I looked up the word "normal" this morning and found these synonyms:

average, common, commonplace, cut-and-dried (also cut-and-dry), everyday, garden-variety, ordinary, prosaic, routine, run-of-the-mill, standard, standard-issue, unexceptional, unremarkable, usual, workaday

That doesn't sound like the sort of relationship anyone would want, so why do people keep telling me that I need a "normal" relationship? Ugh.... What's a normal relationship anyway?

I want something abnormal. :)

I can only speak for myself on this, but i know i want a "normal" relationship. I dont like unexpected, never know what your gonna get or whats gonna happen next kinda thing. I like predictable, everyday, ordinary type of stuff. Thats not for everyone though.

When you say abnormal jullianna what do you mean??

Life is too diverse. It neither one nor the other.
The phenomenon is for something to abnormal is has to interfere with normal
therefore if you are normally abnormal; it becomes your normal

OK. it sounds like psycho babble; but I hope you get my point lol

Of course most people would define a "normal" marriage as the house with the picket fence, the family dog, 2.2 kids etc. Marriage defined by possessions rather than relationship. Personally I want an extra ordinary marriage since today's "normal" marriages end in divorce and heartbreak. I want a marriage as defined by scripture which, in my opinion, based on observation cannot help but be extra ordinary.

Yeah, predictable with Christian seasoning is my cup-of-tea.

By the world's guidelines, "normal" relationship is pretty much how that dictionary put it: an ordinary, garden variety.

"But you are a CHOSEN race, a royal priesthood, A HOLY NATION, a people FOR GOD'S OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." (1 Peter 2)

Therefore, our relationship with one another is to parallel our relationship with God, and that is already sweet in God's sight. :)

I think that a "normal" relationship between 2 christian ppl is a very different thing than a "normal" relationship between 2 non christian ppl so i think it depends on who told you that.....

I was just thinking that if normal is the same as run of the mill/unexceptional/unremarkable I'm wondering how it would stand the test of time, you know? I don't want to marry someone who doesn't stand out in the crowd, especially in the areas of character, maturity, compassion....and I would very much like to be someone who would stand out to whomever he is as well.

I don't need adrenaline by IV or anything, but I do need challenge. I think it helps us learn and grow. I want to be with someone who needs that too. I certainly don't want to discount the benefits of security and dependability, but I've always tended to trust the Lord in those areas, and He's never failed me.

Most of the time this causes me to think I'd be better off remaining single :)

I never thought normal would sound so ...blaaah. I think I prefer abnormal too...or supernatural, or alien, whatever you may call it haha.

Well it's all relative, in a world where standards are so low a normal relationship would seem mediocre.

I don't concern myself with such defintions, OnceFallen is right, a true Christian marriage will be extraordinary until society moves a good way forward in what it expects of itself.

But I also agree with Nod, sadly people associate normal, whether through the dictionary or not as somehow boring and not worth having for it's repetitive nature.
I often wonder what's wrong with that?, a life filled with drama and days ever changing may appeal to the adrenaline junkie somehwere inside us but in the end we all want constants, each person may want that constant to be something different but they would all use the word 'normal' to descirbe it.

I guess if we bottomline it, what is normal for one person may not be normal for another. As Matthew said, I suppose when people kept using the word "normal" I was looking at the marriages around me, and normal wasn't very appealing. So I looked it up to see what it really meant. :)

When I talk about challenges, I don't necessarily mean a thrill a minute. :) I mean that I want to be with someone who is going to hold me accountable, learn with me, grow with me. I don't want to just play house. I want something more intimate and longlasting than that.

Since I'm getting older, I definitely want a bit of an abnormal marriage... One that hopefully involves a lot of travel, exploring new places and hobbies, as well as ministry and volunteer work.

The world says that in order to find out what's out there... you have to hook up with as many people as possible... One path, many different people.

I've always wanted to connect with one person... and THEN go have as many adventures as possible. One person, many different experiences... with that one person. I always thought it would be cool to have some kind of cabinet/display case in our house with little souvenirs of every place/activity we decided to explore or got to see. "The Cabinet O' Conquests." :D
