Some thing I have heard of lately on CC and witnessed around me and in my faith community are men saying. they are not searching. I have a young colleague at 28 saying he is not searching and his complain is it is tiring to search.
It breaks my heart sincerely, He is young and worldly women have become predators to men of God.
in 10 or 20 men who may ask me out on a date, none is a believer.
My questions are

- what seems to be the problem? because its alarming at this rate half of the church will be single by 2050,

- should women start chasing men, is that allowed?

- will you enjoy being chase by a woman if you are a man?

I am beginning to think singles need to be put in marriage through speed dating, blind dates arrange marriages and many more.

I sincerely believe the problem and vices of the Society today are a result of the high rate of loneliness, lack of love leading to addictions and the likes. An experiment has shown that the more we are with people the less we think and keep destructive habits.
So no matter how single hood is comfortable I keep promoting and encouraging Christlike relationships for others and myself because it sincerely reduces the deviation of the Society.

My opinion please so come at me with brotherly love ahbeg

I think the way that Ruth went about obtaining Boaz (or winning his heart, and a marriage proposal) was influenced by her Mother-in-law Naomi.
They too were desperate - Naomi for a grandchild, and Ruth for a roof over her head and food!

Imagine a famine killing all your men. Women had to do what they had to do to survive. If Ruth never initiated, Boaz would have got cold feet. But notice Boaz deliberatly kept Ruth away from the other young unmarried men so that he could have her for herself (or she wouldn't get distracted from her work)

In the new Testament, because we are in AD now and God extends his grace and forgiveness to everyone via Jesus, there is no pressure to marry. But to avoid fornication, Paul encouraged everyone who was going to burn out with passion to marry and have their own husband or wife.

He didn't specify that it was only men who had to initiate things. For example, when Jesus was at the well a Samaritan woman was there and she talked to him! But it was ok, he wasn't trying to seduce her. She was understandably suspicious. Jesus asked where is your husband and then the story came tumbling out.

It could be the story of a lot of divorced singles. She'd had 5 husbands, which is a lot! I don't think they all died....she would have been a very unlucky black widow if that had happened.
I think by that time she was living with her sixth, she was kinda over marriage.

Its definitely ok to be Christian and single, and also have friends and not be lonely just because you are unmarried. Friendship and fellowship amongst Christians is more important than relationship - Lord knows how hard marriage can be.

I think a lot of people idealise marital relationships. If having children is important to you, by all means, find a husband or wife that would make a good dad or mum. You will need to suffer the little children though and childbirth and raising children is not a piece of cake. Didn't Paul say it was good to be unmarried.

I like the example of Ruth and Boaz. Boaz displayed care toward Ruth, without any strings attached, and Ruth made the "offer," but she didn't do so without Naomi's approval, and encouragement. There's probably something in a good lesson in that last part.
Like, "Mom, what do you think of this guy? I think he likes me."

Hi Edith!

This is a great topic, and I agree, it's heartbreaking.

I really wonder what God wants for His people regarding marriage, because fewer and fewer people are interested in getting married. Not just out of rebellion (though of course sometimes that could be,) but I think many of us have seen all the things that can go wrong in a marriage and that the church often makes things worse (all the stigmas and condemnation,) and are often terrified of getting ourselves into the same situations.

For example, I have known people who started out in healthy-looking marriages that became abusive behind closed doors, but it was insisted that they stay, no matter how much harm was being done. In some cases, the abuse was sexual, and who wants to have to try to explain to anyone that you are leaving your sexually abusive spouse? Not only is it no one's business, but no one should have to bring public shame on themselves for getting out of such a terrible situation (just my own opinion.) But yet, people will judge. And judge, and judge.

In addition to this, I think a lot of women have become very demanding of what they believe Christian husbands need to be. (I plan to write a thread on this in the future, but I'm still working out the details I want to include.) I have heard it said that Christian women could meet Jesus Himself, and He still wouldn't be good enough for their expectations.

I've had guy friends show me dating profiles of women who expect men to provide a wife premium, luxury, stay-at-home lifestyles because, "God designed men to be providers." Now I understand that many Christians believe the proper Christian family should have a stay-at-home Mom and working Dad, but I just don't think it's possible anymore.

