A
I was reading and listening to some sermons and they talked about the abyss and have alot of various meanings and Bible references.
I heard the Abyss refers to the sea sometimes because they believed it was bottomless and that the sea was fulled of unclean beings and that is why in Revelations it talks about a world with no sea.
Anyways I wanted to see what your thoughts on the matter was. i'll see if I can find the articles and sermons I was listening to on the matter and post them when I get a chance, but here are the Bible verses cited:
Luke 8:30-32
New King James Version (NKJV)
30 Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?”
And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him. 31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them.
Romans 10:6-10
New King James Version (NKJV)
6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’”[a] (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “‘Who will descend into the abyss?’”[b] (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[c](that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
