyone.

I take issue with your remark. I don't know anyone who has said it's not necessary to obey God. What is stated and is scriptural is that Christians are no longer under the Law of Moses. Tell me one person on this forum who has said that obedience to God is not necessary? The Law is not God. Some of the legalists on this forum idolise the law. They are in for a shock when they stand before Lord Jesus.

I never said that protestants were perfect. I was just sharing my personal experience that I had in the Roman Catholic church.

In regard to John 3:36, those who do not obey the Son are those who do not believe in/on the Son. The KJV renders this same verse as: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that "believeth not the Son" shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. The NIV says "rejects the Son" and the HCSB says, "refuses to believe in the Son."

The Greek word translated as "believeth not" in that verse is apeitheo and it means: "not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving." Strong’s definition of apeitheo is "to disbelieve willfully and perversely." In the context of 3:36, to "not obey the Son" means to reject the Son by refusing to believe in the Son. This is in harmony with (John 3:15,16,18; 6:40,47; 11:25,26)

I'm actually not a Calvinist and Romans 8:30 is scripture. I don't promote fatalistic determination.

Well speak for yourself on both issues. You will find no one on this forum (and I have been here years longer than my avatar info suggests) that has ever said we can sin like a boatload of pagan sailors and disregard the fact that we are to keep ourselves as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Yet, people with a high regard for their own opinion, without any proof of their claims, come on board and say things such as you are saying in the post I have quoted.

Which forums have you frequented wherein people are told it's ok to sin away with no consequences as long as once upon a time you said Jesus was your Savior.

Put up or...well...close your beak.

Same in the Prot churches Dan.

Have you not had any of THOSE experiences?

Whateva.
You know very well I'm tired of this.

It says those who believe will be saved.

ONLY THE SAVED NEED OBEY.

It says those that do obey will see the wrath of God.

in Catholicism.
In Protestantism.

Belief is necessary for salvation...
ONLY obedience is not salvific.

John 3:36 is speaking about believers.

The Greek word translated as "believeth not" in that verse is apeitheo and it means: "not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving." please read just above and think.