What kind of man wants that kind of pressure, especially at a time when expenses are going through the roof, work is hard to find, and no one's job is secure? I'm not even a man, and I wouldn't choose that kind of stress at this point in my life. I had a small taste of that life when I dated an alcoholic with kids who got to where he couldn't work or care for them anymore, and I was paying for almost everything. He only survived by living with his family.

Now of course, this was a bit different because we weren't married and there was a lot of dysfunction, but I can only imagine that a lot of marriages are going to run into a lot of financial pressures (money issues are often cited as the #1 cause of divorce, Christian or not.)

I've seen lists of some women's demands, and I tell my guy friends, "I couldn't even imaging trying to be friends with someone who thinks like this -- that everything revolves around her -- let alone try to suggest she date someone I know."

But I've heard some women talk about how they are God's princesses, and how they deserve a "true man of God," who can provide everything they need and want. (Praise God my women friends are not like this at all!)

And of course I have plenty of my own selfishness and flaws -- which is a good reason why I'm not married.

On the flipside, I often find that Christian men demand beautiful, flawless-looking women who will forever stay looking 25, even after birthing and raising all their children, because "God made men visual, so I must have, and deserve, a gorgeous wife."

I have often said that the Christian dating scene is even worse than the secular one, because everyone believes they have God on their side. Many Christian singles hold fast to the belief that, "God only wants THE BEST for me, and He's going to give me MY idea of THE BEST."

In other words, not only do Christian singles have a lot of the same issues as singles in the world, some use God to back them up -- and we can all see where it's going. Everyone is staying single. And even the ones who are getting married are often splitting up.

But, these are just my own observations, and this is just my opinion.

I wish there was something more optimistic I could say.

I think realistically it’s hard for either sex to find a compatible partner who is seeking a godly one. Without seeking a godly one there is no hope. Seek if someone has no morals at all how does anyone match that? How do you find common ground? It basically turns into coin tosses when major decisions are involved. If you both have Christ to look to. It’s a common goal. Your decisions live through Christ. So it gives you a much better chance at making it work.

Too the part of chasing men. I don’t think it should be called chasing. Yes a man is more driven to chase or pursue. It’s in our DNA. However I don’t find a lot of women worth pursuing. Why. Well most that aren’t godly, prefer going out, instagram, keeping up with everyone, spending thousands on Botox, nails, aesthetics that aren’t real. Now this is a short list. And men nowadays that aren’t living for god chase other materials. Cars, ego driven behavior or wants. You see there isn’t much value here. Men don’t want to call and put in the effort regardless of being rejected. And women mostly don’t want to spend the time on the phone getting a call. Most want to build a relationship through Snapchat or text. Talk about little to nothing of substance. Then wonder why they have nothing in common. I think it’s shouldn’t be so confusing. If a man like a woman, pursue who in a way until it’s clear she’s interested or not interested. And same goes with women. Make it clear you’re interested, very clear. A lot of men can’t read signs or over analyze. If a woman likes a man I say go for it. Mostly the man will say yes. Men don’t get approached so when they do it’s flattering and more likely to go well then bad. I think we’ve made dating to complex with dating apps and social media. So called dating experts giving advice. When they themselves haven’t dated really or haven’t been married. I see these movements by men. Giving dating advice and all they’ve done is sleep with girls. That’s not dating at all.
Gone are the days when boy met girl, boy asked girl, girl said yes, and boy and girl got married. Boy and girl stayed married.

I think alot of the worlds problems have started when we began picking our bible less and less. Look at each decade after world war 2. Each decade god got put on the back burner and each decade sin became more cool.

Something Seoul brought up ..sexual abuse in marriage. It's not talked about much because it's taboo.
But I feel it needs to be talked about. It doesn't happen just in marriages but also dating. I suppose in dating when it happens there is an easier way out - you are not bound together.
But in marriage, divorce can be a very expensive thing. It requires you to go to court and testify, plus custody battles if you have children, and settlements.

What I want to say, I think there is issues about consent, about what a man wants, what a woman wants and what they both want. Ideally it should be mutual, right? But often it's one sided.

Love-making should just be that - about love. It may or may not involve ahem intercourse
Sex or lust is something else and many women are hurt by some the things men want to do with their bodies. Not just emotionally but physically. This doesn't mean to say a woman can hurt a man, but a man is often stronger and the driving force. I think women like to feel that they have at least a little control or autonomy over what happens in bed.

Ok so an example with Ruth and Boaz. Ruth uncovered Boaz (in the Bible, uncovering is a euphemism) and then he felt he had to marry her, to preserve her dignity and not have everyone think she was a slut. Because he liked her too. But he wanted to know if this was genuine love, and whether he was even worthy because he asked first if anyone else wanted her.

Ok this is my opinion and a little of my interpretation of the famous Bible story. I am no means an expert on marital affairs. We don't know if Ruth and Boaz stayed married or went through difficult times, But I would imagine that in the end, it was mutual and Boaz certainly respected Ruth.

Oh my goodness I have heard that excuse too 'men are visual' to justify pornography. Oh puh-lease. Have not people heard of the phrase 'love is blind' or that God looks not on appearance but on the heart.

Of course its important to look nice and its very attractive to be pleasing to the eye, everyone loves eye candy. But we all know too much candy is not good for you.

Correcting you yet again, from John 4:18 ~
"The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband.”

i think some single people have just given up regardless of whos doing the chasing.
It can be the same with job hunting.
The number of times people apply! The jobs just aren't there. Or there are ones that are underpaid or not worth doing.
Its nice to be recruited (or head-hunted) but going for the interview only to find the job isn't what you wanted or had in mind or they didn't like you after going through that nerve-wracking process can be soul-destroying. You need to earn a living!

Welfare can be a bit of relief in that sense. Stay home. Look after your parents. Be an old maid. Its not the end of the world.

You don't need to correct me Magenta.
Sixth as in sixth man (including husbands) she is living with.
Who died and made you God? Honestly.

You have a very narrow interpretation of scripture.

I believe what Jesus said. Yes, it is called the narrow way. Broad is the road to destruction.

I am sorry you do not believe Jesus, or the Bible. You do need correction, though you detest it.

Pharisees were always 'correcting' Jesus. They mistook the letter and didn't understand the spirit.

It is very irritating. But no matter, I can just ignore someone like that. And you can ignore me too if you don't agree. Is there still an ignore button?!

Magenta, stop it.
I am not headed for destruction. I do not detest 'correction' it's clear you simply detest ME.

You project all your insecurity on people who don't interpret the way YOU interpret the Bible. Again, with a few verses out of context.

Jesus said that about people who didn't follow him or believe what He said was true.

Jesus also corrected the pharisees, but you reject what Jesus said over your own opinion... just like they did.

Back to topic...the important thing about the woman at the well wasn't that she had five husbands and was living with her sixth man who wasn't her husband. It was part of her sad story, it's true.
It's that she saw that Jesus was the Messiah. I.e the Christ. He saw all that she ever did. And didn't judge her harshly for it.

Jesus was prepared to love her as he loved everyone by treating them with compassion and kindness and forgiveness.

I love this story because it shows there is hope for everyone no matter how dire their circumstances are. You are seen by God. He knows your every weakness. He wants to keep you from destruction. He will guide you to the right path. If that path involves marriage or even if it doesn't, He will see it through.

If chasing is going to happen, them the women who wants to be chased needs to clearly communicate somehow that they are interested in being chased, otherwise they are just communicating that they are not interested, especially when it can be considered to be harassment for men to chase after women who do not want to be chased. So if a woman is interested in a man, then she absolutely should take the risk of making it crystal clear that she is interested in a relationship, and if she wants to be chased, then she can leave the ball in his house to pursue a deeper relationship with her. However, being chased is not completely one-sided. If the man is initiating all of the communication and does all the planning for the dates, then the woman is communicating that she is not that interested in the relationship and it would better to find a different woman who is interested. I think that most men appreciate it when women show some initiative in this regard and make it clear what they want.
